(3) Time Domain Solutions for Axial Pressures in Focused Sound Beams is a theoretical comparison of three different models. (4) Focusing of Sound with an Ellipsoidal Mirror is a theoretical study of the reflected field, typically short pulses, along the axis of the mirror. (5) Modeling Finite Amplitude, Propagation in Waveguides with a Nonlinear Parabolic Wave Equation is a new project that involves both theory and experiment.

Book Problems in Nonlinear Acoustics Parametric Receiving Arrays Focused Finite Amplitude Sound Noncollinear Tone Noise Interactions

Download or read book Problems in Nonlinear Acoustics Parametric Receiving Arrays Focused Finite Amplitude Sound Noncollinear Tone Noise Interactions written by Mark F. Hamilton and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three projects are discussed in this report. (1) Parametric Receiving Arrays. This project is a theoretical investigation into the use of a parametric receiving array for directive measurements of noise radiated by ships in reverberant environments. The analysis is based on a Gaussian beam model that takes nearfield diffraction into account. The scattering of sound is also investigated. (2) Focused Finite Amplitude Sound. A numerical solution is used to investigate the combined effects of nonlinearity, diffraction, and absorption on sound that propagates through a focal region. The analysis yields time waveforms, axial propagation curves, spectral power distributions, and beams patterns. (3) Noncollinear Tone-Noise Interactions. The noncollinear interaction of a pure tone and a band of noise that propagate in different modes of a rectangular duct is investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Keywords: Nonlinear acoustics; Parametric array; Scattering of sound by sound; Focused sound; Waveguide; Noise.

Book Problems in Nonlinear Acoustics Parametric Receiving Arrays Focused Finite Amplitude Sound and Dispersive Nonlinear Interactions

Download or read book Problems in Nonlinear Acoustics Parametric Receiving Arrays Focused Finite Amplitude Sound and Dispersive Nonlinear Interactions written by Mark F. Hamilton and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contract N00014-85-K-0708 provides for basic research on nonlinear acoustics. The three projects currently supported by the contract are as follows: 1) Use of a Parametric Receiving Array to Measure Ship Noise; 2) Focused Finite Amplitude Sound; and 3) Dispersive Nonlinear Wave Interactions in a Duct. The first project is the primary research effort supported by the contract, and the investigation is predominantly theoretical. The second involves computational analysis, the third experimental. Each project is discussed separately in the following sections. Keywords: Focused sound; Multipath; Hydrophones; Acoustic radiation.

Book Nonlinear Acoustics Reflection and Refraction Scattering of Sound by Sound and Periodic Media

Download or read book Nonlinear Acoustics Reflection and Refraction Scattering of Sound by Sound and Periodic Media written by David T. Blackstock and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on three topics in nonlinear acoustics is described. 1. Reflection and refraction at a plane interface between two fluids. Previously a modified form of Snell's law was derived; theoretical work is underway to investigate assumptions on which the derivation was based. 2. Scattering of sound by sound. Work on a single beam experiment and a crossed-beams experiment is in progress. 3. Propagation in periodic media. An experiment is being designed to measure finite-amplitude distortion in a plane wave tube loaded periodically with reactive branch elements. Other work, on noncollinear interaction and on biomedical ultrasonics, is described briefly. Two journal articles, five oral papers, and one technical report are listed. Keywords: Nonlinear acoustics; Periodic media; Scattering of sound by sound; Noncollinear interaction; Refraction; Reflection; Waveguide; Dispersion.
