Book Transplant Production Systems

Download or read book Transplant Production Systems written by K. Kurata and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As biotechnology produces an unprecedented number of new plantvarieties, automated transplant production systems offer the means for their large-scale introduction via a rapid, efficient and economic method. As labour costs increase, so will automated systems assume even greater importance. Reforestation and afforestation projects, anti-des-ertification plantings and an increasing demand for urban greenery also create enormous demands for the mass production of high quality transplants, in addition to the commercial needs of the agriculture industry. The application of engineering techniques to modern micropropagation techniques and plant production means that many tasks can be automated, especially physical manipulation and close control of the microenvironment. This volume provides overviews of the main con-cepts -- plug seedling production, micropropagation, robotization, model development, measurement and environmental control -- with an emphasis on practical considerations. Examples are drawn from flower, vegetable and forest tree species to show how disciplines such as robotics and image analysis have a part to play in plant production.

Book In Vitro Technology and Micropropagated Plants

Download or read book In Vitro Technology and Micropropagated Plants written by Alicja Tymoszuk and published by . This book was released on 2024-02-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Propagation of horticultural plants through in vitro culture has become a viable alternative to conventional propagation methods worldwide. Rapid production of true-to-type and disease-free plants in controlled laboratory conditions, in a small space, in a short time, and regardless of seasonality are especially desired for producing cuttings for commercial purposes in horticulture. On the other hand, in vitro culture is an important tool in plant breeding, as well as in plant conservation and long-term storage. This reprint contains an anthology of studies regarding the latest advancements in the field of in vitro culture of horticultural plants. Readers will gain a deeper understanding of how this technology is shaping the future of crop improvement and horticulture. The reprint not only highlights the remarkable progress made in in vitro technology, but also emphasizes ongoing efforts to overcome issues related to somaclonal variations, virus elimination, and acclimatization of micropropagated plants.

Book Transplant Production in the 21st Century

Download or read book Transplant Production in the 21st Century written by Chieri Kubota and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-11-30 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The outstanding points of this book are: 1) it is the first book focused on transplant production in closed systems, 2) many of the authors are acknowledged as the experts in their designated research area, and 3) the book covers both biological and engineering aspects of transplant production, and therefore, 4) it represents an integration of state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary technologies and knowledge. A book entitled Plant Production in Closed Ecosystems published in 1997 covers similar topics, but Transplant Production in the 21st Century uniquely focuses on providing updated information and new concepts for a closed system that is suitable for transplant production in the 21st Century. It includes additional information related to biotechnology/micropropagation and micro-environmental analysis/control. Transplant Production in the 21st Century will be an important publication for the field of horticulture, agriculture and forestry, for researchers and engineers in biotechnology, greenhouse technology, information technology, and environmental control.
