Book Production Planning Modeling and Control of Food Industry Processes

Download or read book Production Planning Modeling and Control of Food Industry Processes written by Pablo Cano Marchal and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-16 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a new approach to the control of food transformation processes, emphasizing the advantage of considering the system as a multivariable one, and taking a holistic approach to the decision-making process in the plant, considering not only the technical but also the economic implications of these decisions. In addition, it presents a hierarchical structure for the global control of the plant, and includes appropriate techniques for each of the control layers. The book addresses the challenges of modeling food transformation processes, using both traditional system-identification techniques and, where these prove impractical, models based on expert knowledge and using fuzzy systems. The construction of optimal controllers for each of these types of models is also discussed, as a means to close a feedback loop on the higher-level outputs of the process. Finally, the problem of production planning is covered from two standpoints: the traditional batch-sizing problem, and the planning of production throughout the season. Systematic season-wide production planning is built upon the models constructed for the control of the plant, and incorporates market- and business-specific information. Examples based on the processing of various foodstuffs help to illustrate the text throughout, while the book’s closing chapter presents a case study on advances in the processing of olive oil. Given its scope, the book will primarily be of interest to two groups of readers: food engineering practitioners and students, who are familiar with the characteristics of food processes but have little or no background in control engineering; and control engineering researchers, students and practitioners, whose situation is just the opposite, and who wish to learn more about food engineering and its specific challenges for control. Advances in Industrial Control reports and encourages the transfer of technology in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of new work in all aspects of industrial control.

Book Innovation in Power Control and Optimization Emerging Energy Technologies

Download or read book Innovation in Power Control and Optimization Emerging Energy Technologies written by Vasant, Pandian and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2011-09-30 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing a system that can cope with variations of system or control parameters, measurement uncertainty, and complex, multi-objective optimization criteria is a frequent problem in engineering systems design. The need for a priori knowledge and the inability to learn from past experience make the design of robust, adaptive, and stable systems a difficult task. Innovation in Power, Control, and Optimization: Emerging Energy Technologies unites research on the development of techniques and methodologies to improve the performance of power systems, energy planning and environments, controllers and robotics, operation research, and modern artificial computational intelligent techniques. Containing research on power engineering, control systems, and methods of optimization, this book is written for professionals who want to improve their understanding of strategic developments in the area of power, control, and optimization.

Book Guide to Industrial Analytics

Download or read book Guide to Industrial Analytics written by Richard Hill and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook describes the hands-on application of data science techniques to solve problems in manufacturing and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Monitoring and managing operational performance is a crucial activity for industrial and business organisations. The emergence of low-cost, accessible computing and storage, through Industrial Digital Technologies (IDT) and Industry 4.0, has generated considerable interest in innovative approaches to doing more with data. Data science, predictive analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and general approaches to modelling, simulating and visualising industrial systems have often been considered topics only for research labs and academic departments. This textbook debunks the mystique around applied data science and shows readers, using tutorial-style explanations and real-life case studies, how practitioners can develop their own understanding of performance to achieve tangible business improvements. All exercises can be completed with commonly available tools, many of which are free to install and use. Readers will learn how to use tools to investigate, diagnose, propose and implement analytics solutions that will provide explainable results to deliver digital transformation.

Book The Seven Inconvenient Truths of Business Strategy

Download or read book The Seven Inconvenient Truths of Business Strategy written by Paul Hunter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most damning charge frequently levelled at strategic planning is that of irrelevance. Paul Hunter’s The Seven Inconvenient Truths of Business Strategy is an antidote to conventional methods of strategic management that are renowned for being sporadic, biased, poorly articulated and rarely implemented with total success. Drawing on a framework that encapsulates a collection of definitive principles, the author offers a structure to strategy, as a system, and in a format that is representative of a literal reinvention of strategic planning overall; an indicator and explanation of the strategic tools that you already know, but in a more comprehensive format. Paul also provides insights into the collaborative techniques for carrying out the process successfully: formation, evaluation, alignment and implementation. Other topics covered include governance, communication, leadership, learning, teamwork, transformation and the treatment of strategic risk; at the level of a profession. An extended case study, based on the story of Cadbury, the chocolate maker, is woven through the chapters to provide a vibrant illustration of the value and application of the various techniques and processes described. Organisations of all kinds have never needed strategic planning quite as much as they need it today in an environment of increasing complexity, uncertainty and continual change. The Seven Inconvenient Truths of Business Strategy will help you ensure that your strategic process is always effective, visible, professional, relevant and timely.
