Book Design in Educational Technology

Download or read book Design in Educational Technology written by Brad Hokanson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-07 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of a research symposium sponsored by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology [AECT]. The fifteen chapters were developed by leaders in the field and represent the most updated and cutting edge methodology in the areas of instructional design and instructional technology. The broad concepts of design, design thinking, the design process, and the design studio, are identified and they form the framework of the book. This book advocates the conscious adoption of a mindset of design thinking, such as that evident in a range of divergent professions including business, government, and medicine. At its core is a focus on “planning, inventing, making, and doing.” (Cross, 1982), all of which are of value to the field of educational technology. Additionally, the book endeavors to develop a deep understanding of the design process in the reader. It is a critical skill, often drawing from other traditional design fields. An examination of the design process as practiced, of new models for design, and of ways to connect theory to the development of educational products are all fully explored with the goal of providing guidance for emerging instructional designers and deepening the practice of more advanced practitioners. Finally, as a large number of leading schools of instructional design have adopted the studio form of education for their professional programs, we include this emerging topic in the book as a practical and focused guide for readers at all levels.

In the big-data era, data is becoming a strategic asset for global manufacturers. This book shows how the power of data can be leveraged to drive the engineering design process, in particular, the early-stage design. Based on novel combinations of standing design methodology and the emerging data science, the book presents a collection of theoretically sound and practically viable design frameworks, which are intended to address a variety of critical design activities including conceptual design, complexity management, smart customization, smart product design, product service integration, and so forth. In addition, it includes a number of detailed case studies to showcase the application of data-driven engineering design. The book concludes with a set of promising research questions that warrant further investigation. Given its scope, the book will appeal to a broad readership, including postgraduate students, researchers, lecturers, and practitioners in the field of engineering design.

Book Technologies for economic and functional lightweight design

Download or read book Technologies for economic and functional lightweight design written by Klaus Dröder and published by Springer Vieweg. This book was released on 2022-03-12 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprises the proceedings of the conference “Future Production of Hybrid Structures 2020”, which took place in Wolfsburg. The conference focused on hybrid lightweight design, which is characterized by the combination of different materials with the aim of improving properties and reducing weight. In particular, production technologies for hybrid lightweight design were discussed, new evaluation methods for the ecological assessment of hybrid components were presented and future-oriented approaches motivated by nature for the development of components, assemblies and systems were introduced. Lightweight design is a key technology for the development of sustainable and resource-efficient mobility concepts. Vehicle manufacturers operate in an area of conflict between customer requirements, competition and legislation. Material hybrid structures, which combine the advantages of different materials, have a high potential for reducing weight, while simultaneously expanding component functionality. The future, efficient use of function-integrated hybrid structures in vehicle design requires innovations and constant developments in vehicle and production technology. There is a great demand, especially with regard to new methods and technologies, for "affordable" lightweight construction in large-scale production, taking into account the increasing requirements with regard to variant diversity, safety and quality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This conference proceeding summarizes a November, 1999 roundtable discussion on the role of information technology (IT) in housing design and construction. The roundtable was the first in a series of discussions sponsored by the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy (OSTP) to explore how IT can transform and improve American homes and the home building industry. A second workshop will be held in the Spring of 2000 to discuss the role of IT in the home and what the proper role of the federal government should be in bringing the benefits of IT into America's homes. This conference proceeding is intended to share the roundtable discussion and provide information that can be used by interested parties to advance the use of IT within the housing industry. This document solely reflects the author's efforts to summarize the discussion that occurred and to provide a limited amount of additional information on related activities. This document does not constitute analysis of that discussion, nor does it represent validation of the discussion or the recommendations by RAND. Similarly, the information contained in the Appendix does not constitute an endorsement by RAND.
