Book Probability Theory Function Theory Mechanics

Download or read book Probability Theory Function Theory Mechanics written by I︠U︡riĭ Vasilʹevich Prokhorov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1990 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a translation of the fifth and final volume in a special cycle of publications in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Academy of Sciences in the USSR. The purpose of the special cycle was to present surveys of work on certain important trends and problems pursued at the Institute. Because the choice of the form and character of the surveys were left up to the authors, the surveys do not necessarily form a comprehensive overview, but rather represent the authors' perspectives on the important developments.

Book Selected Works of A N Kolmogorov

Download or read book Selected Works of A N Kolmogorov written by A.N. Shiryayev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1992-02-29 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The creative work of Andrei N. Kolmogorov is exceptionally wide-ranging. In his studies on trigonometric and orthogonal series, the theory of measure and integral, mathematical logic, approximation theory, geometry, topology, functional analysis, classical mechanics, ergodic theory, superposition of functions, and in formation theory, he solved many conceptual and fundamental problems and posed new questions which gave rise to a great deal of further research. Kolmogorov is one of the founders of the Soviet school of probability theory, mathematical statistics, and the theory of turbulence. In these areas he obtained a number of central results, with many applications to mechanics, geophysics, linguistics and biology, among other subjects. This edition includes Kolmogorov's most important papers on mathematics and the natural sciences. It does not include his philosophical and pedagogical studies, his articles written for the "Bolshaya Sovetskaya Entsiklopediya", his papers on prosody and applications of mathematics or his publications on general questions. The material of this edition was selected and compiled by Kolmogorov himself. The first volume consists of papers on mathematics and also on turbulence and classical mechanics. The second volume is devoted to probability theory and mathematical statistics. The focus of the third volume is on information theory and the theory of algorithms.

    Book Details:
  • Author : Stanley P. Gudder
  • Publisher : Academic Press

Download or read book Quantum Probability written by Stanley P. Gudder and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum probability is a subtle blend of quantum mechanics and classical probability theory. Its important ideas can be traced to the pioneering work of Richard Feynman in his path integral formalism.Only recently have the concept and ideas of quantum probability been presented in a rigorous axiomatic framework, and this book provides a coherent and comprehensive exposition of this approach. It gives a unified treatment of operational statistics, generalized measure theory and the path integral formalism that can only be found in scattered research articles. The first two chapters survey the necessary background in quantum mechanics and probability theory and therefore the book is fairly self-contained, assuming only an elementary knowledge of linear operators in Hilbert space.

Book Functional Equations in Probability Theory

Download or read book Functional Equations in Probability Theory written by Ramachandran Balasubrahmanyan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Functional Equations in Probability Theory deals with functional equations in probability theory and covers topics ranging from the integrated Cauchy functional equation (ICFE) to stable and semistable laws. The problem of identical distribution of two linear forms in independent and identically distributed random variables is also considered, with particular reference to the context of the common distribution of these random variables being normal. Comprised of nine chapters, this volume begins with an introduction to Cauchy functional equations as well as distribution functions and characteristic functions. The discussion then turns to the nonnegative solutions of ICFE on R+; ICFE with a signed measure; and application of ICFE to the characterization of probability distributions. Subsequent chapters focus on stable and semistable laws; ICFE with error terms on R+; independent/identically distributed linear forms and the normal laws; and distribution problems relating to the arc-sine, the normal, and the chi-square laws. The final chapter is devoted to ICFE on semigroups of Rd. This book should be of interest to mathematicians and statisticians.

Book Probability Theory

    Book Details:
  • Author : Yakov G. Sinai
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-03-09
  • ISBN : 366202845X
  • Pages : 148 pages

Download or read book Probability Theory written by Yakov G. Sinai and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sinai's book leads the student through the standard material for ProbabilityTheory, with stops along the way for interesting topics such as statistical mechanics, not usually included in a book for beginners. The first part of the book covers discrete random variables, using the same approach, basedon Kolmogorov's axioms for probability, used later for the general case. The text is divided into sixteen lectures, each covering a major topic. The introductory notions and classical results are included, of course: random variables, the central limit theorem, the law of large numbers, conditional probability, random walks, etc. Sinai's style is accessible and clear, with interesting examples to accompany new ideas. Besides statistical mechanics, other interesting, less common topics found in the book are: percolation, the concept of stability in the central limit theorem and the study of probability of large deviations. Little more than a standard undergraduate course in analysis is assumed of the reader. Notions from measure theory and Lebesgue integration are introduced in the second half of the text. The book is suitable for second or third year students in mathematics, physics or other natural sciences. It could also be usedby more advanced readers who want to learn the mathematics of probability theory and some of its applications in statistical physics.

Book Probability and Schr dinger s Mechanics

Download or read book Probability and Schr dinger s Mechanics written by David B. Cook and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses some of the problems of interpreting Schr”dinger's mechanics ? the most complete and explicit theory falling under the umbrella of ?quantum theory?. The outlook is materialist (?realist?) and stresses the development of Schr”dinger's mechanics from classical theories and its close connections with (particularly) the Hamilton?Jacobi theory. Emphasis is placed on the concepts and use of the modern objective (measure-theoretic) probability theory. The work is free from any mention of the bearing of Schr”dinger's mechanics on God, his alleged mind or, indeed, minds at all. The author has taken the na‹ve view that this mechanics is about the structure and dynamics of atomic and sub-atomic systems since he has been unable to trace any references to minds, consciousness or measurements in the foundations of the theory.

Download or read book Probability in Physics written by Yemima Ben-Menahem and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-25 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the role and meaning of probability in physical theory, in particular in two of the most successful theories of our age, quantum physics and statistical mechanics? Laws once conceived as universal and deterministic, such as Newton‘s laws of motion, or the second law of thermodynamics, are replaced in these theories by inherently probabilistic laws. This collection of essays by some of the world‘s foremost experts presents an in-depth analysis of the meaning of probability in contemporary physics. Among the questions addressed are: How are probabilities defined? Are they objective or subjective? What is their explanatory value? What are the differences between quantum and classical probabilities? The result is an informative and thought-provoking book for the scientifically inquisitive.
