The application of multiple computational intelligence technologies, such as fuzzy systems, evolutionary computation, neural systems, consensus theory, etc., aims to support human and other collective intelligence and to create new forms of CCI in natural and/or artificial systems. This 14th issue contains 9 carefully selected and thoroughly revised contributions.

Book Handbook of Semantic Web Technologies

Download or read book Handbook of Semantic Web Technologies written by John Domingue and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-19 with total page 1077 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After years of mostly theoretical research, Semantic Web Technologies are now reaching out into application areas like bioinformatics, eCommerce, eGovernment, or Social Webs. Applications like genomic ontologies, semantic web services, automated catalogue alignment, ontology matching, or blogs and social networks are constantly increasing, often driven or at least backed up by companies like Google, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn and others. The need to leverage the potential of combining information in a meaningful way in order to be able to benefit from the Web will create further demand for and interest in Semantic Web research. This movement, based on the growing maturity of related research results, necessitates a reliable reference source from which beginners to the field can draw a first basic knowledge of the main underlying technologies as well as state-of-the-art application areas. This handbook, put together by three leading authorities in the field, and supported by an advisory board of highly reputed researchers, fulfils exactly this need. It is the first dedicated reference work in this field, collecting contributions about both the technical foundations of the Semantic Web as well as their main usage in other scientific fields like life sciences, engineering, business, or education.

Book Geospatial Semantics and the Semantic Web

Download or read book Geospatial Semantics and the Semantic Web written by Naveen Ashish and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-11 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The availability of geographic and geospatial information and services, especially on the open Web has become abundant in the last several years with the proliferation of online maps, geo-coding services, geospatial Web services and geospatially enabled applications. The need for geospatial reasoning has significantly increased in many everyday applications including personal digital assistants, Web search applications, local aware mobile services, specialized systems for emergency response, medical triaging, intelligence analysis and more. Geospatial Semantics and the Semantic Web: Foundations, Algorithms, and Applications, an edited volume contributed by world class leaders in this field, provides recent research in the theme of geospatial semantics. This edited volume presents new information systems applications that have potential for high impact and commercialization. Also, special effort was made by the contributors to focus on geospatial ontology development, related standards, geospatial ontology alignment and integration, and algorithmic techniques for geospatial semantics. Case studies and examples will be provided throughout this book as well as possibilities for future research.

Book Semantic Web Technologies for Enterprise 2 0

Download or read book Semantic Web Technologies for Enterprise 2 0 written by A. Passant and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2010-12-08 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we detail different theories, methods and implementations combining Web 2.0 paradigms and Semantic Web technologies in Enterprise environments. After introducing those terms, we present the current shortcomings of tools such as blogs and wikis as well as tagging practices in an Enterprise 2.0 context. We define the SemSLATES methodology and the global vision of a middleware architecture based on Semantic Web technologies and Linked Data principles (languages, models, tools and protocols) to solve these issues. Then, we detail the various ontologies that we build to achieve this goal. We present on the one hand the models dedicated to socio-structural meta-data, especially SIOC – Semantically-Interlinked Online Communities –, and on the other hands models extending public ontologies for representing domain knowledge. Moreover, we detail the MOAT – Meaning Of A Tag – ontology, providing a way to combine the flexibility of tagging and the power of ontology-based indexing. We also describe several software implementations related to these models, done in the industrial context of EDF R&D, and dedicated to easily produce and use semantic annotations to enrich original tools: semantic wikis, advanced visualization interfaces (faceted browsing, semantic mash-ups, etc.) combined with a semantic search engine. Several contributions described in this thesis have been published as public ontologies or open-source software, contributing more generally to this convergence between Web 2.0 and the Semantic Web, not only in enterprise but on the Web as a whole.
