Download or read book Security for Web Services and Service Oriented Architectures written by Elisa Bertino and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-22 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Web services technologies are advancing fast and being extensively deployed in many di?erent application environments. Web services based on the eXt- sible Markup Language (XML), the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), andrelatedstandards,anddeployedinService-OrientedArchitectures(SOAs) are the key to Web-based interoperability for applications within and across organizations. Furthermore, they are making it possible to deploy appli- tions that can be directly used by people, and thus making the Web a rich and powerful social interaction medium. The term Web 2.0 has been coined to embrace all those new collaborative applications and to indicate a new, “social” approach to generating and distributing Web content, characterized by open communication, decentralization of authority, and freedom to share and reuse. For Web services technologies to hold their promise, it is crucial that - curity of services and their interactions with users be assured. Con?dentiality, integrity, availability, anddigitalidentitymanagementareallrequired.People need to be assured that their interactions with services over the Web are kept con?dential and the privacy of their personal information is preserved. People need to be sure that information they use for looking up and selecting s- vicesiscorrectanditsintegrityisassured.Peoplewantservicestobeavailable when needed. They also require interactions to be convenient and person- ized, in addition to being private. Addressing these requirements, especially when dealing with open distributed applications, is a formidable challenge.
Download or read book Business Process Management written by Wil M.P. van der Aalst and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-08-18 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Business Process Management (BPM 2005), organized by LORIA in Nancy, France, September 5–8, 2005. This year, BPM included several innovations with respect to previous e- tions, most notably the addition of an industrial program and of co-located workshops. This was the logical result of the signi?cant (and still growing) - dustrial interest in the area and of the broadening of the research communities working on BPM topics. The interest in business process management (and in the BPM conference) was demonstrated by the quantity and quality of the paper submissions. We received over 176 contributions from 31 countries, accepting 25 of them as full papers (20 research papers and 5 industrial papers) while 17 contributions were accepted as short papers. In addition to the regular, industry, and short pres- tations invited lectures weregiven by Frank Leymannand Gustavo Alonso. This combination of research papers, industrial papers, keynotes, and workshops, all of very high quality, has shown that BPM has become a mature conference and the main venue for researchers and practitioners in this area. We would like to thank the members of the Program Committee and the reviewers for their e?orts in selecting the papers. They helped us compile an excellent scienti?c program. For the di?cult task of selecting the 25 best papers (14% acceptance rate) and 17 short papers each paper was reviewed by at least three reviewers (except some out-of-scope papers).

Download or read book The Global Cyber Vulnerability Report written by V.S. Subrahmanian and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-09 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book that uses cyber-vulnerability data to explore the vulnerability of over four million machines per year, covering a two-year period as reported by Symantec. Analyzing more than 20 billion telemetry reports comprising malware and binary reputation reports, this book quantifies the cyber-vulnerability of 44 countries for which at least 500 hosts were monitored. Chapters explain the context for this data and its impact, along with explaining how the cyber-vulnerability is calculated. This book also contains a detailed summary of the cyber-vulnerability of dozens of nations according to the percentage of infected hosts and number of infections. It identifies relationships between piracy rates, GDP and other country indicators. The book contains detailed information about potential cyber-security policies that 44 countries have announced, as well as an analysis of gaps in cyber-security policies in general. The Global Cyber-Vulnerability Report targets researchers and professionals including government and military workers, policy-makers and law-makers working in cybersecurity or the web intelligence fields. Advanced-level students in computer science will also find this report valuable as a reference.
