During the seven troublous years since the war began the fixed policy to put by something in the saving fund was never relaxed. Only once was it necessary even to borrow from that fund to avoid evasion of its responsibilities. Growth and development of the country means an enlargement of the opportunities of the architectural profession and its responsibilities. A broad view of the appropriate future of professional practice in America should bring a realizing sense that the American Institute of Architects rests under a pressing duty toward the education of its future members. That duty is overwhelmingly imperative and makes it incumbent upon the Institute to increase the effectiveness of its work and upon the members to strenghten its position financially more rapidly than has been possible heretofore. (Applause.) The President: It is in order to move the reception of the report. Discussion of it will be deferred until the report of the Board of Directors. It was resolved that the Treasurer's report be received. Report of the Board of Directors To the Fifty-fourth Annual Convention The report of the Board of Directors was presented by the Secretary, Mr. William Stanley Parker, as follows: To the Fifty-fourth Convention: We meet again in Washington this year, for various reasons; and, especially in view of the additional number of delegates resulting from the increase in membership, we are fortunate in having the privilege of using this auditorium and the Board.wishes to record its appreciation of the courtesy of the officials of the Smithsonian Institution who have made it possible.
