Book Mobility Performance of the Lunar Roving Vehicle

Download or read book Mobility Performance of the Lunar Roving Vehicle written by Nicholas C. Costes and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The constraints of the Apollo 15 mission dictated that the average and limiting performance capabilities of the first manned Lunar Roving Vehicle, when operated on the lunar vehicle, be known or estimated within narrow margins. For this reason, extensive studies were conducted during the year preceding the Apollo 15 launch and are described herein. The results of these studies are compared with the actual performance of the Lunar Roving Vehicle during the Apollo 15 mission. From this comparison, conclusions are drawn relating to the capabilities and limitations of current terrestrial methodology in predicting the mobility performance of lunar roving vehicles under in-situ environmental conditions, and recommendations are offered concerning the performance of surface vehicles on future missions related to lunar or planetary exploration.

Book General Yield Conditions in a Plasticity Analysis of Soil wheel Interaction

Download or read book General Yield Conditions in a Plasticity Analysis of Soil wheel Interaction written by E. Nowatzki and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plasticity theory and a general representation of the Mohr failure criterion are applied to the problem of soil-wheel interaction. Load, drawbar pull (or drag), torque are computed for a rigid wheel being driven on sand obtained from Jones Beach, Long Island, New York. Analytical results obtained from soutions using a conventional Mohr-Coulcomb linear failure envelope are compared to those obtained from a nonlinear solution. Conclusions are drawn from the comparison that attest the importance of considering the nonlinearity of failure envelopes in certain cases for accuracy of soil-wheel interaction prediction. Preliminary experimental results show reasonable agreement with predicted values of wheel performance parameters. (Author).

Book Automotive Mechatronics Operational and Practical Issues

Download or read book Automotive Mechatronics Operational and Practical Issues written by B. T. Fijalkowski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-25 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents operational and practical issues of automotive mechatronics with special emphasis on the heterogeneous automotive vehicle systems approach, and is intended as a graduate text as well as a reference for scientists and engineers involved in the design of automotive mechatronic control systems. As the complexity of automotive vehicles increases, so does the dearth of high competence, multi-disciplined automotive scientists and engineers. This book provides a discussion into the type of mechatronic control systems found in modern vehicles and the skills required by automotive scientists and engineers working in this environment. Divided into two volumes and five parts, Automotive Mechatronics aims at improving automotive mechatronics education and emphasises the training of students’ experimental hands-on abilities, stimulating and promoting experience among high education institutes and produce more automotive mechatronics and automation engineers. The main subject that are treated are: VOLUME I: RBW or XBW unibody or chassis-motion mechatronic control hypersystems; DBW AWD propulsion mechatronic control systems; BBW AWB dispulsion mechatronic control systems; VOLUME II: SBW AWS diversion mechatronic control systems; ABW AWA suspension mechatronic control systems. This volume was developed for undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as for professionals involved in all disciplines related to the design or research and development of automotive vehicle dynamics, powertrains, brakes, steering, and shock absorbers (dampers). Basic knowledge of college mathematics, college physics, and knowledge of the functionality of automotive vehicle basic propulsion, dispulsion, conversion and suspension systems is required.
