Book The Making of Indian Diplomacy

Download or read book The Making of Indian Diplomacy written by Deep K. Datta-Ray and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015-05-21 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diplomacy is conventionally understood as an authentic European invention which was internationalised during colonialism. For Indians, the moment of colonial liberation was a false dawn because the colonised had internalised a European logic and performed European practices. Implicit in such a reading is the enduring centrality of Europe to understanding Indian diplomacy. This Eurocentric discourse renders two possibilities impossible: that diplomacy may have Indian origins and that they offer un-theorised potentialities. Abandoning this Eurocentric model of diplomacy, Deep Datta-Ray recognises the legitimacy of independent Indian diplomacy and brings new practices He creates a conceptual space for Indian diplomacy to exist, forefronting civilisational analysis and its focus on continuities, but refraining from devaluing transformational change.

Book An Industrial Geography of Cocaine

Download or read book An Industrial Geography of Cocaine written by Christian M. Allen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-14 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Latin American cocaine trafficking organizations comprise an indigenous, globally competitive, multinational industry. Their business operations are deeply ingrained within the economic and political systems of countries throughout the region. While criminal enterprises operate in a more complex and uncertain setting than licit firms, their competitive success is determined in fundamentally similar ways. Models developed by geographers to explain the spatial behavior of licit multinational firms are profitably applied here to the operations of drug trafficking operations.

Book The Politics of the Soul

Download or read book The Politics of the Soul written by John Dickson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-16 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes the form of intellectual histories of eight major representative figures of the twentieth century, who inherited and responded to the spiritual problematic left by Nietzsche. With each figure offering very different ethical and spiritual positions, all shed light on what we mean when we talk confusedly around the topics of politics and religion. With portraits of Max Weber, Georg Lukács, T.S. Eliot, W.H. Auden, Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, George Orwell and Hannah Arendt, the author explores the "latent" content of their worldview—the moral (or immoral) intention of their intellectual project. In each of the case studies, the aim is to move toward an understanding of their ultimate values, to get at their particular picture of the soul, as well as the implications of this vision for religion and politics. As such, The Politics of the Soul will appeal to scholars of sociology and social theory, religion, philosophy, political theory and cultural studies.

This book highlights the variety of ways to examine drug use as a social problem and presents several theoretical perspectives valuable to online research.
