Book Heavy Ion Accelerator Technology Eighth International Conference

Download or read book Heavy Ion Accelerator Technology Eighth International Conference written by Kenneth W. Shepard and published by American Inst. of Physics. This book was released on 1999-04-28 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrostatic ion accelerators and associated superconducting linacs were the class of accelerators discussed. Continuing the trend of the last several meetings in this series, two sessions were needed to report current developments in superconducting ion accelerators. Also, many interesting recent developments were reported in a session devoted to ECR ion sources. Several applications received attention. A session was devoted to atomic mass spectroscopy. Both because of the venue and the timeliness of the topic, two sessions and a number of poster presentations focussed on the technology needed for beams of exotic, radioactive nuclei.

Book Frontiers of Accelerator Technology

Download or read book Frontiers of Accelerator Technology written by S I Kurokawa and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-03-23 with total page 876 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The motivation to conceive and build accelerators comes from a most fundamental need of man — to understand and control the world around us. With beams and their associated accelerators, scientists and engineers can gain understanding of the nature of matter and modify matter, which is not possible by other means. The areas already influenced by the developments in accelerator technology are high energy and nuclear physics, atomic and molecular physics, condensed matter physics and the biological sciences. There are also a growing number of applications in medicine and industry. This book summarizes all the currently available knowledge on the rf technology driving the development of particle beams for science, medicine and industry. It is a unique collection of information on this technology. Book Electrostatic Accelerators

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ragnar Hellborg
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2005-11-02
  • ISBN : 3540270957
  • Pages : 630 pages

Download or read book Electrostatic Accelerators written by Ragnar Hellborg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-11-02 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrostatic accelerators are an important and widespread subgroup within the broad spectrum of modern, large particle acceleration devices. They are specifically designed for applications that require high-quality ion beams in terms of energy stability and emittance at comparatively low energies (a few MeV). Their ability to accelerate virtually any kind of ion over a continuously tunable range of energies makes them a highly versatile tool for investigations in many research fields including, but not limited to, atomic and nuclear spectroscopy, heavy ion reactions, accelerator mass spectroscopy as well as ion-beam analysis and modification. The book is divided into three parts. The first part concisely introduces the field of accelerator technology and techniques that emphasize their major modern applications. The second part treats the electrostatic accelerator per se: its construction and operational principles as well as its maintenance. The third part covers all relevant applications in which electrostatic accelerators are the preferred tool for accelerator-based investigations. Since some topics are common to all types of accelerators, Electrostatic Accelerators will also be of value for those more familiar with other types of accelerators.

Book Symposium Of North Eastern Accelerator Personnel Sneap 23

Download or read book Symposium Of North Eastern Accelerator Personnel Sneap 23 written by Berners Edgar Davis and published by #N/A. This book was released on 1990-08-25 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings are a compilation of formal papers and informal discussion on the practical concerns in operating and improving electrostatic accelerators and their boosters. They are unique because of the amount of experience the participants have and that all discussion on the sessions is included. It could be described as a sort of 'manual of current operating experience and concerns' of these accelerators.

Book The Electrostatic Accelerator

Download or read book The Electrostatic Accelerator written by Ragnar Hellborg and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2019-03-08 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrostatic Accelerators have been at the forefront of modern technology since the development by Sir John Cockroft and Ernest Walton in 1932 of the first accelerator, which was the first to achieve nuclear transmutation and earned them the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1951. The applications of Cockroft and Walton's development have been far reaching, even into our kitchens where it is employed to generate the high voltage needed for the magnetron in microwave ovens. Other electrostatic accelerator related Nobel prize winning developments that have had a major socio-economic impact are; the electron microscope where the beams of electrons are produced by an electrostatic accelerator, X-rays and computer tomography (CT) scanners where the X-rays are produced using an electron accelerator and microelectronic technology where ion implantation is used to dope the semiconductor chips which form the basis of our computers, mobile phones and entertainment systems. Although the Electrostatic Accelerator field is over 90 years old, and only a handful of accelerators are used for their original purpose in nuclear physics, the field and the number of accelerators is growing more rapidly than ever. The objective of this book is to collect together the basic science and technology that underlies the Electrostatic Accelerator field so it can serve as a handbook, reference guide and textbook for accelerator engineers as well as students and researchers who work with Electrostatic Accelerators.
