This book was released on 2012-04-25 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across the globe, vocational education and training is characterised by a number of over-arching trends, including the increasing use of technology, the growing importance of information and communications systems, and changes to national demographics. At the interface between the education and training system and the world of work, VET faces the challenge of tackling these changes, of making a constructive contribution to solving the problems posed by the transition from education to employment, and of ensuring that the next generation has the skills it – and the economy – needs. This volume comprises thirty individual contributions that together add up to a comprehensive overview of the current situation in vocational education and training, its strengths and weaknesses, and its prospects. VET experts from Canada, the USA, India, China, Japan and Korea, as well as from a number of European countries, focus on their national context and how it fits in to the bigger picture. The contributions combine theoretical discussions from various strands of VET research with evidence from country case studies and examples from current practice.

Download or read book Professional Identity Development through Incidental Learning written by Amanda Turner and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-16 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early 1990s there has been a persistent drive towards professionalising the education sector, with a particular focus on those responsible for teaching the post-fourteen age group. This shift towards recognition of the sector in terms of the professionals who teach within it has led to constant, repetitive revision of teaching standards, the regulation and subsequent de-regulation of the teaching qualifications and the introduction of professional bodies. This book aims to explore the way that professional identity develops for trainee teachers, in the FE and Skills sector, with a particular emphasis on the role that incidental learning has in this development. The author argues for a more holistic approach to the development of professionalism through these informal learning experiences, as opposed to a criteria based approach.
Download or read book Teacher Professional Learning in International Education written by Ly Thi Tran and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-01 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the impact of internationalization, student mobility and transnational workforce mobility on the changing nature of teacher work and teacher professional learning in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. Derived from a three-year project funded by the Australian Research Council across more than 30 VET and HE institutions, this is the first book that explores teacher professional learning in international education. The authors address how teachers position their professional responsibilities and learning in relation to the institutional structure, internationalization agenda and policy fields in which their profession is embedded by drawing on both empirical evidence and key concepts and models of teacher professional learning. This pioneering text provides international education and VET policy makers, practitioners, educators and researchers with unique insights and practical implications for enhancing teacher professional learning and capabilities in international education.

Download or read book Integrative Learning of Theory and Practice written by Mariana Orozco and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-14 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the questions of what constitutes the integrative learning of theory and practice (ILTP), and how this learning progresses over time - these are important questions that have been overlooked to date. It introduces a new way of looking at the theory-practice integration and presents the conceptual and empirical research that has led to such a view. The conceptualisation of the ILTP and the description of the phenomenon of integration draw on psychological aspects of epistemological beliefs in TVET, and on philosophical aspects of social reasoning. In this inferentialist, non-dualistic epistemological perspective, theory and practice are distinguished in terms of their use in reasoning, rather than as intrinsically different forms of knowledge. In particular, the integrative learning is presented in terms of qualitative changes in chains of reasoning that connect theoretical and practical considerations. This work represents a contribution to further educational research, as it advances a novel operationalisation of the inferentialist framework. Finally, this work contributes to educational practice, as it offers evidence-based guidelines for practitioners concerned with instructional design in T-VET. The reported empirical investigations involved in-depth qualitative research methods and were conducted at a micro-level of instruction in alternating school-based and work-based programmes, in the field of Chemicals Processing Technology (CPT).
