Book Emerging Memory and Computing Devices in the Era of Intelligent Machines

Download or read book Emerging Memory and Computing Devices in the Era of Intelligent Machines written by Pedram Khalili Amiri and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-04-16 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computing systems are undergoing a transformation from logic-centric towards memory-centric architectures, where overall performance and energy efficiency at the system level are determined by the density, performance, functionality and efficiency of the memory, rather than the logic sub-system. This is driven by the requirements of data-intensive applications in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and edge computing. We are at an exciting time in the semiconductor industry where several innovative device and technology concepts are being developed to respond to these demands, and capture shares of the fast growing market for AI-related hardware. This special issue is devoted to highlighting, discussing and presenting the latest advancements in this area, drawing on the best work on emerging memory devices including magnetic, resistive, phase change, and other types of memory. The special issue is interested in work that presents concepts, ideas, and recent progress ranging from materials, to memory devices, physics of switching mechanisms, circuits, and system applications, as well as progress in modeling and design tools. Contributions that bridge across several of these layers are especially encouraged.

Book Applications in Electronics Pervading Industry Environment and Society

Download or read book Applications in Electronics Pervading Industry Environment and Society written by Sergio Saponara and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-06-04 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features the manuscripts accepted for the Special Issue “Applications in Electronics Pervading Industry, Environment and Society—Sensing Systems and Pervasive Intelligence” of the MDPI journal Sensors. Most of the papers come from a selection of the best papers of the 2019 edition of the “Applications in Electronics Pervading Industry, Environment and Society” (APPLEPIES) Conference, which was held in November 2019. All these papers have been significantly enhanced with novel experimental results. The papers give an overview of the trends in research and development activities concerning the pervasive application of electronics in industry, the environment, and society. The focus of these papers is on cyber physical systems (CPS), with research proposals for new sensor acquisition and ADC (analog to digital converter) methods, high-speed communication systems, cybersecurity, big data management, and data processing including emerging machine learning techniques. Physical implementation aspects are discussed as well as the trade-off found between functional performance and hardware/system costs.

Book Approximate Arithmetic Circuit Architectures for FPGA based Systems

Download or read book Approximate Arithmetic Circuit Architectures for FPGA based Systems written by Salim Ullah and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-27 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents various novel architectures for FPGA-optimized accurate and approximate operators, their detailed accuracy and performance analysis, various techniques to model the behavior of approximate operators, and thorough application-level analysis to evaluate the impact of approximations on the final output quality and performance metrics. As multiplication is one of the most commonly used and computationally expensive operations in various error-resilient applications such as digital signal and image processing and machine learning algorithms, this book particularly focuses on this operation. The book starts by elaborating on the various sources of error resilience and opportunities available for approximations on various layers of the computation stack. It then provides a detailed description of the state-of-the-art approximate computing-related works and highlights their limitations.
