Download or read book Pervasive Prevention written by Tamar Pitch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: `The Prevention Society' is a definition that can otherwise be summarized as: the information society, the risk society, the surveillance society or the insecure society. This book shows the connections and differences between these explanations, whilst providing a gender reading of the ways in which social control manifests itself through precautionary measures. Today’s diffuse and pervasive prevention imperative symbolizes both a self-defining doctrine and the justification for a means of repression, segregation, and exclusion. From bodies to daily life and preventative war, Pervasive Prevention investigates the effects of this imperative for social control, its connection with neo-liberal hegemonic ideology, and the centrality in its dealings with women and the feminine.

Book La ricerca tra innovazione creativit e progetto

Download or read book La ricerca tra innovazione creativit e progetto written by Roberto Bolici and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the current socio-cultural scenario, the implementation of the university reform aimed at boosting third-level education calls for meditation within the discipline of Architectural Technology (ICAR 12). This review must address the research topics and academic profiles of PhD courses in the Technological Area, also in terms of fostering actions consistent with European strategic lines for the promotion of a knowledge society. Research, innovation, creativity and design are the keywords of this scenario that PhD students and lecturers must bear in mind when considering three fields of study: environmental design and landscape, building production and construction and works and services strategic for the community. This book "Research among innovation, creativity and design" develops the topics addressed during the VII OSDOTTA workshop (the network of PhD courses in the field of Architectural Technology) held at the Mantua campus of Milan Polytechnic on 15th-16th-17th September 2011.

Book Criminal Markets and Mafia Proceeds

Download or read book Criminal Markets and Mafia Proceeds written by Ernesto Savona and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-22 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book estimates the proceeds of crime and mafia revenues for different criminal markets such as sexual exploitation, drugs, illicit cigarettes, loan sharking, extortion racketeering, counterfeiting, illicit firearms, illegal gambling and illicit waste management. It is the first time that scholars have adopted detailed methodologies to ensure the highest reliability and validity of the estimation. Overall, estimated proceeds of crime amount to € 22.8 billion: 1.5% of the Italian GDP. Of this, up to € 10.7 billion (0.7 of the GDP) may be attributable to the Italian mafias. These figures are considerably lower than the ones most frequently circulated on the news, without any details about their methodology, which were defined by a UN study as "gross overestimates". Far from underestimating criminal revenues, the results of this study bring the issue of the proceeds of crime to an empirically-based debate, providing support for improved future estimates and more effective policies. The volume’s contributions were inspired by a project awarded by the Italian Ministry of Interior to Transcrime, which produced the first report on mafia investments (www.investimentioc.it). This book was originally published as a special issue of Global Crime.

Book Drafting Italy

    Book Details:
  • Author : Marco Rovinello
  • Publisher : Taylor & Francis
  • Release : 2023-05-23
  • ISBN : 1000878406
  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book Drafting Italy written by Marco Rovinello and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-05-23 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive history of conscription and the military in Italy from the Restoration to the eve of WWI. The comparative and transnational approach enables this work to compare and contrast the Italian experience with that of many other countries in the world as well as understand transfers and the adaptive and imitative processes that emerge when conscription and the military are viewed from an Italian perspective. Peacetime and wartime recruitment, military life, culture, justice and civil-military relationships are analysed using a wide range of sources and an interdisciplinary approach that combines top-down and bottom-up perspectives. This enables the book not only to assess the contribution the military has made to the country in terms of state-building, nation building, modernization, pedagogical and disciplinary models, gender identity and roles, but also to reconsider the standard taxonomies as well as some established evolutionary models of the armies. Moreover, the Italian military is seen as an internally complex world that is incapable of defining its own one-dimensional identity or of imposing any such identity on its members. Consequently, it is an element in the history of a country that is substantially the same as any other such element and thus important in people’s collective and individual lives whether or not they are in uniform. Rather than being an object of study in and of itself, the military becomes a vantage point from which to observe the Italian history in the long 19th century. Therefore, this book can be profitably read by professional military historians and non-specialist readers interested in the military, as well as by all scholars working on Italian pre- and post-unification political, institutional, socio-economic, cultural and gender history.

Book Mental Maps

    Book Details:
  • Author : Janne Holmén
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2021-11-28
  • ISBN : 1000485609
  • Pages : 141 pages

Download or read book Mental Maps written by Janne Holmén and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-28 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of mental maps is used in several disciplines including geography, psychology, history, linguistics, economics, anthropology, political science, and computer game design. However, until now, there has been little communication between these disciplines and methodological schools involved in mental mapping. Mental Maps: Geographical and Historical Perspectives addresses this situation by bringing together scholars from some of the related fields. Ute Schneider examines the development of German geographer Heinrich Schiffers’ mental maps, using his books on Africa from the 1930s to the 1970s. Efrat Ben-Ze’ev and Chloé Yvroux investigate conceptions of Israel and Palestine, particularly the West Bank, held by French and Israeli students. By superimposing large numbers of sketch maps, Clarisse Didelon-Loiseau, Sophie de Ruffray, and Nicolas Lambert identify "soft" and "hard" macro-regions on the mental maps of geography students across the world. Janne Holmén investigates whether the Baltic and the Mediterranean Seas are seen as links or divisions between the countries that line their shores, according to the mental maps of high school seniors. Similarly, Dario Musolino maps regional preferences of Italian entrepreneurs. Finally, Lars-Erik Edlund offers an essayistic account of mental mapping, based on memories of maps in his own family. This edited volume book uses printed maps, survey data and hand drawn maps as sources, contributing to the study of human perception of space from the perspectives of different disciplines. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Cultural Geography.

Book Mafia type Organisations and Extortion in Italy

Download or read book Mafia type Organisations and Extortion in Italy written by Giacomo Di Gennaro and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-09-05 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mafia-type organizations generate several distorting effects on the economy. In Italy their presence is endemic, and not only in Southern regions such as Sicily, Campania or Calabria. Such organizations endure the fierce and continuous pressure exerted by Italian anti-mafia policy, maybe the most articulate and effective such policy in the world. Nevertheless, they have survived by submerging, transforming, and relocating their operations. The analysis of the different Mafias of today benefits from a huge amount of empirical data produced by investigators. This allows us to outline more reliable indexes of the penetration of Mafiosi in given territories, as well as to estimate the size of their activities in a transparent and empirically testable way. The contributions gathered in this book stem from the application of an innovative methodology originally introduced by the Fondazione Rocco Chinnici, and they enlarge our understanding of such a complex and dynamic phenomenon. After the presentation of the approach, the chapters are devoted to the Camorra's present situation, to an estimate of the size of extortion, to a comparison between Cosa Nostra and Camorra, to the analysis of wiretapped conversations and, finally, to the delocalization of Mafias and the perspectives of a European anti-mafia policy. This book was originally published as a special issue of Global Crime.
