Book Process Monitoring Diagnostics and Prognostics in MacHining Processes

Download or read book Process Monitoring Diagnostics and Prognostics in MacHining Processes written by Fatih Camci and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-01 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) technology increases system availability and safety while reducing costs, attributed to reduced maintenance and inventory, increased capacity, and enhanced logistics and supply chain performance. Employing effective generic process monitoring methods for abrupt failures and diagnostics and prognostics algorithms for incipient failures is an important prerequisite for widespread deployment of CBM. Diagnostics is the process of identifying, localizing and determining severity of a machine failure, whereas prognostics is the process of estimating the remaining-useful-life (RUL). This work presents methods based on support vector machines and hidden Markov models to diagnose abrupt and incipient failures and to estimate the RUL. The presented methods have the ability to handle non- stationary processes. There exist three major goals of this work: detecting abrupt failures (process monitoring), identifying the state of incipient failures (health state estimation) and estimating RUL of the machine (prognostics).

Book Analysis and Synthesis of Fault Tolerant Control Systems

Download or read book Analysis and Synthesis of Fault Tolerant Control Systems written by Magdi S. Mahmoud and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-10-28 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, control systems have become more sophisticated in order to meet increased performance and safety requirements for modern technological systems. Engineers are becoming more aware that conventional feedback control design for a complex system may result in unsatisfactory performance, or even instability, in the event of malfunctions in actuators, sensors or other system components. In order to circumvent such weaknesses, new approaches to control system design have emerged which can tolerate component malfunctions while maintaining acceptable stability and performance. These types of control systems are often known as fault-tolerant control systems (FTCS). More precisely, FTCS are control systems which possess the ability to accommodate component failure automatically. Analysis and Synthesis of Fault-Tolerant Control Systems comprehensively covers the analysis and synthesis methods of fault tolerant control systems. It unifies the methods for developing controllers and filters for a wide class of dynamical systems and reports on the recent technical advances in design methodologies. MATLAB® is used throughout the book, to demonstrate methods of analysis and design. Key features: • Provides advanced theoretical methods and typical practical applications • Provides access to a spectrum of control design methods applied to industrial systems • Includes case studies and illustrative examples • Contains end-of-chapter problems Analysis and Synthesis of Fault-Tolerant Control Systems is a comprehensive reference for researchers and practitioners working in this area, and is also a valuable source of information for graduates and senior undergraduates in control, mechanical, aerospace, electrical and mechatronics engineering departments.

Book Intelligent Diagnosis and Prognosis of Industrial Networked Systems

Download or read book Intelligent Diagnosis and Prognosis of Industrial Networked Systems written by Chee Khiang Pang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-07-28 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an era of intense competition where plant operating efficiencies must be maximized, downtime due to machinery failure has become more costly. To cut operating costs and increase revenues, industries have an urgent need to predict fault progression and remaining lifespan of industrial machines, processes, and systems. An engineer who mounts an acoustic sensor onto a spindle motor wants to know when the ball bearings will wear out without having to halt the ongoing milling processes. A scientist working on sensor networks wants to know which sensors are redundant and can be pruned off to save operational and computational overheads. These scenarios illustrate a need for new and unified perspectives in system analysis and design for engineering applications. Intelligent Diagnosis and Prognosis of Industrial Networked Systems proposes linear mathematical tool sets that can be applied to realistic engineering systems. The book offers an overview of the fundamentals of vectors, matrices, and linear systems theory required for intelligent diagnosis and prognosis of industrial networked systems. Building on this theory, it then develops automated mathematical machineries and formal decision software tools for real-world applications. The book includes portable tool sets for many industrial applications, including: Forecasting machine tool wear in industrial cutting machines Reduction of sensors and features for industrial fault detection and isolation (FDI) Identification of critical resonant modes in mechatronic systems for system design of R&D Probabilistic small-signal stability in large-scale interconnected power systems Discrete event command and control for military applications The book also proposes future directions for intelligent diagnosis and prognosis in energy-efficient manufacturing, life cycle assessment, and systems of systems architecture. Written in a concise and accessible style, it presents tools that are mathematically rigorous but not involved. Bridging academia, research, and industry, this reference supplies the know-how for engineers and managers making decisions about equipment maintenance, as well as researchers and students in the field.

Book Identifying Product and Process State Drivers in Manufacturing Systems Using Supervised Machine Learning

Download or read book Identifying Product and Process State Drivers in Manufacturing Systems Using Supervised Machine Learning written by Thorsten Wuest and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-20 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book reports on a novel approach for holistically identifying the relevant state drivers of complex, multi-stage manufacturing systems. This approach is able to utilize complex, diverse and high-dimensional data sets, which often occur in manufacturing applications, and to integrate the important process intra- and interrelations. The approach has been evaluated using three scenarios from different manufacturing domains (aviation, chemical and semiconductor). The results, which are reported in detail in this book, confirmed that it is possible to incorporate implicit process intra- and interrelations on both a process and programme level by applying SVM-based feature ranking. In practice, this method can be used to identify the most important process parameters and state characteristics, the so-called state drivers, of a manufacturing system. Given the increasing availability of data and information, this selection support can be directly utilized in, e.g., quality monitoring and advanced process control. Importantly, the method is neither limited to specific products, manufacturing processes or systems, nor by specific quality concepts.
