Book Twenty Lectures on Algorithmic Game Theory

Download or read book Twenty Lectures on Algorithmic Game Theory written by Tim Roughgarden and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-30 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer science and economics have engaged in a lively interaction over the past fifteen years, resulting in the new field of algorithmic game theory. Many problems that are central to modern computer science, ranging from resource allocation in large networks to online advertising, involve interactions between multiple self-interested parties. Economics and game theory offer a host of useful models and definitions to reason about such problems. The flow of ideas also travels in the other direction, and concepts from computer science are increasingly important in economics. This book grew out of the author's Stanford University course on algorithmic game theory, and aims to give students and other newcomers a quick and accessible introduction to many of the most important concepts in the field. The book also includes case studies on online advertising, wireless spectrum auctions, kidney exchange, and network management.

Book Location Systems

Download or read book Location Systems written by Anthony LaMarca and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2008-07-08 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in electronic location technology and the coming of age of mobile computing have opened the door for location-aware applications to permeate all aspects of everyday life. Location is at the core of a large number of high-value applications ranging from the life-and-death context of emergency response to serendipitous social meet-ups. For example, the market for GPS products and services alone is expected to grow to US$200 billion by 2015. Unfortunately, there is no single location technology that is good for every situation and exhibits high accuracy, low cost, and universal coverage. In fact, high accuracy and good coverage seldom coexist, and when they do, it comes at an extreme cost. Instead, the modern localization landscape is a kaleidoscope of location systems based on a multitude of different technologies including satellite, mobile telephony, 802.11, ultrasound, and infrared among others. This lecture introduces researchers and developers to the most popular technologies and systems for location estimation and the challenges and opportunities that accompany their use. For each technology, we discuss the history of its development, the various systems that are based on it, and their trade-offs and their effects on cost and performance. We also describe technology-independent algorithms that are commonly used to smooth streams of location estimates and improve the accuracy of object tracking. Finally, we provide an overview of the wide variety of application domains where location plays a key role, and discuss opportunities and new technologies on the horizon. Table of Contents: Introduction / The Global Positioning System / Infrared and Ultrasonic Systems / Location Esimation with 802.11 / Cellular-Based Systems / Other Approaches / Improving Localization Accuracy / Location-Based Applications and Services / Challenges and Opportunities / References

Book Intelligent IoT for the Digital World

Download or read book Intelligent IoT for the Digital World written by Yang Yang and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-03-29 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTELLIGENT IOT FOR THE DIGITAL WORLD DISCOVER HOW THE INTELLIGENT INTERNET OF THINGS WILL CHANGE THE INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY IN THE NEXT DECADE In the digital world, most data and Internet of Things (IoT) services need to be efficiently processed and executed by intelligent algorithms using local or regional computing resources, thus greatly saving and reducing communication bandwidth, end-to-end service delay, long-distance data transmissions, and potential privacy breaches. This book proposes a pyramid model, where data, computing and algorithm jointly constitute the triangular base to support a variety of user-centric intelligent IoT services at the spire by using different kinds of smart terminals or devices. This book provides a state-of-the-art review of intelligent IoT technologies and applications, discusses the key challenges and opportunities facing the digital world, and answers the following five critical questions: What is the most feasible network architecture to effectively provide sufficient resources anywhere anytime for intelligent IoT application scenarios? How do we efficiently discover, allocate and manage computing, communication and caching resources in heterogeneous networks across multiple domains and operators? How do we agilely achieve adaptive service orchestration and reliable service provisioning to meet dynamic user requirements in real time? How do we effectively protect data privacy in IoT applications, where IoT devices and edge/fog computing nodes only have limited resources and capabilities? How do we continuously guarantee and maintain the synchronization and reliability of wide-area IoT systems and applications? Written for professionals working in 5G/IoT technology development, service management and big data analytics, this book offers an overview of intelligent IoT service architecture, key technologies, important applications and future technological trends.

Book Transdisciplinary Engineering for Resilience Responding to System Disruptions

Download or read book Transdisciplinary Engineering for Resilience Responding to System Disruptions written by L. Newnes and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2021-11-17 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No one discipline or person can encompass all the knowledge necessary to solve complex, ill-defined problems, or problems for which a solution is not immediately obvious. The concept of Concurrent Engineering (CE) – interdisciplinary, but with an engineering focus – was developed to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the Product Creation Process (PCP) by conducting different phases of a product’s life concurrently. Transdisciplinary Engineering has transcended CE, emphasizing the crucial importance of interdisciplinary openness and collaboration. This book presents the proceedings of the 28th ISTE International Conference on Transdisciplinary Engineering (TE2021). Held online from 5 – 9 July 2021 and entitled ‘Transdisciplinary Engineering for Resilience: Responding to System Disruptions’, this is the second conference in the series held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The annual TE conference constitutes an important forum for international scientific exchange on transdisciplinary engineering research, advances, and applications, and is attended by researchers, industry experts and students, as well as government representatives. The book contains 58 peer-reviewed papers, selected from more than 80 submissions and ranging from the theoretical and conceptual to strongly pragmatic and addressing industrial best practice. The papers are grouped under 6 headings covering theory; education and training; PD methods and digital TE; industry and society; product systems; and individuals and teams. Providing an overview of the latest research results and knowledge of product creation processes and related methodologies, the book will be of interest to all researchers, design practitioners, and educators working in the field of Transdisciplinary Engineering.
