  • Pages : 382 pages

Download or read book Hydraulic Structures written by C S James and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-12-19 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This graduate/upper-division undergraduate textbook provides a solid grounding in the theory underlying the design and analysis of hydraulic structures, including spillways, energy dissipators, culverts, flow measuring structures and others. It describes well-established theory and procedures, as well as recent developments gleaned from the research literature, with a design-oriented perspective. Professor James provides all of the necessary detail for many practical design applications, while retaining a concise presentation, with ample references to many comprehensive supplementary design guides. Appropriate for upper-level undergraduate and graduate civil engineering student and practitioners in the field, the book fosters an understanding of and competence in applying basic theoretical concepts. Focuses on the hydraulic rather than structural aspects of hydraulic structures with an extensive review of relevant basic hydraulic theory; Explains clearly the concept of hydraulic control and how controls govern the behavior of different structures; Reinforces concepts presented with exercise problems set at the ends of chapters; Provides an extensive review of relevant basic hydraulic theory along with comprehensive references to primary sources and detailed design guides; Illustrates applications with topical worked examples.

Book Advances in Frontier Research on Engineering Structures

Download or read book Advances in Frontier Research on Engineering Structures written by A. Cheshmehzangi and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2023-10-19 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civil architecture and structural engineering may be subjects to which most of us never give a second thought, but both these disciplines are crucial to the built environment in which we live, and without the skills of those who work in them, our buildings and infrastructure would lack the safety and reliability that we all take for granted. This book presents the proceedings of ICCASE 2023, the 7th International Conference on Civil Architecture and Structural Engineering, held in Guangzhou, China, from 14 - 16 April 2023 as a virtual event, and attended by around 250 international participants. The aim of the conference was to discuss recent advances and new perspectives in civil architecture and structural engineering, and to gain insight into the current state of the field and future scenarios. A total of 190 submissions were received for the conference, of which 78 were accepted for presentation after peer review. These are divided into 4 sections: civil construction and underground structure analysis; underground space and special structure engineering; construction material quality and performance research; and structural seismic design and reinforcement engineering. Topics covered included high-rise buildings and large-span structures; the monitoring and control of structures, tunnels and underground structures; calculation principles of the seismic design of structures; and seismic isolation technology of structures, among others. The book offers a comprehensive overview of civil architecture and structural engineering today, and will be of interest to all those working in the field.

Book Hydraulic Processes on Alluvial Fans

Download or read book Hydraulic Processes on Alluvial Fans written by R.H. French and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1987-06-01 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alluvial fans are among the most prominent landscape features in the American Southwest and throughout the semi-arid and arid regions of the world. The importance of developing a qualitative and quantitative understanding of the hydraulic processes which formed, and which continue to modify, these features derives from their rapid and significant development over the past four decades. As unplanned urban sprawl has moved from valley floors onto alluvial fans, the serious damage incurred from infrequent flow events has dramatically increased. This book presents a concise, coherent discussion of our current and rapidly expanding knowledge of hydraulic processes on alluvial fans. It addresses the subject from a multidisciplinary viewpoint, acquainting the geologist with engineering principles, and the civil engineer and planner with geological principles pertinent to the analysis of hydraulic processes on alluvial fans. The book thus provides much of interest to geologists, civil engineers and planners involved in floodplain management and drainage design in arid and semi-arid regions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water is vital to life, maintenance of ecological balance, economic development, and sustenance of civilization. Planning and management of water resources and its optimal use are a matter of urgency for most countries of the world, and even more so for India with a huge population. Growing population and expanding economic activities exert increasing demands on water for varied needs--domestic, industrial, agricultural, power generation, navigation, recreation, etc. In India, agriculture is the highest user of water. The past three decades have witnessed numerous advances as well as have presented intriguing challenges and exciting opportunities in hydrology and water resources. Compounding them has been the growing environmental consciousness. Nowhere are these challenges more apparent than in India. As we approach the twenty first century, it is entirely fitting to take stock of what has been accomplished and what remains to be accomplished, and what accomplishments are relevant, with particular reference to Indian conditions.
