Book An Investigation of the Extrinsic Factors Affecting the Pullout Strength of Aluminum Alloy Extrusions

Download or read book An Investigation of the Extrinsic Factors Affecting the Pullout Strength of Aluminum Alloy Extrusions written by Jigar Kiritkumar Deliwala and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current research includes experiments on the pullout strength of the screw-slot extrusions to understand the extrinsic factors affecting it. Different kinds of extrusions were selected to perform the experiments to verify how each extrinsic factor affects the final pull out strength as a whole. Basic variables thought to affect were the length of the embedment of the screw in to the slot of the extrusion, type of aluminum alloy used, diameter of the slot, opening angle of the slot, diameter of the screw, pitch between the treads of screw etc. Therefore, number of tests performed to check for different values of each factors. Moreover, as a lack of any criteria or specification for the commercially used screw-slot extrusions, the intention was to provide with the formula which takes the relevant extrinsic factors into consideration and gives an idea to a design engineer to estimate the pull out strength of an extrusion which may be helpful for future designs. Few of the experimental results have been furbished in the thesis work for the better understanding of the reader. A load versus extension behavior from various extrusions at various data points are presented. Few of the failure photographs at different lengths of the embedment are presented at the end to show the failure pattern. Finally, a graph for each kind of extrusion is presented, which shows the pullout strength from the established equation versus the experimental results. It shows the reasonable match with the experimental results and proves its reliability.

Book New Materials for Next Generation Commercial Transports

Download or read book New Materials for Next Generation Commercial Transports written by Committee on New Materials for Advanced Civil Aircraft and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-03-29 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major objective of this book was to identify issues related to the introduction of new materials and the effects that advanced materials will have on the durability and technical risk of future civil aircraft throughout their service life. The committee investigated the new materials and structural concepts that are likely to be incorporated into next generation commercial aircraft and the factors influencing application decisions. Based on these predictions, the committee attempted to identify the design, characterization, monitoring, and maintenance issues that are critical for the introduction of advanced materials and structural concepts into future aircraft.

OTHER NONFERROUS METALS - 12. FERROUS METALS - BIBLIOGRAPHY - INDEX - Excerpt from Book (short): Preface - The impact or cold extrusion of metals is a "chipless machining" process that can greatly reduce costs of material and labor if properly applied. Within certain limitations in shape, some parts can be produced by this process that often require only trimming to length. On others, the secondary operations are reduced greatly over those required for several of the competing processes. Finally, certain components can be made that can be produced by no other method. Impact extrusion can be employed for the production of parts from a wide range of metallic materials. In commercial production at present are components produced from aluminum, copper, lead, magnesium, tin, zinc and their alloys and various steels. In the development stage are parts produced from less common metals, such as titanium and molybdenum. The aim of this book is to present a coordinated description of impact extrusion. Its purpose is to present the information required by an engineer to determine whether the process is applicable to his products, and to assist the metallurgist in selecting the metal to be used. The book is based on personal experience, talks, and correspondence with producers of components, and a search of the free-world technical literature. It is divided into two parts. The first deals with the underlying principles and the characteristics of the process; the second, with the metals being extruded and the products.
