Book Interplanetary Matter a Bibliography 1963 Supplement

Download or read book Interplanetary Matter a Bibliography 1963 Supplement written by L. R. Magnolia and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bibliography consists of 662 annotated references on asteroids, comets, meteorites, meteors, micrometeorites, noctilucent clouds, nonterrestrial dust, origin of the solar system, tektites, the zodiacal light, and related subjects. The majority of the items are those published in 1963 as well as those released in 1963 by DDC and NASA. A few earlier items not listed in previous editions of this bibliography are included. The abstracts are primarily those written by the individual authors. If an author does not include an abstract with his paper, one is prepared by the compiler from the text of the report using the author's words; if this is impractical, a brief summary statement or table of contents is provided. Book The Orion Complex A Case Study of Interstellar Matter

Download or read book The Orion Complex A Case Study of Interstellar Matter written by C.D. Goudis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work deals with some of the most typical complexes of interstellar matter and is intended to serve both as a reference book for the specialist and as an introduction for the newcomer to the field. It is hoped to meet the first aim by presenting a holistic view of the well studied complexes in Orion, built on information derived from various branches of modern Astrophysics. The wealth of published data is presented in the form of photographs, contour maps, diagrams and numerous heavily annotated tables. The second aim is pursued by providing an outline of the complexes, the physical problems associated with them, the empirical models describing their be haviour and, in addition, by including an extended Appendix section summarizing the numerous methods employed to derive the physical parameters of an H II region and the dust and molecular cloud physically associated with it. The book consists of five chapters and four Appendix sections. Chapter 1, which is concerned with the large scale view of the Orion region, outlines the morphology of the area and examines in particular the nature of Barnard's Loop and the associated filamentary structure in addition to the origin of the I Orion OB association. Chapter 2 focuses on the ionized gas of the Orion H II/molecular complex i. e.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Pages: 37. Chapters: Corona, Dark energy, Dark matter, Diffuse interstellar band, Extraterrestrial life, M-sigma relation, Ultra-high-energy cosmic ray, Unidentified Infrared Emission. Excerpt: In astronomy and cosmology, dark matter is a type of matter hypothesized to account for a large part of the total mass in the universe. Dark matter cannot be seen directly with telescopes; evidently it neither emits nor absorbs light or other electromagnetic radiation at any significant level. Instead, its existence and properties are inferred from its gravitational effects on visible matter, radiation, and the large-scale structure of the universe. According to the Planck mission team, and based on the standard model of cosmology, the total mass-energy of the universe contains 4.9% ordinary matter, 26.8% dark matter and 68.3% dark energy. Thus, dark matter is estimated to constitute 84.5% of the total matter in the universe. Dark matter came to the attention of astrophysicists due to discrepancies between the mass of large astronomical objects determined from their gravitational effects, and the mass calculated from the "luminous matter" they contain: stars, gas and dust. It was first postulated by Jan Oort in 1932 to account for the orbital velocities of stars in the Milky Way, and by Fritz Zwicky in 1933 to account for evidence of "missing mass" in the orbital velocities of galaxies in clusters. Subsequently, many other observations have indicated the presence of dark matter in the universe, including the rotational speeds of galaxies by Vera Rubin, in the 1960s-1970s, gravitational lensing of background objects by galaxy clusters such as the Bullet Cluster, the temperature distribution of hot gas in galaxies and clusters of galaxies, and more recently the pattern of anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background. According to consensus...
