Book Modeling and Control of Static Converters for Hybrid Storage Systems

Download or read book Modeling and Control of Static Converters for Hybrid Storage Systems written by Fekik, Arezki and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-09-17 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The energy transition initiated in recent years has enabled the growing integration of renewable production into the energy mix. Microgrids make it possible to maximize the efficiency of energy transmission from source to consumer by bringing the latter together geographically and by reducing losses linked to transport. However, the lack of inertia and the micro-grid support system makes it weak, and energy storage is necessary to ensure its proper functioning. Current storage technologies do not make it possible to provide both a large capacity of energy and power at the same time. Hybrid storage is a solution that combines the advantages of several technologies and reduces their disadvantages. Modeling and Control of Static Converters for Hybrid Storage Systems covers the modeling, control theorems, and optimization techniques that solve many scientific problems for researchers in the field of power converter control for renewable energy hybrid storage and places particular emphasis on the modeling and control of static converters for hybrid storage systems. Covering topics ranging from energy storage to power generation, this book is ideal for automation engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, professionals, scientists, academicians, master's and doctoral students, and researchers in the disciplines of electrical and mechanical engineering.

Book Patient Specific Controller for an Implantable Artificial Pancreas

Download or read book Patient Specific Controller for an Implantable Artificial Pancreas written by Yvonne Ho and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-14 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thesis focuses on the control of blood glucose devices and design of implantable devices, and offers valuable insights on diabetes mellitus and related physiology and treatments. Diabetes mellitus is a widespread chronic disease in the modern world that affects millions of people around the globe. In Singapore, one in ten of the population has diabetes, and the severity of the problem has prompted the country’s prime minister to talk about the disease at the National Day Rally in 2017. Designing an artificial pancreas that can provide effective blood glucose control for individuals with diabetes is one of the most challenging engineering problems. The author reports on research into the development of an implantable artificial pancreas that can regulate blood glucose levels by delivering appropriate dosages of insulin when necessary. By sensing blood glucose and injecting insulin directly into the vein, the implantable device aims to remove delays that occur with subcutaneous blood glucose sensing and insulin delivery. Preliminary in-vitro and in-vivo experimental results suggest that the implantable device for blood glucose control could be a clinically viable alternative to pancreas transplant.

Book Adaptive Robust Control for Planar Snake Robots

Download or read book Adaptive Robust Control for Planar Snake Robots written by Joyjit Mukherjee and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows how a conventional multi-layered approach can be used to control a snake robot on a desired path while moving on a flat surface. To achieve robustness to unknown variations in surface conditions, it explores various adaptive robust control methods. The authors propose a sliding-mode control approach designed to achieve robust maneuvering for bounded uncertainty with a known upper bound. The control is modified by addition of an adaptation law to alleviate the overestimation problem of the switching gain as well as to circumvent the requirement for knowledge regarding the bounds of uncertainty. The book works toward non-conservativeness, achieving efficient tracking in the presence of slowly varying uncertainties with a specially designed framework for time-delayed control. It shows readers how to extract superior performance from their snake robots with an approach that allows robustness toward bounded time-delayed estimation errors. The book also demonstrates how the multi-layered control framework can be simplified by employing differential flatness for such a system. Finally, the mathematical model of a snake robot moving inside a uniform channel using only side-wall contact is discussed. The model has further been employed to demonstrate adaptive robust control design for such a motion. Using numerous illustrations and tables, Adaptive Robust Control for Planar Snake Robots will interest researchers, practicing engineers and postgraduate students working in the field of robotics and control systems.
