Book Entrepreneurship and Sustainability

Download or read book Entrepreneurship and Sustainability written by Paul W. Thurman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Entrepreneurship and Sustainability the editors and contributors challenge the notion that not-for-profit social entrepreneurship is the only sort that can lead to the alleviation of poverty. Entrepreneurship for profit is not just about the entrepreneur doing well. Entrepreneurs worldwide are leading successful for-profit ventures which contribute to poverty alleviation in their communities. With the challenge of global poverty before them, entrepreneurs continue to develop innovative, business-oriented ventures that deliver promising solutions to this complex and urgent agenda. This book explores how to bring commercial investors together with those who are best placed to reach the poorest customers. With case studies from around the World, the focus of the contributions is on the new breed of entrepreneurs who are blending a profit motive with a desire to make a difference in their communities and beyond borders. A number of the contributions here also recognize that whilst much research has been devoted to poverty alleviation in developing countries, this is only part of the story. Studies in this volume also focus upon enterprise solutions to poverty in pockets of significant deprivation in high-income countries, such as the Appalachia region of the US, in parts of Europe, and the richer Asian countries. Much has been written about the achievements of socially orientated non-profit microfinance institutions. This valuable, academically rigorous but accessible book will help academics, policy makers, and business people consider what the next generation of more commercially orientated banks for the 'bottom billion' might look like.

Book Government regulation on business management in Nigeria

Download or read book Government regulation on business management in Nigeria written by Abayomi Adekunle and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2017-09-20 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project Report from the year 2017 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, , course: Public Administration, language: English, abstract: There are various aims behind the course of this study. The first objective is to highlight the reasons for government regulation on business management in Nigeria. Then, the study examines the role of government regulation in the development of business management in Nigeria and it analyzes the strategies used by government in regulating business management in Nigeria. The last objective is to examine the effects of government regulation on business management in Nigeria. A government formulates many rules and regulations that guide businesses. Businesses will normally change the way they operate according to the influence these rules and regulations have on the competitiveness and profitability of businesses. Business owners must comply with the regulations established by Federal, State and Local Government. Small business is facing many challenges nowadays, none of which are more forbidding than a burden. Federal government regulations and mandates threaten investment and stifle job growths. When the government imposes regulations on small businesses that drive up the cost of doing business, it’s like imposing a tax. A tax is a compulsory contribution to the state revenue which the government determines according to the workers’ income and business profit and which is also added to the cost of some goods, services and transactions. A government can implement a policy that can change the social behavior in the business environment. For instance, the existence of the Nigeria Breweries Plc operation under the company law regulating the activities of business enterprises is due to the fact that the following itemized law acts have been regulating the activities of this company with the motive of enhancing the social, political and economic growth and development of the country. Some of the agencies responsible for business regulations are the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), the Anti-Counterfeiting Collaboration (ACC), the Music Regulation of Nigeria (MRN) etc. Therefore, it is clear that the role of a government is to protect and represent the interest of the society and the citizenry in which business operates. It can be further said that a government through regulations protects consumers from abuse and ensures efficiency in the use of resources and promotes equitable distribution of income.

Book The 100 Startup

Download or read book The 100 Startup written by Chris Guillebeau and published by Currency. This book was released on 2012-05-08 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lead a life of adventure, meaning and purpose—and earn a good living. “Thoughtful, funny, and compulsively readable, this guide shows how ordinary people can build solid livings, with independence and purpose, on their own terms.”—Gretchen Rubin, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller The Happiness Project Still in his early thirties, Chris Guillebeau completed a tour of every country on earth and yet he’s never held a “real job” or earned a regular paycheck. Rather, he has a special genius for turning ideas into income, and he uses what he earns both to support his life of adventure and to give back. Chris identified 1,500 individuals who have built businesses earning $50,000 or more from a modest investment (in many cases, $100 or less), and focused on the 50 most intriguing case studies. In nearly all cases, people with no special skills discovered aspects of their personal passions that could be monetized, and were able to restructure their lives in ways that gave them greater freedom and fulfillment. Here, finally, distilled into one easy-to-use guide, are the most valuable lessons from those who’ve learned how to turn what they do into a gateway to self-fulfillment. It’s all about finding the intersection between your “expertise”—even if you don’t consider it such—and what other people will pay for. You don’t need an MBA, a business plan or even employees. All you need is a product or service that springs from what you love to do anyway, people willing to pay, and a way to get paid. Not content to talk in generalities, Chris tells you exactly how many dollars his group of unexpected entrepreneurs required to get their projects up and running; what these individuals did in the first weeks and months to generate significant cash; some of the key mistakes they made along the way, and the crucial insights that made the business stick. Among Chris’s key principles: If you’re good at one thing, you’re probably good at something else; never teach a man to fish—sell him the fish instead; and in the battle between planning and action, action wins. In ancient times, people who were dissatisfied with their lives dreamed of finding magic lamps, buried treasure, or streets paved with gold. Today, we know that it’s up to us to change our lives. And the best part is, if we change our own life, we can help others change theirs. This remarkable book will start you on your way.

Book Going Global on a Dime

Download or read book Going Global on a Dime written by Lauri Elliott and published by Conceptualee Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you looking for alternative streams of revenue for your business, low-hanging-fruit opportunities, and better profit margins? According to McKinsey, a dozen or so emerging economies will collectively have an annual GDP of more than 20 trillion USD by 2020, exceeding that of the United States. In 2015, developing economies will account for more than half of the world's annual GDP. And the largest consumer markets of the next generation can be found in emerging markets like China, India, and Africa. With figures like these, "going global," particularly to emerging markets can present the opportunities for which you are looking? As markets in developed countries stagnate, slow, dwindle, or reach saturation, companies are looking for new horizons to sustain them in the next generation economy. This is no less true for entrepreneurs and SMEs. While going global has become a business imperative and entrepreneurs and SMEs look for new opportunities like larger firms, questions arise around how? How do we go global? How do we tap into markets far away with limited resources? How will going global make a difference? How long should we wait before going global?Going Global on a Dime answers the "how" of going global from both a strategic and practical approach, focusing on new and existing firms considering or just starting the going global process. It re-wires the framework for going global so firms can navigate the course dynamically while minimizing costs, managing and maximizing cash flow and return on investment, streamlining processes, and keeping the "small" firm ready to take advantage of profitable opportunities.

Book Entrepreneurial Ecosystem

Download or read book Entrepreneurial Ecosystem written by Mathew J Manimala and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-09 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic development is a priority for all nation-states, whether developing or developed. In recent times, a few among the developing nations – often referred to as the emerging economies – have attracted the world’s attention because of their fast pace of economic growth. While the similarities among these nations (for example the BRICS) in the pattern of their economic growth are highlighted and discussed, the differences are often glossed over. This book, therefore, attempts to present the diverse ways in which entrepreneurship is facilitated in emerging economies, through a compilation of research papers from six different countries (India, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Nigeria and New Zealand) belonging to the class of emerging economies. The papers included in this book cover a variety of topics related to the creation and management of an entrepreneurial ecosystem, such as intercultural interactions, IPR issues, government policies for SMEs, social entrepreneurship, opportunity identification, green entrepreneurship, employee entrepreneurship, symbiotic ventures and social capital, social fluidity mapping for reducing failure stigma, green awareness in the corporate world and among entrepreneurs, venture capital for growth, immigrant entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial success and life satisfaction, among others. The contributions are supported by an introductory chapter that provides an integrative framework by unifying the diverse patterns of economic development in the different countries under various institutional inadequacies as a process of “muddling-through to development”, necessitated by the non-systematic development of the ecosystem for new venture creation. This book is indeed a must-read for those interested in understanding the process of entrepreneurship and economic development in emerging economies.
