Book The International Marketing of Travel and Tourism

Download or read book The International Marketing of Travel and Tourism written by François Vellas and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-01-07 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tourism marketing has long been considered as a branch of traditional marketing. However, in recent years, tourism marketing has gone through fundamental changes: the pursuit of global strategies based on strategic alliances, the breakdown of commercial borders and advances in new technology have all facilitated the commercialisation of tourism products. This book sets out to examine the changes shaping the international marketing of tourism and travel. The book begins in defining the role of international marketing in tourism and describes the strategic marketing process, from analysis and strategy formulation to implementation techniques. It provides the marketing theory for the rest of the text. Part two focuses on specific issues that are currently influencing tourism marketing. As such, it explains how technology is affecting the way tourism firms operate, the impact and influence of environmental awareness, human resource strategy and service quality on tourism marketing. Finally, it presents the strategic responses of each of the sub-sectors - hospitality, air transport, tour operation, travel agency and the tourism destination - to the pressures of the changing tourism industry. The International Marketing of Travel and Tourism is aimed at final year undergraduate and postgraduate students of tourism providing a strategic approach to marketing within this growing sector.

Book Tourism Employment

Download or read book Tourism Employment written by Michael Riley and published by Channel View Publications. This book was released on 2002 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an attempt to understand tourism employment in a holistic way. Using ideas from labour economics, work psychology and industrial sociology the authors look at tourism employment in both its workplace context and its wider economic and social environment and attempt to tell a coherent story. Both behavioural and economic perspectives are used to address questions that are salient to manpower planning, education planning and tourism management. By examining the diversity and commonality within occupations against the background of a dynamic labour market the text develops themes that contribute to our understanding of the behaviour of workers and managers in the industry.

Book Analysis of Senior Management Training Needs in International Hotel Companies A Field Study

Download or read book Analysis of Senior Management Training Needs in International Hotel Companies A Field Study written by Olivier Harnisch and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2007 in the subject Hotel Industry / Catering, grade: "-", London Metropolitan University (Birkbeck College), course: MSc in Organisational Bahaviour, 85 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: A thorough analysis of training needs is an important component of any systematic training strategy. International hotel companies face substantial challenges in terms of human resources development. This situation may lead the assumption that they would therefore apply particular care in the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of their training activities. This study's objectives were to explore whether large hotel companies sufficiently consider organizational, task and person aspects when analyzing their senior management's training needs, and on the other hand, to investigate how systematically they apply the training cycle. The 15 largest international hotel organizations were selected to participate in this qualitative study in which relevant questions were asked to one senior Human Resources Executive of each company via a semi-structured telephone interview. Answers from eleven organizations were obtained. The responses suggest that structured and exhaustive approaches to training needs analysis are the exception rather than the norm. All companies do in some way assess existing training needs. However except for one company, none comprehensively considers all three areas of training needs. The general focus seems to be on persons' needs, and to a lesser degree on the organization's needs and current industry trends. There is a clear preference to rely on performance reviews and individual assessment centre results. These two sources were mentioned by a large majority of respondents. Less often, overall company results in terms of finances, quality and sometimes other balance score card criteria provide an impetus for training activities. This suggests that organizational needs are taken into account. Very li

Book Managing People

Download or read book Managing People written by Michael Riley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2000 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new second edition of 'Managing People' provides a practical approach to applying up-to-the-minute management techniques, and is a vital source of information for professionals in the hotel and catering industry responsible for personnel and training. Riley explores how aspects such as labour cost, utilization, labour market behaviour and pay are inseparable from the skills of people management. In the new edition he extends his ideas on productivity so as to encompass its relationship with functional flexibility. In a similar manner, thinking about motivating people is extended to include modern ideas about commitment. We all loosely refer to peoples' attitude but here he shows the complexity that lies behind them. It is especially of relevance for managers with responsibility for personnel and training, and degree-level students will also find its non-prescriptive, user-friendly approach helpful. Michael Riley has extensive experience in the hotel and tourism industry and communicates in a way that reflects that experience.
