Download or read book Proceedings of the Third Symposium on the Plasma Sheath Plasma Electromagnetics of Hypersonic Flight written by and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a collection of the unclassified papers presented at the Third Symposium on the Plasma Sheath-Plasma Electromagnetics of Hypersonic Flight. This symposium consisted of the review of progress in reentry communication studies during the three year period since the prior meeting. The program of this symposium on plasma electromagnetics of hypersonic flight involves a wide range of scientific disciplines, including electromagnetics, aerodynamics, aero-thermochemistry, plasma dynamics, electronics, and high- temperature phenomena. The papers were selected to explore as many of these facets of research, including the results of laboratory, flight, and system tests, as time permitted.

Book Gasdynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems

Download or read book Gasdynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems written by A. K. Oppenheim and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 787 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems documents the proceedings of the 6th Colloquium held at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, 22-26 August 1977. The meeting was held under the auspices of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the International Academy of Astronautics. The scientific program included over one hundred papers. The contributions in this volume are organized into four parts. Part I contains papers on gaseous detonations. It covers topics such as theoretical model of a detonation cell; spherical detonations in hydrocarbon-air mixtures; and shock wave propagation in tubes filled with water foams. Part II presents studies on explosions, such as the detonation of hydrogen azide and propagation of a laser-supported detonation wave. Part III examines condensed phase detonations. It includes papers on the mechanism of the divergent and convergent dark waves originating at the charge boundary in detonating liquid homogeneous explosives with unstable detonation front; and initiation studies in sensitized nitromethane. Part IV presents discussions on turbulent detonations, covering topics such as the computational aspects of turbulent combustion and problems and techniques in turbulent reactive systems.

Book Megagauss Physics and Technology

Download or read book Megagauss Physics and Technology written by Peter J. Turchi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The generation and use of megagauss magnetic fields have been subjects of research and development in laboratories around the world for over a quarter of a century. Research goals have included the development of compact, short-pulse, electrical power sources and the production of ultrahigh magnetic field strengths over significant experimental volumes. Energies measured in megajoules, currents in megamperes and timescales of microseconds are not uncommon in such work. Phase changes, insulator breakdowns, and local des truction of the apparatus are also frequently encountered. Some efforts have involved the use of high explosive systems, developing methodologies rather distinct from those of a normal physics laboratory. Manipulation of magnetic flux to exchange energy between high speed, electrically conducting flows and high strength electromagnetic fields remains, of course, a basic interaction of classical physics. The remoteness of the necessary experimental sites (at least in many instances) and the various national concerns for security of defense-related research have often limited the flow of information between investigators of separate organizations, working in common areas of technical concern. Occa sionally, however, it has been possible for the community of scientists and engineers engaged in work on high magnetic fields and related high energy den sity systems to gather together and exchange results and plans, successes and failures. The first such international gathering was in 1965 at the Conference on Megagauss Magnetic Field Generation by Explosives and Related Experi ments, Frascati, Italy.

Book Concrete Structures Under Projectile Impact

Download or read book Concrete Structures Under Projectile Impact written by Qin Fang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-22 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the authors present their theoretical, experimental and numerical investigations into concrete structures subjected to projectile and aircraft impacts in recent years. Innovative approaches to analyze the rigid, mass abrasive and eroding projectile penetration and perforation are proposed. Damage and failure analyses of nuclear power plant containments impacted by large commercial aircrafts are numerically and experimentally analyzed. Ultra-high performance concrete materials and structures against the projectile impact are developed and their capacities of resisting projectile impact are evaluated. This book is written for the researchers, engineers and graduate students in the fields of protective structures and terminal ballistics.

Book Dynamic Response of Materials to Intense Impulsive Loading

Download or read book Dynamic Response of Materials to Intense Impulsive Loading written by Pei Chi Chou and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book concerns the dynamic response of materials due to intensive impulsive loadings. The materials considered are primarily solids, although most of the discussions are also applicable to fluids. The loading and response in general happen within a very short time, in the order of microseconds, rather than milliseconds. The duration of the loading, whether mechanical impact or thermodynamic energy input, may sometimes be described in terms of nanoseconds. The magnitude of the loading is such that the initial stress in the material is high, and subsequently decays to moderate values, so that both compressibility and strength effects are important. The book is concerned only with material response, and not with structural response.

Book Correlation of New Hypervelocity Impact Data by Threshold Penetration Relations

Download or read book Correlation of New Hypervelocity Impact Data by Threshold Penetration Relations written by Robert John Hayduk and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Threshold penetration data are established by impacting spherical projectiles onto 2024 aluminum single-wall targets. Nylon and cadmium projectiles were used at impacting velocities from 3.0 to 6.8 km/s and 7.9 to 8.5 km/s respectively. These data are combined with existing data and compared with three threshold relations to assess their respective validities over a wide range of projectile densities. Two of these relations were validated over the extended range of projectile densities.
