Book Convexity and Discrete Geometry Including Graph Theory

Download or read book Convexity and Discrete Geometry Including Graph Theory written by Karim Adiprasito and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-02 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents easy-to-understand yet surprising properties obtained using topological, geometric and graph theoretic tools in the areas covered by the Geometry Conference that took place in Mulhouse, France from September 7–11, 2014 in honour of Tudor Zamfirescu on the occasion of his 70th anniversary. The contributions address subjects in convexity and discrete geometry, in distance geometry or with geometrical flavor in combinatorics, graph theory or non-linear analysis. Written by top experts, these papers highlight the close connections between these fields, as well as ties to other domains of geometry and their reciprocal influence. They offer an overview on recent developments in geometry and its border with discrete mathematics, and provide answers to several open questions. The volume addresses a large audience in mathematics, including researchers and graduate students interested in geometry and geometrical problems.

Book Thirty Essays on Geometric Graph Theory

Download or read book Thirty Essays on Geometric Graph Theory written by János Pach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-15 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many applications of graph theory, graphs are regarded as geometric objects drawn in the plane or in some other surface. The traditional methods of "abstract" graph theory are often incapable of providing satisfactory answers to questions arising in such applications. In the past couple of decades, many powerful new combinatorial and topological techniques have been developed to tackle these problems. Today geometric graph theory is a burgeoning field with many striking results and appealing open questions. This contributed volume contains thirty original survey and research papers on important recent developments in geometric graph theory. The contributions were thoroughly reviewed and written by excellent researchers in this field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Part 1 of a two-part volume reflecting the proceedings of the 1993 Georgia International Topology Conference held at the University of Georgia during the month of August. The texts include research and expository articles and problem sets. The conference covered a wide variety of topics in geometric topology. Features: Kirby's problem list, which contains a thorough description of the progress made on each of the problems and includes a very complete bibliography, makes the work useful for specialists and non-specialists who want to learn about the progress made in many areas of topology. This list may serve as a reference work for decades to come. Gabai's problem list, which focuses on foliations and laminations of 3-manifolds, collects for the first time in one paper definitions, results, and problems that may serve as a defining source in the subject area.

Book Topology Geometry And Field Theory Proceedings Of The 31st International Taniguchi Symposium And Proceedings Of The Conference

Download or read book Topology Geometry And Field Theory Proceedings Of The 31st International Taniguchi Symposium And Proceedings Of The Conference written by Kenji Fukaya and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-08-31 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nobel Symposium 129 on Neutrino Physics was held at Haga Slott in Enköping, Sweden during August 19-24, 2004. Invited to the symposium were around 40 globally leading researchers in the field of neutrino physics, both experimental and theoretical. The dominant theme of the lectures was neutrino oscillations, which after several years were recently verified by results from the Super-Kamiokande detector in Kamioka, Japan and the SNO detector in Sudbury, Canada. Discussion focused especially on effects of neutrino oscillations derived from the presence of matter and the fact that three different neutrinos exist. Since neutrino oscillations imply that neutrinos have mass, this is the first experimental observation that fundamentally deviates from the standard model of particle physics. This is a challenge to both theoretical and experimental physics. The various oscillation parameters will be determined with increased precision in new, specially designed experiments. Theoretical physics is working intensively to insert the knowledge that neutrinos have mass into the theoretical models that describe particle physics. The lectures provided a very good description of the intensive situation in the field right now. The topics discussed also included mass models for neutrinos, neutrinos in extra dimensions as well as the “seesaw mechanism,” which provides a good description of why neutrino masses are so small. This book is A4 size and in full color.

Download or read book Basic Topology 2 written by Avishek Adhikari and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-08 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second of the three-volume book is targeted as a basic course in topology for undergraduate and graduate students of mathematics. It focuses on many variants of topology and its applications in modern analysis, geometry, algebra, and the theory of numbers. Offering a proper background on topology, analysis, and algebra, this volume discusses the topological groups and topological vector spaces that provide many interesting geometrical objects which relate algebra with geometry and analysis. This volume follows a systematic and comprehensive elementary approach to the topology related to manifolds, emphasizing differential topology. It further communicates the history of the emergence of the concepts leading to the development of topological groups, manifolds, and also Lie groups as mathematical topics with their motivations. This book will promote the scope, power, and active learning of the subject while covering a wide range of theories and applications in a balanced unified way.

Book Topological Theory of Graphs

Download or read book Topological Theory of Graphs written by Yanpei Liu and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2017-03-06 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces polyhedra as a tool for graph theory and discusses their properties and applications in solving the Gauss crossing problem. The discussion is extended to embeddings on manifolds, particularly to surfaces of genus zero and non-zero via the joint tree model, along with solution algorithms. Given its rigorous approach, this book would be of interest to researchers in graph theory and discrete mathematics.

Book Toric Topology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Megumi Harada

Download or read book Toric Topology written by Megumi Harada and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2008 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Toric topology is the study of algebraic, differential, symplectic-geometric, combinatorial, and homotopy-theoretic aspects of a particular class of torus actions whose quotients are highly structured. The combinatorial properties of this quotient and the equivariant topology of the original manifold interact in a rich variety of ways, thus illuminating subtle aspects of both the combinatorics and the equivariant topology. Many of the motivations and guiding principles of the fieldare provided by (though not limited to) the theory of toric varieties in algebraic geometry as well as that of symplectic toric manifolds in symplectic geometry. This volume is the proceedings of the International Conference on Toric Topology held in Osaka in May-June 2006. It contains about 25 research and survey articles written by conference speakers, covering many different aspects of, and approaches to, torus actions, such as those mentioned above. Some of the manuscripts are survey articles, intended to give a broad overview of an aspect of the subject; all manuscripts consciously aim to be accessible to a broad reading audience of students andresearchers interested in the interaction of the subjects involved. We hope that this volume serves as an enticing invitation to this emerging field.
