Book Introductory Microeconomics

Download or read book Introductory Microeconomics written by Michael Veseth and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introductory Microeconomics explains the basic principles of microeconomics, producer and consumer choices, resource markets, and government policies. The book describes the economics of exchange, such as the role of economic growth, factors that determine the amount and types of exchange, the supply and demand model of market operations, price setting, price changes, and the impact of one market on other markets. The text also explains market failures in terms of free market choice, externalities of failures, monopolies, as well as scarcity and choices leading to poverty. When economic policies are considered by the state, there are trade-offs that are necessary in the exchange. Before the government should make decisions, it always has to consider two opportunity costs, namely, 1) budget constraints, and 2) the opportunity cost of the funds spent in the private sector. For example (no. 1), if more money is spent on transfer payments, less will be left for education, national defense, infrastructure. Another example (no. 2) is when the government collects taxes, a direct loss in real income and utility among consumers will result. The book also presents real world economics in terms of the social security tax in the United States. The book can prove valuable for students of economics or business, sociologists, general readers interested in real-world economics, and policy makers involved in national economic development.

Book Introductory Economics

Download or read book Introductory Economics written by Michael Veseth and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 790 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introductory Economics deals with the national economy as a whole—macroeconomics, in terms of inflation and unemployment. The book also discusses individual economic decision-makers—microeconomics, in view of the problems of scarcity and choice. Macroeconomics uses the market model of demand and supply as a tool to analyze the causes of, and present some cures for modern economic ailments. The text examines the economics of government fiscal policies with the framework of an aggregate demand and supply model. The book compares monetary policy and fiscal policy, explains the monetarist model of economic activity, and also investigates the roles of money, credit, interest rates. These economic activities have international consequences such as in trade, exchange rates, and on prevailing and future national economic policies. In microeconomics, the book focuses on the economics of exchange, the market mechanisms that increase the gains from trade, and the problems of choice facing consumers and producers in a competitive market. The text also tackles the problems found in resource markets (labor, natural resources, energy), in market failure, as well as analyzes the role of government. Economists, sociologists, students of economics or business, general readers interested in real-world economics, and policy makers involved in national economic development will find the book valuable.

This book was released on 2023-12-08 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global warming has led to increasing climate risks, and climate change is a global issue facing mankind. Therefore, most developed countries have set a clear goal of achieving carbon neutrality after reaching peak carbon emissions. In the context of global warming, "low-carbon economy" based on low energy consumption and low pollution has become a global popular research topic. At present, the international community has formed a consensus on green transformation and taken practical actions. At the same time, the achievement of the carbon neutrality goal has highlighted the importance of public health, and therefore, a series of new research directions are emerging, and how to develop a low-carbon economy and protect public health while achieving the carbon neutrality goal has become an important issue. In the post-epidemic era, economic recovery and public health issues need to be addressed, and a low-carbon economy and public health will face even greater challenges, with carbon neutrality goals placing this issue at the forefront. For this Research Topic, we would like submissions that provide research results on topics such as green development, green low carbon, resource conservation, low carbon economy, low carbon development, low carbon living, low carbon living, low carbon society, population health, health distribution, health awareness, health behavior, and public health. Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches are welcome to explore the low carbon economy and public health from multiple perspectives. - The developmental history of the low-carbon economy, the level of development, and the evaluation of the level of development. - The many challenges faced by the low-carbon economy in the development process and how to deal with the challenges in the development process. - The development of a low carbon economy is influenced by a variety of factors, such as low carbon investment, policy norms, technology development, energy development, and digitalization levels, etc. We would like research works which study the factors that influence the development of a low carbon economy. - Analyze which industries will have an impact on the development of a low carbon economy, including but not limited to the energy industry, transportation industry, and construction industry. - To study the factors that affect the development of public health and how to improve public health. - To study the impact of residential environment, sports environment, community environment, etc. on public health. - To study the methods used in studies related to the development of a low-carbon economy and public health development. - To analyze the impact of the development of a low-carbon economy on other industries, such as international trade, the real estate industry, and tourism.

Book Control and Game Theoretic Models of the Environment

Download or read book Control and Game Theoretic Models of the Environment written by Jerzy Filar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects some recent works on the application of dynamic game and control theory to the analysis of environmental problems. This collec tion of papers is not the outcome of a conference or of a workshop. It is rather the result of a careful screening from among a number of contribu tions that we have solicited across the world. In particular, we have been able to attract the work of some of the most prominent scholars in the field of dynamic analyses of the environment. Engineers, mathematicians and economists provide their views and analytical tools to better interpret the interactions between economic and environmental phenomena, thus achiev ing, through this interdisciplinary effort, new and interesting results. The goal of the book is more normative than descriptive. All papers include careful modelling of the dynamics of the main variables involved in the game between nature and economic agents and among economic agents themselves, as well-described in Vrieze's introductory chapter. Fur thermore, all papers use this careful modelling framework to provide policy prescriptions to the public agencies authorized to regulate emission dy namics. Several diverse problems are addressed: from global issues, such as the greenhouse effect or deforestation, to international ones, such as the management of fisheries, to local ones, for example, the control of effluent discharges. Moreover, pollution problems are not the only concern of this book.
