Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing relevance of security to real-life applications, such as electronic commerce and Internet banking, is attested by the fast-growing number of - search groups, events, conferences, and summer schools that address the study of foundations for the analysis and the design of security aspects. The “Int- national School on Foundations of Security Analysis and Design” (FOSAD, see http://www.sti.uniurb.it/events/fosad/)has been one of the foremost events - tablishedwiththegoalofdisseminatingknowledgeinthiscriticalarea, especially for young researchers approaching the ?eld and graduate students coming from less-favoured and non-leading countries. The FOSAD school is held annually at the Residential Centre of Bertinoro (http://www.ceub.it/), in the fascinating setting of a former convent and ep- copal fortress that has been transformed into a modern conference facility with computing services and Internet access. Since the ?rst school, in 2000, FOSAD hasattractedmorethan250participantsand50lecturersfromallovertheworld. A collection of tutorial lectures from FOSAD 2000 was published in Springer’s LNCS volume 2171. Some of the tutorials given at the two successive schools (FOSAD 2001 and 2002) are gathered in a second volume, LNCS 2946. To c- tinue this tradition, the present volume collects a set of tutorials fromthe fourth FOSAD, held in 2004, and from FOSAD 2005.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ETAPS 2005 was the eighth instance of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. ETAPS is an annual federated conference that was established in 1998 by combining a number of existing and new conf- ences. This year it comprised ?ve conferences (CC, ESOP, FASE, FOSSACS, TACAS), 17 satellite workshops (AVIS, BYTECODE, CEES, CLASE, CMSB, COCV, FAC, FESCA, FINCO, GCW-DSE, GLPL, LDTA, QAPL, SC, SLAP, TGC, UITP), seven invited lectures (not including those that were speci?c to the satellite events), and several tutorials. We received over 550 submissions to the ?ve conferences this year, giving acceptance rates below 30% for each one. Congratulations to all the authors who made it to the ?nal program! I hope that most of the other authors still found a way of participating in this exciting event and I hope you will continue submitting. The events that comprise ETAPS address various aspects of the system - velopment process, including speci?cation, design, implementation, analysis and improvement. The languages, methodologies and tools which support these - tivities are all well within its scope. Di?erent blends of theory and practice are represented, with an inclination towards theory with a practical motivation on the one hand and soundly based practice on the other. Many of the issues involved in software design apply to systems in general, including hardware s- tems, andtheemphasisonsoftwareisnotintendedtobeexclusive.

Book excerpt: The Fifth International Conference on Computational Science (ICCS 2005) held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, May 22–25, 2005, continued in the tradition of p- vious conferences in the series: ICCS 2004 in Krakow, Poland; ICCS 2003 held simultaneously at two locations, in Melbourne, Australia and St. Petersburg, Russia; ICCS 2002 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands; and ICCS 2001 in San Francisco, California, USA. Computational science is rapidly maturing as a mainstream discipline. It is central to an ever-expanding variety of ?elds in which computational methods and tools enable new discoveries with greater accuracy and speed. ICCS 2005 wasorganizedasaforumforscientistsfromthecoredisciplinesofcomputational science and numerous application areas to discuss and exchange ideas, results, and future directions. ICCS participants included researchers from many app- cation domains, including those interested in advanced computational methods for physics, chemistry, life sciences, engineering, economics and ?nance, arts and humanities, as well as computer system vendors and software developers. The primary objectives of this conference were to discuss problems and solutions in allareas, toidentifynewissues, toshapefuturedirectionsofresearch, andtohelp users apply various advanced computational techniques. The event highlighted recent developments in algorithms, computational kernels, next generation c- puting systems, tools, advanced numerical methods, data-driven systems, and emerging application ?elds, such as complex systems, ?nance, bioinformatics, computational aspects of wireless and mobile networks, graphics, and hybrid computation.

Download or read book Formal Methods for Components and Objects written by Marcello M. Bonsangue and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-12-04 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formal methods have been applied successfully to the verification of medium-sized programs in protocol and hardware design. However, their application to the development of large systems requires more emphasis on specification, modelling and validation techniques supporting the concepts of reusability and modifiability, and their implementation in new extensions of existing programming languages like Java. The 6th International Symposium on Formal Methods for Components and Objects, FMCO 2007, was held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in October 2007. This book presents 12 revised papers submitted after the symposium by the speakers of each of the following European IST projects: the IST-FP6 project Mobius, developing the technology for establishing trust and security for the next generation of global computers; the IST-FP6 project SelfMan on self management for large-scale distributed systems based on structured overlay networks and components; the IST-FP6 project GridComp and the FP6 CoreGRID Network of Excellence on grid programming with components; the Real-time component cluster of the Network of Excellence on Embedded System Design ARTIST, focussing on design processes, and architectures for real-time embedded systems; and the IST-FP6 project CREDO on modeling and analysis of evolutionary structures for distributed services.
