Download or read book Hypervelocity Impact HVI Volume 1 General Introduction written by National Aeronaut Administration (Nasa) and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-03 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During 2003 and 2004, the Johnson Space Center's White Sands Testing Facility in Las Cruces, New Mexico conducted hypervelocity impact tests on the space shuttle wing leading edge. Hypervelocity impact tests were conducted to determine if Micro-Meteoroid/Orbital Debris impacts could be reliably detected and located using simple passive ultrasonic methods. This volume contains an executive summary, overview of the method, brief descriptions of all targets, and highlights of results and conclusions. Gorman, Michael R. and Ziola, Steven M. Book Predictive Modeling of Dynamic Processes

Download or read book Predictive Modeling of Dynamic Processes written by Stefan Hiermaier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-07-09 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Predictive Modeling of Dynamic Processes provides an overview of hydrocode technology, applicable to a variety of industries and areas of engineering design. Covering automotive crash, blast impact, and hypervelocity impact phenomena, this volume offers readers an in-depth explanation of the fundamental code components. Chapters include informative introductions to each topic, and explain the specific requirements pertaining to each predictive hydrocode. Successfully blending crash simulation, hydrocode technology and impact engineering, this volume fills a gap in the current competing literature available.

Download or read book Hypervelocity Impact Physics written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All large spacecraft are susceptible to impacts by meteoroids and orbiting space debris. These impacts occur at extremely high speed and can damage flight-critical systems, which can in turn lead to a catastrophic failure of the spacecraft. Therefore, the design of a spacecraft for a long-duration mission must take into account the possibility of such impacts and their effects on the spacecraft structure and on all of its exposed subsystems components. The work performed under the contract consisted of applied research on the effects of meteoroid/space debris impacts on candidate materials, design configurations, and support mechanisms of long term space vehicles. Hypervelocity impact mechanics was used to analyze the damage that occurs when a space vehicle is impacted by a micrometeoroid or a space debris particle. An impact analysis of over 500 test specimens was performed to generate by a hypervelocity impact damage database.
