    Book Details:
  • Author : Mohammad S. Obaidat
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1441992189
  • Pages : 512 pages

Download or read book Applied System Simulation written by Mohammad S. Obaidat and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simulation and molding are efficient techniques that can aid the city and regional planners and engineers in optimizing the operation of urban systems such as traffic light control, highway toll automation, consensus building, public safety, and environmental protection. When modeling transportation systems such as freeway systems, arterial or downtown grid systems, the city planner and engineer is concerned with capturing the varied interactions between drivers, automobiles, and the infrastructure. Modeling and simulation are used to effectively optimize the design and operation of all of these urban systems. It is possible that in an urban simulation community workshop, citizens can work interactively in front of computers and be able using the click of the mouse to walk up to their own front porch, looking at the proposed shopping mall alternatives across the street from virtually any angle and proposed bridge or tunnel and see how it can reduce traffic congestion. Buildings can be scaled down or taken out, their orientation can be changed in order to check the view and orientation in order to have better site with efficient energy-conservation. The stone or brick material on a building can be replaced by colored concrete, or more trees and lampposts can be placed on the site. Such flexibility in simulation and animation allows creative ideas in the design and orientation of urban sites to be demonstrated to citizens and decision makers before final realization.

Book Risk Assessment Technologies and Transportation Storage and Disposal of Radioactive Materials

Download or read book Risk Assessment Technologies and Transportation Storage and Disposal of Radioactive Materials written by F. L. Cho and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proceedings of a symposium which was a by-product of the July 1998 Conference. Twenty-five contributions deal with technological innovations and with their implementation in such areas as estimating human error probabilities, hazard analysis, treating PRA source data, developing risk-informed service inspections, safety and reliability analyses, and environmental safety level assessment. Most of the papers in the section on risk assessment technologies deal with the combination method of probabilistic considerations and fuzzy measures on many disastrous phenomena of some risk significance. The discussions of transportation, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials address engineering and regulatory issues. Contains an author index but no subject index. Book Transportation Issues in Large U S Cities

Download or read book Transportation Issues in Large U S Cities written by National Research Council (U.S.). Transportation Research Board and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In June 1998 in Detroit, Michigan, transportation officials from the 12 largest cities in the United States, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), several state departments of transportation, metropolitan planning organizations, transit properties, and other concerned organizations came together to participate in a conference to begin to develop a better understanding of the issues and to improve transportation in large U.S. cities. One of the most important things the conference did was establish a set of research and policy issues and needs that, as they are acted on by the various stakeholders and interested parties, should improve mobility in the large urban centers of America. An important background theme throughout the conference was the central role large cities play in the economic and social health of the country. These conference proceedings contain an introduction, conference overview, the presentations by seven guest speakers, six resource papers, a list of best practices, and a list of participants.
