Book The Profitability Test

Download or read book The Profitability Test written by Harborne W. Stuart, Jr. and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new way to determine whether a business strategy will lead to profitability. This book teaches readers to understand profitability in a systematic way, equipping them to provide logically coherent answers to questions about whether a new venture will be profitable, if changes in business strategy will generate an increase in profits, or if “staying the course” will result in continued profitability. Unlike books by business gurus that offer one-size-fits-all advice, this book starts from the premise that you, the reader, are in the best position to make difficult judgments about your business. It shows how to turn these judgments into coherent analysis, presenting state-of-the art theory for understanding business strategy from an economic perspective. The basic building block is the value that is created when the buyer and seller make a deal. In simple terms, if a company is to be profitable, it must make a favorable deal with each and every customer. After setting out key principles and applying them to market situations, the book teaches readers to apply the analysis to their own businesses—in other words, to create their own business game, the main ingredients of which are people and the value that they can create. It addresses how to integrate strategic moves into the book's theory of value creation and competition in order to address the sustainability of a company's profits, the effectiveness of the “invisible hand,” and restrictions to competition. Optional appendixes explain the relevant mathematics.

Book FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS

Download or read book FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS written by DAVID KISSI and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-01-12 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much can be learnt about a firm from a careful examination of its financial statements. Financial statements provide a summarized view of the financial position and operations of a firm. These can be useful indicators or measures to appraise the financial health of an organization and its profitability, financial stability (long term and short term), financial management and overall efficiency of the business. Interest of various related groups such as managers, shareholders, creditors, and tax authorities is affected by the financial performance of a firm. Thus, the analysis of financial performance is of great importance to these parties. This study provides a summary of analysis of financial performance for five financial years of IIL, extending from 1999-2000 to 2003-2004 for its various investors and stakeholders to take their investment decisions.

Book Unified Financial Analysis

Download or read book Unified Financial Analysis written by Willi Brammertz and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-11-04 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unified Financial Analysis arrives at the right time, in the midst of the current financial crisis where the call for better and more efficient financial control cannot be overstated. The book argues that from a technical perspective, there is no need for more, but for better and more efficiently organized information. The title demonstrates that it is possible with a single but well organized set of information and algorithms to derive all types of financial analysis. This reaches far beyond classical risk and return or profitability management, spanning all risk categories, all valuation techniques (local GAAP, IFRS, full mark-to-market and so on) and static, historic and dynamic analysis, just to name the most important dimensions. The dedication of a complete section to dynamic analysis, which is based on a going concern view, is unique, contrasting with the static, liquidation-based view prevalent today in banks. The commonly applied arbitrage-free paradigm, which is too narrow, is expanded to real world market models. The title starts with a brief history of the evolution of financial analysis to create the current industry structure, with the organisation of many banks following a strict silo structure, and finishes with suggestions for the way forward from the current financial turmoil. Throughout the book, the authors advocate the adoption of a 'unified financial language' that could also be the basis for a new regulatory approach. They argue that such a language is indispensable, if the next regulatory wave – which is surely to come – should not end in an expensive regulatory chaos. Unified Financial Analysis will be of value to CEOs and CFOs in banking and insurance, risk and asset and liability managers, regulators and compliance officers, students of Finance or Economics, or anyone with a stake in the finance industry.
