Book Shared Capitalism at Work

Download or read book Shared Capitalism at Work written by Douglas L. Kruse and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2010-06-15 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The historical relationship between capital and labor has evolved in the past few decades. One particularly noteworthy development is the rise of shared capitalism, a system in which workers have become partial owners of their firms and thus, in effect, both employees and stockholders. Profit sharing arrangements and gain-sharing bonuses, which tie compensation directly to a firm’s performance, also reflect this new attitude toward labor. Shared Capitalism at Work analyzes the effects of this trend on workers and firms. The contributors focus on four main areas: the fraction of firms that participate in shared capitalism programs in the United States and abroad, the factors that enable these firms to overcome classic free rider and risk problems, the effect of shared capitalism on firm performance, and the impact of shared capitalism on worker well-being. This volume provides essential studies for understanding the increasingly important role of shared capitalism in the modern workplace.

Book Productivity Gain Sharing Plus

Download or read book Productivity Gain Sharing Plus written by Paul Carey and published by Paul Carey. This book was released on 2023-06-14 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for consultants, internal and external, plus senior executives, interested in designing and implementing gain sharing plans that work. Well-designed gain sharing, developed through participative means, is a glue that binds and integrates teams into a single cohesive whole. This book lays out the challenges of using the framework of gain sharing and its mechanisms for unleashing the productive and creative power of a big team in an organisation (the organisation can still be a small one), where the big team is the sum of all parts of the organisation, or even the organisation extended to its suppliers and customers. It's often difficult to bring all the teams, departments, and units together to work as a cohesive whole. How to go about tackling this challenge? And how to enhance the original philosophy of gain sharing? This methodology can make an accomplished addition to your kit of tools.

Book Do Workers Gain by Sharing

Download or read book Do Workers Gain by Sharing written by Douglas Kruse and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines how shared capitalism compensation systems - those that link employee pay to company performance - affect diverse employee outcomes. It uses two data sets: the national GSS survey that provides a broad representative view of the extent of the programs; and the NBER Shared Capitalism Project surveys of workers in 14 companies that use shared capitalism programs extensively. We find that greater involvement in the programs is generally linked to greater participation in decisions, higher quality supervision and treatment of employees, more training, higher pay and benefits, greater job security, and higher job satisfaction. We also find positive interactions of shared capitalism with high-performance policies in predicting participation in decisions and overall job satisfaction, and negative interactions of shared capitalism with close supervision in affecting almost all of the outcomes. Overall the results support the idea that workers can gain by sharing, but whether this happens is contingent on other workplace policies.

Book Gainsharing and Goalsharing

Download or read book Gainsharing and Goalsharing written by Kenneth Mericle and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2004-03-30 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gainsharing and goalsharing, if carefully designed and administered, have great potential as compensation systems that align pay with the broader strategic objectives of the organization. To be successful over the long term, gainsharing and goalsharing require periodic review and adjustment to changing business conditions and continuing emphasis on mobilizing and involving employees. The authors share important insights from recent research (including two large-scale surveys of their own) on factors related to success and failure, and they provide highly useful information for anyone seeking to design and implement a gainsharing or goalsharing program, including managers, human resource professionals, and union officers. Scanlon, Modified Scanlon, Rucker, Improshare, and goalsharing plans are defined as group-based contingent compensation schemes that are often combined with an employee involvement component. Gainsharing programs have been adopted at an accelerating rate by American corporations in the last decade. Approximately 40% of Fortune 1,000 firms reported the use of gainsharing in the 1990s, and there is little doubt that more programs exist than ever before. According to most evaluations, gainsharing and goalsharing are considered to be particularly potent among the various types of recent innovative human resource programs. By taking a process-based approach that presents a step-by-step guide to the implementation of gainsharing from design to administration and long-term maintenance, this book provides readers with practical and hands-on advice and guidance on gainsharing and goalsharing.
