Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dry-direct seeded rice (DSR) is an emerging resource-conserving and climate-smart production technologies in the changing climatic condition and the areas where the key resources such as water and labor are the major limiting factors to rice cultivation. The success of DSR largely depends on its proper early establishment and judicious weed management. A uniform stand of adequate rice plants is critical to achieving high yields, therefore seed rate and sowing date are very important for DSR. Due to different methods of land preparation between DSR and transplanted rice, the soil conditions are different in these systems, therefore, nitrogen fertilizer management is very important to DSR. Chemical weed management is a must in DSR to reduce weed management cost, however, considering the negative effect of herbicide on the environment and developing of herbicide resistance biotypes, weed management needs an integrated approach. Inside this book, you'll find the effect of sowing time and seeding rate for the establishment of DSR and the best fertilizer and weed management approaches for its sustainable production.

Book Weed Management in Direct Seeded Rice Under Cambodian Conditions

Download or read book Weed Management in Direct Seeded Rice Under Cambodian Conditions written by Pao Srean and published by Eliva Press. This book was released on 2023-06-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Cambodia, the increasing scarcity of rural labour is pushing farmers to find ways to manage large rice fields with meagre resources and continuously emerging crop management constraints, especially for weed control. Out-migration of rural labour has resulted in a shift from manual transplanting to direct-seeded rice (DSR) and this has changed the spectrum of weed species and made weed management more difficult in rice. This publication describes important weeds of rice in Cambodia, weed seed contamination in rice seed for sowing, weedy rice contamination in paddy and options for Integrated Weed Management (IWM). The elements of IWM include: cultural practices; stale seedbed; crop establishment methods; crop rotation; water management and chemical weed control. Modernisation of weed management in Cambodia, is constrained by a lack of uptake of existing published research and failure to incorporate results of new research into extension media. Multiple conflicting messages emanating from Donors and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) also confuse farmers and delay adoption of good agricultural practices (GAP). Furthermore, in the absence of a functioning public extension service, Cambodian farmers are locked into pesticide-reliant practices and limited use of alternatives. Pesticide manufacturers, distributors and local sellers reinforce pesticide-based recommendations as the dominant technology. In Cambodia, weed research priorities include development of: management practices to reduce weed seed banks in direct-seeded rice fields; integrated weed management strategies to delay or avoid development of herbicide resistance in major weed species in direct-seeded rice; options for the integrated management of weedy rice (Oryza sativa f. spontanea) in direct-seeded rice; and comparison of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with ground application for efficacy and safety of herbicide application in rice.

Book Effect of Sowing Date and Weed Control Methods on Direct Seeded Rice

Download or read book Effect of Sowing Date and Weed Control Methods on Direct Seeded Rice written by Devendra Mandal and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the most important crop of south east Asia popularly referred to as the rice bowl of the world. India has the largest area under rice in the world it ranks second in production falling far behind China, which has production of about 200 m tons. The reason for very low productivity in Bihar centres round the fact that rice cultivation in Bihar is mostly rain dependent. Both raising nursery and transplanting seedlings are on the mercy of monsoon, which is extremely erratic in onset, distribution, intensity and cessation. Invariably the seedlings overgrow in the nursery awaiting for rains adequate to perform puddling operations. As a result of use of overgrown seedlings, at times, the crop starts flowering soon after flowering reducing the yield tremendously. Some of the times it becomes even difficult to raise seedlings due to very delayed and erratic monsoon.A very large number of herbicides are there which have been observed to have effective control of weeds in direct seeded rice. However, selecting a particular herbicide or its combination with mechanical weed management require thorough probe.

Book Non chemical Weed Management in Rice Oryza Sativa L

Download or read book Non chemical Weed Management in Rice Oryza Sativa L written by Muhammad Yasir Riaz and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A field trial to compare the non-chemical weed management approach in dry direct seeded fine rice with the chemical methods was conducted at the Agronomic Research Farm, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad during Kharif, 2009. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications. Results revealed that manual weeding recorded maximum (99 %) reduction in total weed density and dry weight. Nominee 100SC suppressed weed density and dry weight by >75% over control. Among non-chemical weed management strategies, soil incorporation of sorghum residues at 8 t ha-1 accounted for 52 and 58 % reduction in above said weed attributes. Maximum yield (4.17 t ha-1) was recorded by manual weeding. Manual weeding gave highest net benefits (Rs. 127217 ha-1), while Nominee 100SC scored maximum (23076 %) marginal rate of return.
