Book Electrochemistry of Silicon and Its Oxide

Download or read book Electrochemistry of Silicon and Its Oxide written by Xiaoge Gregory Zhang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It may be argued that silicon, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and iron are among the most important elements on our planet, because of their involvement in geological, biol- ical, and technological processes and phenomena. All of these elements have been studied exhaustively, and voluminous material is available on their properties. Included in this material are numerous accounts of their electrochemical properties, ranging from reviews to extensive monographs to encyclopedic discourses. This is certainly true for C, H, O, and Fe, but it is true to a much lesser extent for Si, except for the specific topic of semiconductor electrochemistry. Indeed, given the importance of the elect- chemical processing of silicon and the use of silicon in electrochemical devices (e. g. , sensors and photoelectrochemical cells), the lack of a comprehensive account of the electrochemistry of silicon in aqueous solution at the fundamental level is surprising and somewhat troubling. It is troubling in the sense that the non-photoelectrochemistry of silicon seems “to have fallen through the cracks,” with the result that some of the electrochemical properties of this element are not as well known as might be warranted by its importance in a modern technological society. Dr. Zhang’s book, Electrochemical Properties of Silicon and Its Oxide, will go a long way toward addressing this shortcoming. As with his earlier book on the elect- chemistry of zinc, the present book provides a comprehensive account of the elect- chemistry of silicon in aqueous solution.

Book Understanding Biocorrosion

Download or read book Understanding Biocorrosion written by T Liengen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-11-14 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biocorrosion refers to corrosion influenced by bacteria adhering to surfaces in biofilms. Biocorrosion is a major problem in areas such as cooling systems and marine structures where biofilms can develop. This book summarises key recent research in this subject. Part one looks at theories of biocorrosion and measurement techniques. Part two discusses how bacteria and biofilms result in biocorrosion. The final part of the book includes case studies of biocorrosion in areas as diverse as buildings, fuels, marine environments and cooling systems. Provides a detailed overview of biocorrosion and the different scientific and/or industrial problems related to microbially induced corrosion Introduces a variety of investigative techniques and methodologies that are employed in diagnosing and evaluating microbially induced corrosion Includes case studies on: biodeterioration of building materials; biocorrosion issues associated with diesel and biofuels; marine biocorrosion; corrosion of open recirculating cooling water systems and cooling system components; the effect of H2S on steel corrosion

Book New Trends in Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy EIS and Electrochemical Noise Analysis ENA

Download or read book New Trends in Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy EIS and Electrochemical Noise Analysis ENA written by Florian Mansfeld and published by The Electrochemical Society. This book was released on 2001 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These 22 contributions concentrate primarily on newer applications of the staple EIS technique, and secondarily, on the more recent use of ENA in corrosion research. Papers treat experimental aspects of EIS and data analysis; EIS for investigating the protective properties and degradation of polymer coatings; and EIS in combination with other techniques to study specific corrosion phenomena, e.g., the corrosive rates of steel in soil environments. Mansfeld (U. of Southern California), et al., describe the use of both techniques to monitor the corrosion behavior of active and passive systems exposed to chloride media. The volume includes facts about the Electrochemical Society. Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR.

Book Light Emission from Silicon Progress Towards Si based Optoelectronics

Download or read book Light Emission from Silicon Progress Towards Si based Optoelectronics written by Jan Linnros and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1999 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers presented at Symposium B of the 1998 spring meeting of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS). The symposium attracted well over 100 scientists engaged in one common goal - that of developing efficient light emitting Si-based structures. This included various technical approaches such as porous silicon, Si nanocrystals, rare-earth doping of Si, light emitting silicides, Si-based multilayer and alloy structures and SiGe structures. In this respect, the meeting had a more multidisciplinary approach than previous meetings, the main idea being a fruitful comparison of the different techniques that would also stimulate cross-disciplinary research. Generally, presentations at the conference revealed high scientific quality and several new findings and refinements of existing techniques were disclosed. One example was the much-debated report of optical gain from a structure containing Si nanocrystals. Another example was the dramatically improved stability of derivatised porous silicon. The technique of producing porous Si microcavities has been refined such that cavities of high optical quality may now be fabricated. The latest material to emerge as a candidate for a Si-based light emitting device has been iron silicide and room temperature operation has been reported. The interest is further motivated by the prospect of obtaining direct bandgap emission. The 90 collected papers represent about 80% of the submitted papers out of more than 140 accepted abstracts. The papers have been grouped according to subject although no ordering within each subgroup has been attempted. All invited papers have been placed in the foremost section to serve as reviews in each separate field.

Book Pits and Pores 4 New Materials and Applications In Memory of Ulrich G sele

Download or read book Pits and Pores 4 New Materials and Applications In Memory of Ulrich G sele written by D. J. Lockwood and published by The Electrochemical Society. This book was released on 2011-03 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This issue of ECS Transactions contains 24 refereed manuscripts from the 46 papers presented over three days at the International Symposium on Pits and Pores IV: New Materials and Applications held in Las Vegas, NV as part of the 218th Meeting of the Electrochemical Society, October 10-15, 2010. The Symposium was held in memory of Ulrich Gösele, one of the founders and a key scientist in the field of porous semiconductors who recently passed away. These proceedings are anticipated to be beneficial not only for the tailored preparation of porous materials for various applications but also as a source of insights with respect to the origin and nature of localized dissolution processes in metals and semiconductors.
