Book Green Controlling and Finance Theoretical Framework

This book was released on 2016-01-01 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern management for the fulfilment of sustainable development goals requires support provided by controlling, especially 'green controlling', whose core focus is on environmental and social issues. This book presents controlling within the concept of sustainable development as an element contributing to the increase of enterprise value. The authors of this monograph have explored topics in connection with environmental and social determinants, at the same time presenting their financial consequences for company business. As a result, the publication demonstrates, in the theoretical dimension, that activities undertaken in an organized and coordinated fashion with a view of sustainable development goals may and should be regarded in connection with finance.

Book Ideal Islamic Economy

Download or read book Ideal Islamic Economy written by Abbas Mirakhor and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-11 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to the vision of an economic system based completely on the Holy Qur’an—a system defined as a collection of institutions, representing rules of behavior, prescribed by Allah for humans, and the traditions of the Messenger. The authors argue that the main reason for the economic underperformance of Muslim countries and their economies has been non-compliance with the prescribed rules of behavior. Rule non-compliance has been chiefly due to the failure of Muslims to comprehend the Metaframework of the Qur’an and the Archetype Model of the Prophet Mohammad and interpret them in ways compatible with their own generation and time. Askari and Mirakhor believe these rules (institutions), properly adapted to prevailing conditions present what they consider as an ideal economic system.

Book Conceptions of Justice from Earliest History to Islam

Download or read book Conceptions of Justice from Earliest History to Islam written by Abbas Mirakhor and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the conceptions of justice from Zarathustra to Islam. The text explores the conceptions of justice by Zarathustra, Ancient Egypt, India, Mesopotamia, Noah, Abraham, and Moses. During the Axial Age (800-200BCE), the focus of justice is in India, China, and Greece. In the post-Axial age, the focus is on Christianity. The authors then turn to Islam, where justice is conceived as a system, which emerges if the Qur’anic rules are followed. This work concludes with the views of early Muslim thinkers and on how these societies deteriorated after the death of the Prophet. The monograph is ideal for those interested in the conception of justice through the ages, Islamic studies, political Islam, and issues of peace and justice.

Book Pierre Berton

Download or read book Pierre Berton written by Brian Mckillop and published by McClelland & Stewart. This book was released on 2011-06-22 with total page 826 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first ever biography of one of Canada’s best-known and most colourful personalities by an award-winning author. From his northern childhood on, it was clear that Pierre Berton (1920—2004) was different from his peers. Over the course of his eighty-four years, he would become the most famous Canadian media figure of his time, in newspapers, magazines, radio, television, and books — sometimes all at once. Berton dominated bookstore shelves for almost half a century, winning Governor General’s Awards for Klondike and The Last Spike, among many others, along with a dozen honorary degrees. Throughout it all, Berton was larger than life: full of verve and ideas, he approached everything he did with passion, humour, and an insatiable curiosity. He loved controversy and being the centre of attention, and provoked national debate on subjects as wide-ranging as religion and marijuana use. A major voice of Canadian nationalism at the dawn of globalization, he made Canadians take interest in their own history and become proud of it. But he had his critics too, and some considered him egocentric and mean-spirited. Now, with the same meticulous research and storytelling skill that earned him wide critical acclaim for The Spinster and the Prophet, Brian McKillop traces Pierre Berton’s remarkable life, with special emphasis on his early days and his rise to prominence. The result is a comprehensive, vivid portrait of the life and work of one of our most celebrated national figures.

Book Mastering Public Administration

Download or read book Mastering Public Administration written by Jos C. N. Raadschelders and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2022-07-13 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Raadschelders and Fry provide a singular investigation into the influence of 10 scholars on contemporary public administration as well as how significant their work continues to be on contemporary research. In a field that is eclectic and pragmatic, it is only fitting that the diversity of the following scholars reflects the diversity of the field of public administration: Max Weber, Frederick W. Taylor, Luther H. Gulick, Mary Parker Follett, Elton Mayo, Chester Barnard, Herbert A. Simon, Charles E. Lindblom, Elinor Ostrom, and Dwight Waldo. The impacts of their personal life experiences on scholarly thought and their ideas about science and a science of public administration are used to enhance an examination of their ideas, concepts, and theories. The writings of such a wide-ranging group of scholars are also connected by a recognition of the growth and organizational independence of the field of public administration. For the Fourth Edition, a new perspective has been included: a review of Elinor Ostrom’s work provides valuable new material on organization and decision making that is applicable in many disciplines and across many fields. In addition, substantive updates to the scholarship and analysis found in each of the chapters in the book encourage new avenues for questions, insight, and exploration in the field of public administration.

Book The Neo Palamite Synthesis of Father Dumitru St niloae

Download or read book The Neo Palamite Synthesis of Father Dumitru St niloae written by Adrian Agachi and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2013-07-29 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the contribution of Father Dumitru Stăniloae, the most renowned Romanian Orthodox theologian and one of the leading figures of the Modern Orthodox Theologians, to the interpretation and modern assessment of the writings of Gregory Palamas in a critical manner. The introduction of the book details the life and Patristic contribution of Father Dumitru Stăniloae. Although the general view is that Stăniloae was mainly a Systematic theologian, the reality is that he was also a Patristic scholar. All the chapters contained here include an analysis of different books and studies of Father Stăniloae and how he developed his Neo-Palamite Synthesis during his lifetime. Stăniloae’s results are presented in a chronological manner to allow easy identification of the different views that he held concerning the writings of Gregory Palamas during the extended period he dedicated to his research. This book is addressed to academics, theologians and persons who take an interest in the study of Eastern Orthodoxy and significant Modern Orthodox theologians and offers them an intriguing analysis of what concerns the Patristic contribution of Father Dumitru Stăniloae.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A free ebook version of this title is available through Luminos, University of California Press's Open Access publishing program. Visit www.luminosoa.org to learn more. One of the most hotly debated issues in contemporary Muslim ethics is the status of women in Islamic law. Whereas Muslim conservatives argue that gender-differentiated legal rulings reflect complementary gender roles, Muslim feminists argue that Islamic law has subordinated women and is thus in need of reform. The shared assumption on both sides, however, is that gender fundamentally shapes an individual’s legal status. Beyond the Binary explores an expansive cross section of topics in ninth- to twelfth-century Hanafi legal thought, ranging from sexual crimes to consent to marriage, to show that early Muslim jurists imagined a world built not on a binary distinction between male and female but on multiple intersecting hierarchies of gender, age, enslavement, lineage, class, and other social roles. Saadia Yacoob offers a restorative reading of Islamic law, arguing that its intersectional and relational understanding of legal personhood offers a productive space for Muslim feminists to move beyond critique and instead think with and through the Islamic legal tradition.

  • Pages : 209 pages

Download or read book Muslim Midwives written by Avner Gilʻadi and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reconstructs the role of midwives in medieval to early modern Islamic history through a careful reading of a wide range of classical and medieval Arabic sources. The author casts the midwife's social status in premodern Islam as a privileged position from which she could mediate between male authority in patriarchal society and female reproductive power within the family. This study also takes a broader historical view of midwifery in the Middle East by examining the tensions between learned medicine (male) and popular, medico-religious practices (female) from early Islam into the Ottoman period and addressing the confrontation between traditional midwifery and Western obstetrics in the first half of the nineteenth century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the second volume of his planned trilogy that will recast the history of the university in a fresh and surprising light, Adam R. Nelson aims to show how knowledge, which had been commodified starting in the late eighteenth century, became industrialized in the nineteenth century. Nelson explains how the idea of the modern university arose from a set of institutional and ideological reforms designed to foster the mass production and mass consumption of knowledge--that is, the industrialization of ideas. Fusing the history of higher education with the history of capitalism, Nelson suggests that this "marketization" of knowledge propelled the institutionalization of the university, far earlier than previously understood"--
