Book Proceedings of the Apollo Unified S Band Technical Conference

Download or read book Proceedings of the Apollo Unified S Band Technical Conference written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-01-30 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This history of the Manned Space Flight Network reveals that each successive mission is considered more complex than the previous one. As a result, the tracking and communication problems become more complicated, requiring more sophisticated equipment. The Apollo missions differ considerably from past manned missions in that there is a requirement, for the first time, to send astronauts to the moon and return them safely to earth. For this reason, the position of the spacecraft must be known at all times and continuous communications must be maintained between earth and the spacecraft during most of the mission phases. This requirement has dictated incorporating the Unified S-Band System into the Manned Space Flight Network. This system will provide the primary tracking and communications data between earth and the spacecraft in the later Apollo missions. The proceedings contained herein are the conference records of papers presented at the Technical Conference on the Apollo Unified S-Band System. These proceedings will constitute a first handbook pertaining the Apollo Manned Space Flight Network.

Book Human Spaceflight Apollo 50 Years On

Download or read book Human Spaceflight Apollo 50 Years On written by National Academy of Engineering and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human Spaceflight: Apollo 50 Years On summarizes the 2019 National Academies of Engineering Annual Meeting plenary presentations and forum. The Annual Meeting celebrated not only the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission but human spaceflight in general, from the first ventures beyond Earth's atmosphere to future flights to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. Speakers reflected on the inspiring trajectory of ingenuity, achievements, and lessons of the Apollo mission and discussed implications for future exploration, workforce development, and public engagement.

Book Medical and Biological Problems of Space Flight

Download or read book Medical and Biological Problems of Space Flight written by Geoffrey H. Bourne and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medical and Biological Problems of Space Flight covers the proceedings of the conference held in Nassau, the Bahamas. The book focuses on the biological and medical problems of space flight, as well as advanced manned space systems, cardiovascular adaptability, weightlessness, and remote visual monitoring. The selection first offers information on the development of manned space vehicles and advanced manned space systems, including manned satellite and space stations, safety considerations, and man-machine aspects. The book also takes a look at Marsflight II space cabin simulator and device for simulating weightlessness. Discussions focus on the psychological aspects of real and simulated weightlessness; physiological effects of real and simulated weightlessness; and critique of simulation excellence. The publication examines maintenance of cardiovascular adaptability during prolonged weightlessness and the physical, biological, and medical aspects of weightlessness. The text then ponders on remote visual monitoring during extended space missions and cosmic ray shower production in manned space vehicles. Topics include electron-proton showers and limitations imposed by communications on transmission of pictorial information from a space vehicle. The selection is a valuable reference for readers interested in the medical and biological problems of space flight.

Book Beyond the International Space Station The Future of Human Spaceflight

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Y. Fujimori, Symposium Programme Committee Chair, and Faculty Member, International Space University e-mail: fujimori@isu. isunet. edu M. Rycroft, Faculty Member, International Space University e-mail: rycroft@isu. isunet. edu Building on the foundations provided by the International Space Station, now partially constructed and already in use in low Earth orbit, what will be the future directions of human spaceflight? This was the key question discussed from many viewpoints - technical, entrepreneurial, governmental, legal - at the seventh Annual Symposium held in Strasbourg, France, early in June 2002. Many ideas on the "whys" and the "hows" of our future exploration of the final frontier were put forward in a stimulating environment. The unique perspective of the International Space University (ISU) - namely an interdisciplinary, international and intercultural perspective - enhanced both the presentations and the discussions. More than 150 people attended the Symposium, including the current members of the Master of Space Studies class who are attending an 11 month course at ISU. They are young professionals and postgraduate students who develop in-depth some part of the broad Symposium theme in their parallel Team Projects. Their final reports will be completed at the end of July 2002, and will be published independently. 1 Beyond the ISS: The Future of Human Spaceflight Keynote Address: A Summary The Need for a New Vision E.
