Download or read book Towards a Theory of Spacetime Theories written by Dennis Lehmkuhl and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2017-01-05 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This contributed volume is the result of a July 2010 workshop at the University of Wuppertal Interdisciplinary Centre for Science and Technology Studies which brought together world-wide experts from physics, philosophy and history, in order to address a set of questions first posed in the 1950s: How do we compare spacetime theories? How do we judge, objectively, which is the “best” theory? Is there even a unique answer to this question? The goal of the workshop, and of this book, is to contribute to the development of a meta-theory of spacetime theories. Such a meta-theory would reveal insights about specific spacetime theories by distilling their essential similarities and differences, deliver a framework for a class of theories that could be helpful as a blueprint to build other meta-theories, and provide a higher level viewpoint for judging which theory most accurately describes nature. But rather than drawing a map in broad strokes, the focus is on particularly rich regions in the “space of spacetime theories.” This work will be of interest to physicists, as well as philosophers and historians of science working with or interested in General Relativity and/or Space, Time and Gravitation more generally.

Download or read book Mach s Principle written by Julian B. Barbour and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1995-08-11 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a collection of scholarly articles on the Mach Principle, the impact that this theory has had since the end of the 19th century, and its role in helping Einstein formulate the doctrine of general relativity. 20th-century physics is concerned with the concepts of time, space, motion, inertia and gravity. The documentation on all of these makes this book a reference for those who are interested in the history of science and the theory of general relativity
Download or read book Lepton and Photon Interactions at High Energies written by Harry W. K. Cheung and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains contributions to the XXI International Symposium on Lepton and Photon Interactions at High Energies, held at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. It gives up-to-date reviews of all aspects of particle physics, written by leading practitioners in the field. The review nature of all the articles makes this volume more accessible to students and researchers in other fields of physics. In addition to new experimental data and advances in theory, the future directions and prospects for the field are covered.
