Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unfortunately, dust explosions are common and costly in a wide array of industries such as petrochemical, food, paper and pharmaceutical. It is imperative that practical and theoretical knowledge of the origin, development, prevention and mitigation of dust explosions is imparted to the responsible safety manager. The material in this book offers an up to date evaluation of prevalent activities, testing methods, design measures and safe operating techniques. Also provided is a detailed and comprehensive critique of all the significant phases relating to the hazard and control of a dust explosion. An invaluable reference work for industry, safety consultants and students. A completely new chapter on design of electrical equipment to be used in areas containing combustible/explosible dust A substantially extended and re-organized final review chapter, containing nearly 400 new literature references from the years 1997-2002 Extensive cross-referencing from the original chapters 1-7 to the corresponding sections of the expanded review chapter

Book Fundamentals of Turbulent and Multiphase Combustion

Download or read book Fundamentals of Turbulent and Multiphase Combustion written by Kenneth Kuan-yun Kuo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-04-24 with total page 914 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detailed coverage of advanced combustion topics from the author of Principles of combustion, Second Edition Turbulence, turbulent combustion, and multiphase reacting flows have become major research topics in recent decades due to their application across diverse fields, including energy, environment, propulsion, transportation, industrial safety, and nanotechnology. Most of the knowledge accumulated from this research has never been published in book form—until now. Fundamentals of Turbulent and Multiphase Combustion presents up-to-date, integrated coverage of the fundamentals of turbulence, combustion, and multiphase phenomena along with useful experimental techniques, including non-intrusive, laser-based measurement techniques, providing a firm background in both contemporary and classical approaches. Beginning with two full chapters on laminar premixed and non-premixed flames, this book takes a multiphase approach, beginning with more common topics and moving on to higher-level applications. In addition, Fundamentals of Turbulent and Multiphase Combustion: Addresses seven basic topical areas in combustion and multiphase flows, including laminar premixed and non-premixed flames, theory of turbulence, turbulent premixed and non-premixed flames, and multiphase flows Covers spray atomization and combustion, solid-propellant combustion, homogeneous propellants, nitramines, reacting boundary-layer flows, single energetic particle combustion, and granular bed combustion Provides experimental setups and results whenever appropriate Supported with a large number of examples and problems as well as a solutions manual, Fundamentals of Turbulent and Multiphase Combustion is an important resource for professional engineers and researchers as well as graduate students in mechanical, chemical, and aerospace engineering.

Book Explosion Hazards in the Process Industries

Download or read book Explosion Hazards in the Process Industries written by Rolf K. Eckhoff and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explosion Hazards in the Process Industries, Second Edition, delivers the most current and comprehensive content for today’s process engineer. Process safety and petrochemical engineers inherently accept that there is a risk of explosions when working on process facilities such as plants and refineries. Yet many that enter this field do not have a fundamental starting point to understand the nature of explosions, and there are a lot of misconceptions and impartial information in the market. Explosion Hazards in the Process Industries, Second Edition, answers this need by providing engineers and consultants a go-to reference and training guide to understand the principles of explosions, what causes them, and how to mitigate and prevent them from reoccurring. Enhanced to include new chapters on BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosions), water vapor explosions, and destructive effects from accidental explosions, this guide continues to fulfill a comprehensive introduction to the subject, rounded out with new case studies, references, and a discussion on methods of hazard and risk analysis. Offers a comprehensive introduction to process safety Includes updated new chapters on Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosions (BLEVE), water vapor explosions, and destructive effects for accidental explosions Gains new case studies, references, and standards to stay on top of what is new and critical Establishes the starting point to process safety and understanding the fundamentals of explosions and how to mitigate them

Download or read book Energetic Materials written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-11-21 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides an overview of current research and recent advances in the area of energetic materials, focusing on explosives and propellants. The contents and format reflect the fact that theory, experiment and computation are closely linked in this field. The challenge of developing energetic materials that are less sensitive to accidental stimuli continues to be of critical importance. This volume opens with discussions of some determinants of sensitivity and its correlations with various molecular and crystal properties. The next several chapters deal in considerable detail with different aspects and mechanisms of the initiation of detonation, and its quantitative description. The second half of this volume focuses upon combustion. Extensive studies model ignition and combustion, with applications to different propellants. The final chapter is an exhaustive computational treatment of the mechanism and kinetics of combustion initiation reactions of ammonium perchlorate. Overall, this volume illustrates the progress that has been made in the field of energetic materials and some of the areas of current activity. It also indicates the challenges involved in characterizing and understanding the properties and behaviour of these compounds. The work is a unique state-of-the-art treatment of the subject, written by pre-eminent researchers in the field. - Overall emphasis is on theory and computation, presented in the context of relevant experimental work - Presents a unique state-of-the-art treatment of the subject - Contributors are preeminent researchers in the field

Book Effects of Gravity on Laminar Gas Jet Diffusion Flames

Download or read book Effects of Gravity on Laminar Gas Jet Diffusion Flames written by Thomas H. Cochran and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental program was conducted to study the burning of laminar gas jet diffusion flames in a zero-gravity environment. The tests were conducted in the Lewis Research Center 2.2-Second Zero-Gravity Facility. The photographic results indicated that a sudden decrease in gravity level from 1 to 0 effected an immediate reduction in the length of the flame. Continued time in zero gravity resulted in the flame expanding away from the burner until extinguishment appeared to occur. Nondimensionalization of the governing flow equation yielded the parameters used to correlate the buoyancy effects.
