Download or read book Quelques probl mes aux limites pour les quations de Navier Stokes written by Vincent Girinon and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 1998 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NOUS ETUDIONS QUELQUES PROBLEMES MATHEMATIQUES POSES PAR LA MODELISATION D'ECOULEMENTS DE FLUIDES VISQUEUX INCOMPRESSIBLES AUTOUR D'UN OBSTACLE BORNE, DANS L'APPROXIMATION STATIONNAIRE ET POUR UN FLUIDE AU REPOS A L'INFINI.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Advances in Mathematical Fluid Mechanics

Download or read book Advances in Mathematical Fluid Mechanics written by Josef Malek and published by Springer. This book was released on 2000-10-04 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of six survey contributions that are focused on several open problems of theoretical fluid mechanics both for incompressible and compressible fluids. The first article "Viscous flows in Besov spaces" by M area Cannone ad dresses the problem of global existence of a uniquely defined solution to the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible fluids. Among others the following topics are intensively treated in this contribution: (i) the systematic description of the spaces of initial conditions for which there exists a unique local (in time) solution or a unique global solution for small data, (ii) the existence of forward self-similar solutions, (iii) the relation of these results to Leray's weak solutions and backward self-similar solutions, (iv) the extension of the results to further nonlinear evolutionary problems. Particular attention is paid to the critical spaces that are invariant under the self-similar transform. For sufficiently small Reynolds numbers, the conditional stability in the sense of Lyapunov is also studied. The article is endowed by interesting personal and historical comments and an exhaustive bibliography that gives the reader a complete picture about available literature. The papers "The dynamical system approach to the Navier-Stokes equa tions for compressible fluids" by Eduard Feireisl, and "Asymptotic problems and compressible-incompressible limits" by Nader Masmoudi are devoted to the global (in time) properties of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equa and three tions for compressible fluids. The global (in time) analysis of two dimensional motions of compressible fluids were left open for many years.

Book Elliptic Boundary Problems for Dirac Operators

Download or read book Elliptic Boundary Problems for Dirac Operators written by Bernhelm Booß-Bavnbek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elliptic boundary problems have enjoyed interest recently, espe cially among C* -algebraists and mathematical physicists who want to understand single aspects of the theory, such as the behaviour of Dirac operators and their solution spaces in the case of a non-trivial boundary. However, the theory of elliptic boundary problems by far has not achieved the same status as the theory of elliptic operators on closed (compact, without boundary) manifolds. The latter is nowadays rec ognized by many as a mathematical work of art and a very useful technical tool with applications to a multitude of mathematical con texts. Therefore, the theory of elliptic operators on closed manifolds is well-known not only to a small group of specialists in partial dif ferential equations, but also to a broad range of researchers who have specialized in other mathematical topics. Why is the theory of elliptic boundary problems, compared to that on closed manifolds, still lagging behind in popularity? Admittedly, from an analytical point of view, it is a jigsaw puzzle which has more pieces than does the elliptic theory on closed manifolds. But that is not the only reason.

Book Fluid Dynamics of Viscoelastic Liquids

Download or read book Fluid Dynamics of Viscoelastic Liquids written by Daniel D. Joseph and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 772 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about two special topics in rheological fluid mechanics: the elasticity of liquids and asymptotic theories of constitutive models. The major emphasis of the book is on the mathematical and physical consequences of the elasticity of liquids; seventeen of twenty chapters are devoted to this. Constitutive models which are instantaneously elastic can lead to some hyperbolicity in the dynamics of flow, waves of vorticity into rest (known as shear waves), to shock waves of vorticity or velocity, to steady flows of transonic type or to short wave instabilities which lead to ill-posed problems. Other kinds of models, with small Newtonian viscosities, give rise to perturbed instantaneous elasticity, associated with smoothing of discontinuities as in gas dynamics. There is no doubt that liquids will respond like elastic solids to impulses which are very rapid compared to the time it takes for the molecular order associated with short range forces in the liquid, to relax. After this, all liquids look viscous with signals propagating by diffusion rather than by waves. For small molecules this time of relaxation is estimated as lQ-13 to 10-10 seconds depending on the fluids. Waves associated with such liquids move with speeds of 1 QS cm/s, or even faster. For engineering applications the instantaneous elasticity of these fluids is of little interest; the practical dynamics is governed by diffusion, ·say, by the Navier-Stokes equations. On the other hand, there are other liquids which are known to have much longer times of relaxation.

Download or read book Physics on Manifolds written by M. Flato and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Colloquium "Analysis, Manifolds and Physics" organized in honour of Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat by her friends, collaborators and former students, on June 3, 4 and 5, 1992 in Paris. Its title accurately reflects the domains to which Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat has made essential contributions. Since the rise of General Relativity, the geometry of Manifolds has become a non-trivial part of space-time physics. At the same time, Functional Analysis has been of enormous importance in Quantum Mechanics, and Quantum Field Theory. Its role becomes decisive when one considers the global behaviour of solutions of differential systems on manifolds. In this sense, General Relativity is an exceptional theory in which the solutions of a highly non-linear system of partial differential equations define by themselves the very manifold on which they are supposed to exist. This is why a solution of Einstein's equations cannot be physically interpreted before its global behaviour is known, taking into account the entire hypothetical underlying manifold. In her youth, Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat contributed in a spectacular way to this domain stretching between physics and mathematics, when she gave the proof of the existence of solutions to Einstein's equations on differential manifolds of a quite general type. The methods she created have been worked out by the French school of mathematics, principally by Jean Leray. Her first proof of the local existence and uniqueness of solutions of Einstein's equations inspired Jean Leray's theory of general hyperbolic systems.

Book Ginzburg Landau Vortices

Download or read book Ginzburg Landau Vortices written by Fabrice Bethuel and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2017-09-21 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with the study in two dimensions of stationary solutions of uɛ of a complex valued Ginzburg-Landau equation involving a small parameter ɛ. Such problems are related to questions occurring in physics, e.g., phase transition phenomena in superconductors and superfluids. The parameter ɛ has a dimension of a length which is usually small. Thus, it is of great interest to study the asymptotics as ɛ tends to zero. One of the main results asserts that the limit u-star of minimizers uɛ exists. Moreover, u-star is smooth except at a finite number of points called defects or vortices in physics. The number of these defects is exactly the Brouwer degree – or winding number – of the boundary condition. Each singularity has degree one – or as physicists would say, vortices are quantized. The material presented in this book covers mostly original results by the authors. It assumes a moderate knowledge of nonlinear functional analysis, partial differential equations, and complex functions. This book is designed for researchers and graduate students alike, and can be used as a one-semester text. The present softcover reprint is designed to make this classic text available to a wider audience.
