Book Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery NOTES

Download or read book Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery NOTES written by Anthony N. Kalloo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-04-25 with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you interested in using NOTES to treat your patients? Do you need a multimedia tool to guide you through all aspects of clinical management? Just as laparoscopic surgery revolutionized surgical practice in the 1980’s and 90’s, offering genuine competition to traditional open surgery, Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES) presents a genuinely different alternative for surgeons and patients alike as we move forward in the 21st century. Advantages over laparoscopic surgery include lower anesthesia requirements, faster recovery and shorter hospital stays, avoidance of transabdominal wound infections, less immunosuppression, better postoperative pulmonary and diaphragmatic function and of course, the potential for "scarless" abdominal surgery. Combining high-level text with a superb companion website, Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES): Textbook and Video-Atlas provides you with a hands-on, in-depth and practical multimedia tool on this exciting breakthrough, to consult either on the ward or in surgery. Highlights include: Full coverage of the fundamentals of NOTES, its current clinical applications and techniques, and future perspectives Over 50 outstanding videos illustrating NOTES being performed by the experts Full-color throughout and superbly illustrated with over 250 figures Edited by global leaders and pioneers in the field, who have recruited a world-class contributor team As well being a valuable text for gastroenterologists, GI surgeons and general surgeons, Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES): Textbook and Video-Atlas will also appeal to urologists, urologic surgeons, gynecologists, gynecologic surgeons, thoracic and ENT surgeons.

Book Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery

Download or read book Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery written by Peter Cataldo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-03 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cancer of the rectum continues to be a significant health problem in industrialized co- tries around the world. Relative 5-year survival rates in the USA for cancer of the rectum from 1995 to 2001 improved to 65%, a 15% improvement over 20 years (American Cancer Society, 2007). The reasons for this dramatic improvement include more accurate pr- perative staging, aggressive neoadjuvant therapy and improved surgical technique as well as specialty-trained surgeons. Despite advances in nonoperative techniques of radiation therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, surgical extirpation continues to be the cornerstone of curative treatment of this potentially lethal disease. Radical cancer excision with total mesorectal excision has become the preferred surgical procedure for even early-stage cancers of the rectum. Over the past decade the enthusiasm for local excision (and other local treatments) has given way to persuasive (predominantly retrospective) evidence that the incidence of locoregional recurrence due to unsuspected lymphatic metastases and positive lateral margins is un- ceptably high even for stage T tumors. Vigorous attempts to find characteristics of the 1 tumor that would allow successful local treatments are ongoing.

Book Meta Physician on Call for Better Health

Download or read book Meta Physician on Call for Better Health written by Steven E. Hodes M.D. and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2007-11-30 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steven E. Hodes, M.D., initially trained in traditional, high-caliber medical programs that led him through graduation at the Albert Einstein Medical School and to a fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital. But many years later, he saw something vital missing in his approach to healthcare. I was trained as a physician, not a healer...taught to view the patient as a machine suffering from some mechanical failure. My purpose was to be the best diagnostician possible, he explains. Then events occurred that opened the eyes of this now veteran physician to deep insights about the mind-body-spirit connection. That awakening moved him to a metaphysical view of health—a view more spiritual than religious, but still firmly grounded in science. Embracing his role as a metaphysician, he also began to see himself as a meta-physician, or doctor transformed (meta) by this new awareness. In this book, Hodes describes his journey to becoming a metaphysician on call. He points out profound, yet simple, observations and beliefs that affect our perception of the nature of reality—metaphysics—which, in turn, can largely affect our well-being in all senses—body, mind, and spirit. We all can and should take responsibility for our own well-being on all levels, he explains. This book is designed to inspire us to ask our own questions, and gather our own evidence to enhance all areas of our lives and well-being, and so find healing and peace.
