Book Cosmic Ray Conference Invited Rapporteur And Highlight Papers Proceedings Of The Xxiii International

Download or read book Cosmic Ray Conference Invited Rapporteur And Highlight Papers Proceedings Of The Xxiii International written by T Mathews and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-01-29 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These conferences are the major forum for dissemination of new research results by cosmic ray physicists. The proceedings cover all aspects of research on cosmic ray: observations of cosmic rays from ground-based large detector arrays, balloon-borne instruments and satellite detectors; observations of radio waves and gamma rays produced by cosmic rays in distant galaxies, supernova remnants in our own galaxy, and around other objects such as neutron stars and even our own sun; propagation of cosmic rays within the production source, within the galaxy and within the solar system and near earth environment; theoretical models for production of cosmic rays; cosmic rays as a probe of particle physics at high energy.

Book Multiparticle Dynamics Proceedings Of The Xxiii International Symposium

Download or read book Multiparticle Dynamics Proceedings Of The Xxiii International Symposium written by M M Block and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-04-26 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This international meeting on ultrahigh energy multiparticle phenomena started with a summary of neutrino physics, followed by a detailed review of LEP results. It moved on to the fast-breaking field of rapidity gaps, hard pomeron and small-x structure functions at both Hera and the FermiLab Tevatron. The major collider experiments at FermiLab, and in particular, the results of the top quark search were presented in complete detail. The fields of intermittency, multiplicities, correlation functions, heavy quarks, soft and semihard hadronic physics, and the particle physics aspects of cosmic rays were subjects of spirited debate.

Book Multiparticle Dynamics Proceedings Of The Xxviii International Symposium

Download or read book Multiparticle Dynamics Proceedings Of The Xxviii International Symposium written by Christos N Ktorides and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-11-15 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiparticle dynamics is tightly connected with the fundamental properties of the QCD vacuum. This was reflected in the Scientific Programme of the XXVIII International Symposium on Multiparticle Dynamics. Emphasis was given during the sessions to the collective phenomena at high energies, including: fluctuations and correlations, quark-gluon plasma, QCD phase transitions (fractals, intermittency, wavelets), the QCD structure of the Pomeron, and new aspects of multiplicity distributions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 25th International Cosmic Ray Conference marked the golden jubilee of this series of conferences. Held under the auspices of the IUPAP Commission C4, it was hosted by the Space Research Unit of the Department of Physics of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education. The proceedings present the newest developments and highlights of cosmic ray production and propagation, the extragalactic realm now being explored using neutrino and gamma ray astronomy. These fields are strongly related to high energy physics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrahigh energy cosmic rays carry information about their sources and the intervening medium apart from providing a beam of particles for studying certain features of high energy interactions currently inaccessible at man-made accelerators. They can at present be studied only via the extensive air showers (EAS's) they generate while passing through the Earth's atmosphere, since their fluxes are too low for the experiments of limited capability flown in balloons and satellites. The EAS is generated by a series of interactions of the primary cosmic ray and its progeny with the atmospheric nuclei. The exponential nature of the atmosphere spreads the air showers laterally over several hundreds of meters, thus enabling ground-based arrays of relatively inexpensive detectors to record and study them. This book describes the EAS phenomenology, the detectors and techniques used, and the latest results on the energy spectrum and composition of the primaries of EAS's and the results on high energy interactions obtained from EAS studies. It also describes the new TeV and PeV gamma ray astronomy (which has been developing over the past decade) and the newly emerging neutrino astronomy, which are related to the origin of cosmic rays. This book serves as an introduction as well as a reference for researchers in the field.
