This book was released on 2008 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thrid and final DVD in the ED'S STORY series contains the following films: My Garden and Ask Forgiveness My Garden: When we meet someone, one of the first questions we ask is, "So, what do you do?" It's easy to become wrapped up in a career or job. But who are we outside of our work? What happens when that job is no longer there? Are we still ourselves? A pastor for many years, Ed struggled to adjust to a life without the pulpit. But he eventually discovered there is much more to who we are than what we do. Ask Forgiveness: When Ed was told his life would be over in a few short years, he found his priorities drastically rearranged. Things that used to be important became mildly relevant, while things that didn't seem to matter were now all that did. Ed realized this probably meant he could have done certain things better. As he asked those around him for forgiveness, perhaps he also helped them to see what is truly important in his life.

Book Selected Unsolved Problems in Coding Theory

Download or read book Selected Unsolved Problems in Coding Theory written by David Joyner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-26 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using an original mode of presentation, and emphasizing the computational nature of the subject, this book explores a number of the unsolved problems that still exist in coding theory. A well-established and highly relevant branch of mathematics, the theory of error-correcting codes is concerned with reliably transmitting data over a ‘noisy’ channel. Despite frequent use in a range of contexts, the subject still contains interesting unsolved problems that have resisted solution by some of the most prominent mathematicians of recent decades. Employing Sage—a free open-source mathematics software system—to illustrate ideas, this book is intended for graduate students and researchers in algebraic coding theory. The work may be used as supplementary reading material in a graduate course on coding theory or for self-study.

Download or read book Scale Problems in Hydrology written by V.K. Gupta and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A special workshop on scale problems in hydrology was held at Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey, during October 31-November 3, 1984. This workshop was the second in a series on this general topic. The proceedings of the first workshop, held in Caracas, Venezuela, in January 1982, appeared in the Journal of Hydrology (Volume 65:1/3, 1983). This book contains the papers presented at the second workshop. The scale problems in hydrology and other geophysical sciences stem from the recognition that the mathematical relationships describing a physical phenomenon are mostly scale dependent in the sense that different relationships manifest at different space-time scales. The broad scientific problem then is to identify and for mulate suitable relationships at the scales of practical interest, test them experimen tally and seek consistent analytical connections between these relationships and those known at other scales. For example, the current hydrologic theories of evaporation, infiltration, subsurface water transport and water sediment transport overland and in channels etc. derive mostly from laboratory experiments and therefore generally apply at "small" space-time scales. A rigorous extrapolation of these theories to large spatial and temporal basin scales, as mandated by practical considerations, appears very difficult. Consequently, analytical formulations of suitable hydrologic theories at basin wide space-time scales and their experimental verification is currently being perceived to be an exciting and challenging area of scientific research in hydrology. In order to successfully meet these challenges in the future, this series of workshops was initiated.

Book Day of Empire

Download or read book Day of Empire written by Amy Chua and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2009-01-06 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this sweeping history, bestselling author Amy Chua explains how globally dominant empires—or hyperpowers—rise and why they fall. In a series of brilliant chapter-length studies, she examines the most powerful cultures in history—from the ancient empires of Persia and China to the recent global empires of England and the United States—and reveals the reasons behind their success, as well as the roots of their ultimate demise. Chua's analysis uncovers a fascinating historical pattern: while policies of tolerance and assimilation toward conquered peoples are essential for an empire to succeed, the multicultural society that results introduces new tensions and instabilities, threatening to pull the empire apart from within. What this means for the United States' uncertain future is the subject of Chua's provocative and surprising conclusion.

Download or read book Biocultural Landscapes written by Sun-Kee Hong and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the cultural and biological dimensions and values of landscapes, linking the concepts of biodiversity, landscape and culture and presenting an essential approach for landscape analysis, interpretation and sustainable dynamics. Early chapters explore the concepts and values of biocultural landscapes, before addressing the methodology to identify the relationship between biological and cultural diversity. The volume continuous with a series of case studies and with an exploration of the key role of biocultural diversity in contemporary landscape ecology. Readers will learn the importance of landscapes for different fields of natural and human sciences and are confronted to the trans-disciplinary nature of the landscape concept itself. A hierarchical approach to landscapes, in which they are composed of interacting (eco)systems, is shown to be essential in recognizing their emergent properties. In this work, the biocultural values of landscapes are explored through their diversity in geographical scopes, methodological approaches and conceptual assumptions. Authors from Asia, Europe and North-America present diverse research experiences and views on biocultural landscapes, their pattern, conservation and management. Landscape ecologists will find this work particularly appealing, as well as anyone with an interest in sustainable landscape development, nature conservation or cultural heritage management. This volume is the outcome of a symposium on “Biodiversity in Cultural Landscapes”, organized in the framework of the 8th IALE World Congress, held in Beijing in 2011.

Book Coding Theory And Cryptology

Download or read book Coding Theory And Cryptology written by Harald Niederreiter and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002-12-03 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inaugural research program of the Institute for Mathematical Sciences at the National University of Singapore took place from July to December 2001 and was devoted to coding theory and cryptology. As part of the program, tutorials for graduate students and junior researchers were given by world-renowned scholars. These tutorials covered fundamental aspects of coding theory and cryptology and were designed to prepare for original research in these areas. The present volume collects the expanded lecture notes of these tutorials. The topics range from mathematical areas such as computational number theory, exponential sums and algebraic function fields through coding-theory subjects such as extremal problems, quantum error-correcting codes and algebraic-geometry codes to cryptologic subjects such as stream ciphers, public-key infrastructures, key management, authentication schemes and distributed system security.

Book Handbook of the History of General Topology

Download or read book Handbook of the History of General Topology written by C.E. Aull and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first one of a work in several volumes, treating the history of the development of topology. The work contains papers which can be classified into 4 main areas. Thus there are contributions dealing with the life and work of individual topologists, with specific schools of topology, with research in topology in various countries, and with the development of topology in different periods. The work is not restricted to topology in the strictest sense but also deals with applications and generalisations in a broad sense. Thus it also treats, e.g., categorical topology, interactions with functional analysis, convergence spaces, and uniform spaces. Written by specialists in the field, it contains a wealth of information which is not available anywhere else.
