Book Technical Efficiency Analysis of Wheat Farmers in Punjab Pakistan

Download or read book Technical Efficiency Analysis of Wheat Farmers in Punjab Pakistan written by Abid Hussain and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-01-16 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technical efficiency in wheat production across major cropping zones of the Punjab (Pakistan) through stochastic frontier production function with Cobb-Douglas specification has been analyzed. The mean technical efficiency of wheat production was 78.2, 82.8, 80.2 and 50.1 percent in the mixed, cotton-wheat, rice-wheat and rain-fed zones, respectively. The results signify that there is a scope to increase wheat productivity through technical efficiency improvements under existing conditions of input use and technology. In the irrigated zones, number of ploughings for land preparation, use of chemical fertilizers and number of irrigation applications contributed positively to the crop production. The inefficiency in wheat production was due to sowing of poor quality produce as seed year after year, wheat crop acreage at the farms in irrigated zones and due to incidences of technical and financial problems in both irrigated as well as rain-fed zones. While, operational farm size and farmers' contact with extension agents in the irrigated cropping zones and education level of the farmers in the rain-fed zone were technical inefficiency decreasing farmer characteristics.

Book Resource Use Efficiency In Indian Agriculture

Download or read book Resource Use Efficiency In Indian Agriculture written by D.P. Takale and published by Serials Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture Is The Largest Sector In Indian Economy. Indian Economy Have To Depend Upon The Development Of Agriculture For Their Economic Development In Order To Meet The Demand For Foodgrains And Raw Materials Of Agro-Base Industries. The Development Of Agricultural Sector Has Direct Impact On The Level Of Farm Income. Therefore, It Is Necessary To Increase Agricultural Production. Agricultural Production Can Be Increased With The Help Of Optimum Use Of Resources. This Book Makes An Indepth Study Of Resource-Use Efficiency In Agricultural Sector. The Study Attempt To Examine How Efficiently The Farmers Are Using Their Resources. The Important Problem Of Increasing Agricultural Production In Any Region Is How To Increase Output Per Unit Of Input. In View Of This, It Is Necessary That The Available Resources Should Be Used Economically And Efficiently. This Book Studied The Allocation Of Resources Among The Crops In The Command Area. The Book Will Certainly Prove Beneficial To The Government, Farmers, Teachers, Students And Researchers.

Book Economic Efficiency in Wheat Production Analysis of the Case of Angecha District Southern Ethiopia

Download or read book Economic Efficiency in Wheat Production Analysis of the Case of Angecha District Southern Ethiopia written by Alemayehu Bashe and published by . This book was released on 2023-01-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Study from the year 2023 in the subject Agrarian Studies, course: Agricultural Economics research, language: English, abstract: Production improvement through the use of improved technologies and increasing efficiency of inputs in cereal production in general and wheat production in particular might be an important alternative to settle food security problem in Ethiopia. Wheat is the first cash crop produced in Angecha District, kembata Tambaro zone, with a total area covered of 4567.5ha. But, the efficiency of producers that they could not use available resources on hand was taken as a great attention. So this study was aimed to analyze the levels of technical, allocative and economic efficiencies of wheat producers; and determining factors for inefficiency in farmers' wheat production by using cross sectional data from randomly selected 123 households in 2018/19 production year. The study used both primary and secondary data sources and stochastic production frontier approach was used to estimate the level of efficiencies. Ordinary least square estimation was used to identify factors that affect inefficiencies of sample farmers' in study area. The regression model result indicated that input variables like land and seed were the significant variables to increase the yield of wheat output. 55.63%, 55.47% and 30.85% were the estimated mean values of technical, allocative and economic efficiencies respectively, which indicate the presence of inefficiency in wheat production in the study area. Model result indicated that technical inefficiency positively and significantly affected by sex of the household head, and negatively affected by age, farm experience, land fragmentation, credit access and total livestock unit. Similarly, allocative inefficiency positively and significantly affected by sex and negatively by credit access and total livestock holdings. In addition, economic inefficiency negatively and significantly affected by credit access and tot

Book The Role of Agriculture in Poverty Reduction

Download or read book The Role of Agriculture in Poverty Reduction written by Luc J. Christiaensen and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2006 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relative contribution of a sector to poverty reduction is shown to depend on its direct and indirect growth effects as well as its participation effect. The paper assesses how these effects compare between agriculture and non-agriculture by reviewing the literature and by analyzing cross-country national accounts and poverty data from household surveys. Special attention is given to Sub-Saharan Africa. While the direct growth effect of agriculture on poverty reduction is likely to be smaller than that of non-agriculture (though not because of inherently inferior productivity growth), the indirect growth effect of agriculture (through its linkages with nonagriculture) appears substantial and at least as large as the reverse feedback effect. The poor participate much more in growth in the agricultural sector, especially in low-income countries, resulting in much larger poverty reduction impact. Together, these findings support the overall premise that enhancing agricultural productivity is the critical entry-point in designing effective poverty reduction strategies, including in Sub-Saharan Africa. Yet, to maximize the poverty reducing effects, the right agricultural technology and investments must be pursued, underscoring the need for much more country specific analysis of the structure and institutional organization of the rural economy in designing poverty reduction strategies.

Book Identification of Factors Which Influence the Technical Inefficiency of Indian Farmers

Download or read book Identification of Factors Which Influence the Technical Inefficiency of Indian Farmers written by Tim Coelli and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The agricultural production of Indian farmers is investigated using a stochastic frontier production function which incorporates a model for the technical inefficiency effects. Farm-level data from the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) are used. Variables considered in the model for the inefficiency effects include the age and level of education of the farmers, farm size and the year of observation. The parameters of the stochastic frontier production function are estimated simultaneously with those involved in the model for the inefficiency effects. This approach differs from the usual practice of predicting farm-level inefficiency effects and then regressing these upon various factors in a second-stage of modelling. The results indicate that the above factors do have a significant influence upon the inefficiency effects of farmers in two of the three villages considered.
