Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today the problem of the relation of the Christian Church to the world stands front and center on the stage of world mission. As never before, the call goes out to the Church to help people all over the world lead a truly human life as the children of God. The Church's ministry in the world must therefore include ministry to human economic needs. In this nationalistic age, moreover, each new church must find its own particular economic structure, not adopt one that is dictated by the tradition of other countries. Western mission leaders and laity who demand that churches in the Third World follow the Western Churches' collection-plate economy may be unaware of the rich diversity of practice in their own history represented by such missionary pioneers as the Moravians and the Basel Mission Trading Company. Danker's informative book is a study of those two groups, concentrating particularly on the economic structures they created to support their mission work. The author hopes that it will Òhelp free Christians on mission frontiers on all six continents to find the forms that will carry out the tentmaking mission of the Church in the marketplace today.Ó Profit for the Lord will appeal to those interested in church history and government as well as those involved in missions.

Book For God and Profit

Download or read book For God and Profit written by Samuel Gregg and published by Herder & Herder. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Christianity's very beginning, it has had a difficult relationship with the world of money. Through developing sophisticated understandings of the nature and wealth-creating capacity of capital, Christian theologians, philosophers, and financiers exerted considerable influence upon the emergence and development of the international financial systems that helped unleash a revolution in the way the world thinks about and uses capital. In For God and Profit, Samuel Gregg underscores the different ways in which Christians have helped to develop the financial and banking systems that have helped millions escape poverty for hundreds of years. But he also provides a critical lens through which to assess the workings--and failures--of modern finance and banking. Far from being doomed to producing economic instability and periodic financial crises, Gregg illustrates that how Christian faith and reason can shape financial practices and banking institutions in ways that restore integrity to our troubled financial systems.

Book God Loves Profit

    Book Details:
  • Author : Joe Dardano
  • Publisher : Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
  • Release : 2022-09-24

  • Pages : 67 pages

Download or read book God Loves Profit written by Joe Dardano and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-09-24 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God Loves Profit contains numerous stories from the Bible that will edify Christians, and this same material will draw non-Christian readers in as Scripture invariably acts as a magnate for people who are searching for truth, meaning, and purpose. In addition, there are numerous real-life stories of teaching and missionary experiences that offer concrete examples of God's abundance and universal love for us. God Loves Profit follows the tradition of Christian personal development and inner growth. In the nineteenth century, writers in personal development were primarily from the New Thought movement. These works, too numerous to mention, often used the Bible to show believers the power of unlimited potential within us and the reality of a God who provides abundantly. In the 1950s the works of Earl Nightingale and Norman Vincent Peale emerged. In 2000, The Prayer of Jabez was published. Although personal development and success are intrinsically a Christian-rooted movement, contemporary authors (i.e., Anthony Robbins, Wayne Dyer, etc.) approach the issues for a New Age or secular viewpoint. God Loves Profit is a book for personal success and advancement from a biblical perspective. The book addresses the abundance that God provides and that he wants us to grow in faith. 2

Book excerpt: A guided tour through the fascinating history of Catholic religious orders From their monastic prehistory in the Egyptian desert through their political heyday in Medieval and Renaissance Europe to their present-day work of education, human care, and the pursuit of social justice, the Catholic religious orders have been a driving force in Western civilization. In The Lord as Their Portion Elizabeth Rapley paints a broad portrait of the full spectrum of religious orders spanning the vast canvas of their history. Rapley shows how religious orders led the way in learning and inventiveness throughout the early periods of Western civilization. She explores how religious orders contributed to Western politics and the global spread of Christianity. She examines the ways in which religious orders have championed the poor, marginalized, and disenfranchised throughout history and gives attention the ongoing work of religious orders today. More than simply highlighting the sweeping progress of monasticism s past and present, however, Rapley also takes time to share, in a clear and engaging fashion, the fascinating stories of many of the men and women who chose to take the Lord as their portion and whose piety, devotion, and energetic pursuit of a holy life profoundly shaped the course of history.

Book excerpt: The vast majority of Americans are broke. Regrettably, that includes church members. Many pretend to be wealthy, but most are living paycheck to paycheck and have nothing saved for retirement. For most families, college without a heavy debt burden is, at best, a pipe dream. If that describes you, smile—I have good news for you! God has an excellent financial plan for you and your family. The Profit Dare is a scriptural journey. In it, eight pillars of prosperity are revealed for winning at wealth without losing your soul. God, through these pillars, utterly transformed Tim’s life. His story is shared with humility, gravity, candor, and a pinch of humor. God is no respecter of persons. When these pillars are put into play, lives are radically transformed!

Book The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in South Africa

Download or read book The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in South Africa written by Ilana van Wyk and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG), a church of Brazilian origin, has been enormously successful in establishing branches and attracting followers in post-apartheid South Africa. Unlike other Pentecostal Charismatic Churches (PCC), the UCKG insists that relationships with God be devoid of 'emotions', that socialisation between members be kept to a minimum and that charity and fellowship are 'useless' in materialising God's blessings. Instead, the UCKG urges members to sacrifice large sums of money to God for delivering wealth, health, social harmony and happiness. While outsiders condemn these rituals as empty or manipulative, this book shows that they are locally meaningful, demand sincerity to work, have limits and are informed by local ideas about human bodies, agency and ontological balance. As an ethnography of people rather than of institutions, this book offers fresh insights into the mass PCC movement that has swept across Africa since the early 1990s.

Book Christ shall profit you nothing The Church of God

Download or read book Christ shall profit you nothing The Church of God written by Moreno Dal Bello and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-04-11 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A false gospel is not to be judged so when its errors reach a certain point, but in the fact that it contains any error at all! Doctrinal error is indicative of a false gospel. One of the clearest examples of how little it takes to besmirch God's Gospel and change it into a lie is shown by Paul in his letter to the Galatians. "Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, CHRIST SHALL PROFIT YOU NOTHING" (Gal. 5:2). ...If a person turns to, and relies upon, anything they have done in order to get saved and/or remain saved then Christ shall profit them nothing. Christ cannot be called on as Savior by these people for they do not fully trust in Him. ...those who claim that whatever it is they must do is only possible because of God's bestowing the grace which enables them to do it, are abiders in a false gospel, a gospel which is not about grace but may be rightly termed a gospel of DIS-GRACE!!
