Book Proceedings of the Symposium on Complex Analysis Canterbury 1973

Download or read book Proceedings of the Symposium on Complex Analysis Canterbury 1973 written by J. Clunie and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1974-08-08 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An international conference on complex analysis was held in Canterbury in July 1973. Some of the world's most prominent complex analysts attended and some outstanding open problems had their first solutions announced there. These are reflected in this set of Proceedings. Almost all of the contributions are abstracts of talks given at the symposium. The final part of this volume is a section on research problems contributed by members of the conference and a report on a previous collection of problems edited by Professor W. K. Hayman after an earlier conference in 1964. This book is essential reading for research workers and graduate students interested in complex analysis.

Download or read book Integrable Systems written by Sergeĭ Petrovich Novikov and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1981-09-17 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book considers the theory of 'integrable' non-linear partial differential equations. The theory was developed at first by mathematical physicists but later mathematicians, particularly from the Soviet Union, were attracted to the field. In this volume are reprinted some fundamental contributions, originally published in Russian Mathematical Surveys, from some of the leading Soviet workers. Dr George Wilson has written an introduction intended to smooth the reader's path through some of the articles.

Book Affine Sets and Affine Groups

Download or read book Affine Sets and Affine Groups written by D. G. Northcott and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1980-05-08 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these notes, first published in 1980, Professor Northcott provides a self-contained introduction to the theory of affine algebraic groups for mathematicians with a basic knowledge of communicative algebra and field theory. The book divides into two parts. The first four chapters contain all the geometry needed for the second half of the book which deals with affine groups. Alternatively the first part provides a sure introduction to the foundations of algebraic geometry. Any affine group has an associated Lie algebra. In the last two chapters, the author studies these algebras and shows how, in certain important cases, their properties can be transferred back to the groups from which they arose. These notes provide a clear and carefully written introduction to algebraic geometry and algebraic groups.

Book Surveys in Combinatorics

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the invited papers from the 1983 British Combinatorial Conference. Several distinguished mathematicians were invited to give a lecture and write a paper for the conference volume. The papers cover a broad range of combinatorial topics, including enumeration, finite geometries, graph theory and permanents.

Book ZZ 2 Homotopy Theory

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael Charles Crabb
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 1980-11-28
  • ISBN : 0521280516
  • Pages : 137 pages

Download or read book ZZ 2 Homotopy Theory written by Michael Charles Crabb and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1980-11-28 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This account is a study of twofold symmetry in algebraic topology. The author discusses specifically the antipodal involution of a real vector bundle - multiplication by - I in each fibre; doubling and squaring operations; the symmetry of bilinear forms and Hermitian K-theory. In spite of its title, this is not a treatise on equivariant topology; rather it is the language in which to describe the symmetry. Familiarity with the basic concepts of algebraic topology (homotopy, stable homotopy, homology, K-theory, the Pontrjagin-Thom transfer construction) is assumed. Detailed proofs are not given (the expert reader will be able to supply them when necessary) yet nowhere is credibility lost. Thus the approach is elementary enough to provide an introduction to the subject suitable for graduate students although research workers will find here much of interest.

Book Trace Ideals and Their Applications

Download or read book Trace Ideals and Their Applications written by Barry Simon and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1979-08-16 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These expository lectures contain an advanced technical account of a branch of mathematical analysis. In his own lucid and readable style the author begins with a comprehensive review of the methods of bounded operators in a Hilbert space. He then goes on to discuss a wide variety of applications including Fredholm theory and more specifically his own specialty of mathematical quantum theory. included also are an extensive and up-to-date list of references enabling the reader to delve more deeply into this topical subject.

Book Surveys in Combinatorics

Download or read book Surveys in Combinatorics written by B. Bollobás and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1979-08-09 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combinatorics is an active field of mathematical study and the British Combinatorial Conference, held biennially, aims to survey the most important developments by inviting distinguished mathematicians to lecture at the meeting. The contributions of the principal lecturers at the Seventh Conference, held in Cambridge, are published here and the topics reflect the breadth of the subject. Each author has written a broadly conceived survey, not limited to his own work, but intended for wide readership. Important aspects of the subject are emphasized so that non-specialists will find them understandable. Topics covered include graph theory, matroids, combinatorial set theory, projective geometry and combinatorial group theory. All those researching into any aspect of Combinatorics and its applications will find much in these articles of use and interest.

Download or read book Polytopes and Symmetry written by Stewart A. Robertson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1984-01-26 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes a fresh approach to the classification of of convex plane polygons and of convex polyhedra according to their symmetry properties, based on ideas of topology and transformation group theory. Although there is considerable agreement with traditional treatments, a number of new concepts emerge that present classical ideas in a quite new way.
