Book The Whiplash Encyclopedia

Download or read book The Whiplash Encyclopedia written by Robert Ferrari and published by Jones & Bartlett Learning. This book was released on 2006 with total page 786 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the second edition of The Whiplash Encyclopedia, Robert Ferrari revisits the notion that whiplash is an example of illness induced by society, in general, and by physicians in particular. The second edition takes the work out of understanding all the different dimensions of whiplash, be it why some people get chronic neck pain and others do not, what causes jaw pain, what therapies work and which do not, how we can understand the effect that psychosocial factors have on recovery, what effect litigation and insurance systems have on recovery, and many other topics. The Whiplash Encyclopedia leaves no topic on whiplash uncovered, and can be used in any medicolegal practice. The next time you have a question about whiplash, the answer is likely to be found in The Whiplash Encyclopedia. The Whiplash Encyclopedia, Second Edition explores new theories being heralded to explain chronic whiplash; discusses Central Sensitization; and includes a new chapter in whiplash mythology. In addition, it expands on the knowledge of what causes (and what does not cause) the many neurological and cognitive symptoms reported by whiplash patients. The second edition also investigates the Whiplash Cultures and countries where chronic whiplash is epidemic and examines those cultures by laying them next to countries that, despite having motor vehicle collisions as frequently as elsewhere in the world, and frequently having physicians diagnose acute whiplash, rarely or uncommonly has anyone taking the stage as chronic whiplash characters.

Book excerpt: Alzheimer's disease is becoming more common in Europe, with significant human, ethical, economic and professional challenges to society. This book examines clinical practice and service delivery, and identifies policy issues that could lead to improved quality of life for sufferers and carers. The book: • Describes the differing needs of sufferers and carers, and how they can be met by a co-ordinated approach to policy and implementation • Outlines the particular challenges that healthcare policy makers face for this disease • Shows how better models of service provision can be developed and describes best practice models • Discusses the lessons to be learnt from various European pioneering projects This is a concise and practical guide for clinical specialists including psychiatrists, geriatricians, neurologists, public health doctors, nurses, and policy makers and shapers in health and social services.

This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 1002 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers contained in this volume reflect the ingenuity and originality of experimental work in the areas of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamics. The contributors are drawn from 27 countries which indicates how well the worldwide scientific community is networked. The papers cover a broad spectrum from the experimental investigation of complex fundamental physical phenomena to the study of practical devices and applications. A uniform outline and method of presentation has been used for each paper.

Book Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering 2

Download or read book Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering 2 written by J. Middleton and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-09-11 with total page 856 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contains papers presented at the Third International Symposium on Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering (1997), which provide evidence that computer-based models, and in particular numerical methods, are becoming essential tools for the solution of many problems encountered in the field of biomedical engineering. The range of subject areas presented include the modeling of hip and knee joint replacements, assessment of fatigue damage in cemented hip prostheses, nonlinear analysis of hard and soft tissue, methods for the simulation of bone adaptation, bone reconstruction using implants, and computational techniques to model human impact. Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering also details the application of numerical techniques applied to orthodontic treatment together with introducing new methods for modeling and assessing the behavior of dental implants, adhesives, and restorations. Book Catalysis and Zeolites

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jens Weitkamp
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-04-17
  • ISBN : 3662037645
  • Pages : 582 pages

Download or read book Catalysis and Zeolites written by Jens Weitkamp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zeolites occur in nature and have been known for almost 250 years as alumino silicate minerals. Examples are clinoptilolite, mordenite, offretite, ferrierite, erionite and chabazite. Today, most of these and many other zeolites are of great interest in heterogeneous catalysis, yet their naturally occurring forms are of limited value as catalysts because nature has not optimized their properties for catalytic applications and the naturally occurring zeolites almost always contain undesired impurity phases. It was only with the advent of synthetic zeolites in the period from about 1948 to 1959 (thanks to the pioneering work of R. M. Barrer and R. M. Milton) that this class of porous materials began to playa role in catalysis. A landmark event was the introduction of synthetic faujasites (zeolite X at first, zeolite Y slightly later) as catalysts in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) of heavy petroleum distillates in 1962, one of the most important chemical processes with a worldwide capacity of the order of 500 million t/a. Compared to the previously used amorphous silica-alumina catalysts, the zeolites were not only orders of magnitude more active, which enabled drastic process engineering improvements to be made, but they also brought about a significant increase in the yield of the target product, viz. motor gasoline. With the huge FCC capacity worldwide, the added value of this yield enhancement is of the order of 10 billion US $ per year.
