Book Production and Use of Petroleum in California Classic Reprint

Download or read book Production and Use of Petroleum in California Classic Reprint written by Lewis E. Aubury and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Production and Use of Petroleum in California The work on the bulletin has extended over a period of two years, and the greatest care has been exercised in the collection of accurate data concerning the subject treated. It was completed and the manu script handed to me in March of this year, but it has taken some time to prepare engravings, maps, etc., and to have the bulletin printed. The aim of the bulletin is to describe the conditions under which petroleum is produced, the amount, source, and character of production of same, and to outline some of the more important ways in which the output is consumed. As the subject has been one of considerable detail, it has been necessary to condense the matter as far as possible. This book was released on 2016-11-05 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from California Mineral Production for 1946 For fuel California depends upon her enormous deposits of petro leum and natural gas rather than upon coal. Annual production of petroleum in California is many times as great in value as that of any other mineral substance, and the 1947 production is expected to be the greatest on record. Although new discoveries are being made in the state, supply is not keeping up with demand, and some petroleum is being imported. Natural gas is in such high demand that a 30-inch pipe line is being constructed to bring this fuel from Texas to California. Book Petroleum

Download or read book Petroleum written by Boverton Redwood and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Petroleum: Its Production and Use The following pages have been reprinted from the Journal of the Society of Arts, London, with the omissions of such portions as would seem to be of little or no interest to American readers. The petroleum industry occupies a wide field in this country, and the amount of capital invested in it is very great, and while, therefore, all that was stated by Mr. Redwood in his lectures was admirable, and doubtless of much interest to his English hearers, very much, on the other hand, would prove to be of no material value to the American reader. We feel on the whole, however, that the subject matter of these lectures, with the exceptions stated, are worth preservation, and believe that all that is here given will be found to be of interest to readers here. It has been deemed better to change the matter from the lecture form in which it appeared in the columns of the Journal of the Society of Arts. Book The Genesis of Petroleum and Asphaltum in California Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Genesis of Petroleum and Asphaltum in California Classic Reprint written by Augustus S. Cooper and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-03 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Genesis of Petroleum and Asphaltum in California It can be tentatively stated that fossil bitumens are principally derived from terrestrial and marine vegetation, deposited in sedimentary strata, then changed to carbonaceous matter, and afterwards distilled by the heat of metamorphism. In other words, the bitumens are Nature's coal oils and tars distilled in Natures still, generally with infinite slowness when compared with a modern tar still or retort. Although some of the hydrocarbons can be produced synthetically in the laboratory, still it is to be believed that nearly all, if not all, of the accumulations of fossil hydrocarbons owe their existence to the vital principle that they are derived directly or indirectly from organized beings - animal or vegetable, probably the latter, for reasons given hereafter. In the decomposition of vegetable tissue, when air is wholly or partially excluded from it, as, for example, when buried in the ground, the constituent elements of the vegetable tissue re-arrange themselves mutually into new products, either with or without the co-operation of the elements of water, the oxygen gradually uniting with the carbon to form carbonic acid, which separates and leaves as a residue substances rich in carbon and hydrogen. It is in this way that bituminous coal, peat, and brown coal (lignite) have been formed from vegetable matter. With carbonaceous material in the same deposit, the same series of strata, or in the same stratum, there are differences of composition. The varieties of carbonaceous materials may have been produced from different kinds of plant form, from which coal has been derived, and the peculiar conditions of the districts where the plants flourished before their downfall and inhumation or submersion. Book Oil Production Methods Classic Reprint

Download or read book Oil Production Methods Classic Reprint written by Paul M. Paine and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Oil Production Methods The 'problems associated with the production of petroleum lie in that middle ground where the geologist, engineer and driller meet. It is anticipated that the latter class, the men who have come up 'from the derrick floor, ' will find little that is new in this book. It has been prepared in response to the demand for a work describing, in a man ner that may be understood by the layman, how wells are drilled and oil produced. The subject is too exhaustive to be covered fully in a single volume ofthis size, and if the authors have described more particularly the methods of the Pacific Coast fields they feel warranted in so doing from the statements of travelers that California practice embodies the most advanced methods in the industry. The authors are indebted to various associates for prompt responses to demands for assistance and wish to express their thanks to all of these, especially to Mr. H. H. Hillman, of the California National Supply Company, Mr. W. 0. Todd and Mr. T. S. Kingston, to whom is due much of whatever value this book may have. Book excerpt: Excerpt from War and Postwar Developments in the Southern California Petroleum Industry Los Angeles basin has become heavily specialized in munitions industries; its industrial activity has expanded greatly; and it has, in spite of a loss of prewar population to the armed forces, experienced a ten per cent net gain in civilian population. There is consequently posed a grave problem as to how the reconversion period will affect the Southern California economy. Can the present rate of industrial activity be maintained? Can employment be provided both for the presently expanded civilian population and for the returning service personnel? Is the area prepared to advance industrially toward new and higher goals? These are only a few of the questions requiring immediate attention. Full analysis of these problems must of necessity undertake Simultaneous con sideration of the whole varied and complex economy of the area, and adequate answers can emerge only from such an analysis. It may nevertheless be helpful as an adjunct to this broad effort to undertake certain narrower investigations of various strategic segments of the economy, a detailed understanding of which may enable us better to deal with the larger issues posed.
