Excerpt: ...and upon being desired to describe himself, because that title had been for some time dormant, he answered, That he was a student of medicine in Edinburgh; that he had right to the dignity of Monteith; and that he was executor confirmed to the last Earl, as would appear from an extract of the testament, lying in a process before the Lords of Council and Session. Then having duly qualified himselfe as Earl of Monteith, by taking and signing the oaths and declaration, he protested upon his right to that Peerage."
