This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for the engineer or engineering student with little or no prior background in reliability. Its purpose is to provide the background material and guidance necessary to comprehend and carry out all the tasks associated with a reliability program from specification generation to final demonstration of reliability achieved. Most available texts on reliability concentrate on the mathematics and statistics used for reliability analysis, evaluation, and demonstration. They are more often suited more for the professional with a heavier mathematical background that most engineers have, and more often than not, ignore or pay short-shrift to basic engineering design and organizational efforts associated with a reliability program. A reliability engineer must be familiar with both the mathematics and engineering aspects of a reliability program. This text: 1. Describes the mathematics needed for reliability analysis, evaluation, and demonstration commensurate with an engineer's background. 2. Provides background material, guidance, and references necessary to the structure and implementation of a reliability program including: • identification of the reliability standards in most common use • how to generate and respond to a reliability specification • how reliability can be increased • the tasks which make up a reliability program and how to judge the need and scope of each; how each is commonly performed; caution and comments about their application.

Download or read book Environmental Testing Techniques for Electronics and Materials written by Geoffrey W. A. Dummer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Testing Techniques for Electronics and Materials reviews environmental testing techniques for evaluating the performance of electronic equipment, components, and materials. Environmental test planning, test methods, and instrumentation are described, along with the general environmental conditions under which equipment must operate. This book is comprised of 15 chapters and begins by explaining why environmental testing is necessary and describing the environment in which electronics must operate. The next chapter considers how an environmental test plan is designed; the methods for the environmental testing of components and materials; instrumentation and control of test chambers; shock and vibration test instrumentation; and requirements for specification writing. The reader is then introduced to factors that might affect the reliability of equipment, including high humidity environment; galvanic corrosion problems; high- and low-temperature environments; mechanical and associated hazards; transport hazards; and long-term storage. Problems posed by high altitude and space environments, nuclear radiation, and acoustic noise are also discussed. The final chapter is devoted to environmental protection techniques and looks at the effects of climatic environments on radio interference as well as the effects of the environment on the human operator. This monograph will be of value to materials scientists and electronics engineers as well as those engaged in the design, development, and production of professional and military equipment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this handbook is to provide a text and reference material in System Analysis and Cost-Effectiveness. It is intended for those technical, scientific, management, and administrative personnel who are responsible for preparing information, making decisions or reviewing decisions made by others regarding life-cycle cost, system effectiveness (availability, dependability, capability), or technical feasibility of a system or equipment at any phase in its life cycle. The handbook consists of four chapters: (1) an introduction to the concept of system analysis and cost-effectiveness; (2) a basic framework, or general methodological approach, for conducting and reviewing cost-effectiveness or system analysis studies; (3) a set of techniques (linear programming, queueing theory, simulation, etc.) that can be used for performing cost-effectiveness and system analysis studies; and (4) a review of the basic mathematical and statistical concepts that underlie the scientific approach in the system analysis/cost-effectiveness process.
