  • ISBN : 0080918484
  • Pages : 331 pages

Download or read book Quantum Probability written by Stanley P. Gudder and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum probability is a subtle blend of quantum mechanics and classical probability theory. Its important ideas can be traced to the pioneering work of Richard Feynman in his path integral formalism. Only recently have the concept and ideas of quantum probability been presented in a rigorous axiomatic framework, and this book provides a coherent and comprehensive exposition of this approach. It gives a unified treatment of operational statistics, generalized measure theory and the path integral formalism that can only be found in scattered research articles. The first two chapters survey the necessary background in quantum mechanics and probability theory and therefore the book is fairly self-contained, assuming only an elementary knowledge of linear operators in Hilbert space.

Book Statistical and Fuzzy Approaches to Data Processing with Applications to Econometrics and Other Areas

Download or read book Statistical and Fuzzy Approaches to Data Processing with Applications to Econometrics and Other Areas written by Vladik Kreinovich and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-19 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mainly focusing on processing uncertainty, this book presents state-of-the-art techniques and demonstrates their use in applications to econometrics and other areas. Processing uncertainty is essential, considering that computers – which help us understand real-life processes and make better decisions based on that understanding – get their information from measurements or from expert estimates, neither of which is ever 100% accurate. Measurement uncertainty is usually described using probabilistic techniques, while uncertainty in expert estimates is often described using fuzzy techniques. Therefore, it is important to master both techniques for processing data. This book is highly recommended for researchers and students interested in the latest results and challenges in uncertainty, as well as practitioners who want to learn how to use the corresponding state-of-the-art techniques.

Download or read book Real and Stochastic Analysis written by M. M. Rao and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As in the case of the two previous volumes published in 1986 and 1997, the purpose of this monograph is to focus the interplay between real (functional) analysis and stochastic analysis show their mutual benefits and advance the subjects. The presentation of each article, given as a chapter, is in a research-expository style covering the respective topics in depth. In fact, most of the details are included so that each work is essentially self contained and thus will be of use both for advanced graduate students and other researchers interested in the areas considered. Moreover, numerous new problems for future research are suggested in each chapter. The presented articles contain a substantial number of new results as well as unified and simplified accounts of previously known ones. A large part of the material cov ered is on stochastic differential equations on various structures, together with some applications. Although Brownian motion plays a key role, (semi-) martingale theory is important for a considerable extent. Moreover, noncommutative analysis and probabil ity have a prominent role in some chapters, with new ideas and results. A more detailed outline of each of the articles appears in the introduction and outline to assist readers in selecting and starting their work. All chapters have been reviewed.

Book Logic and Probability in Quantum Mechanics

Download or read book Logic and Probability in Quantum Mechanics written by Patrick Suppes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the academic years 1972-1973 and 1973-1974, an intensive sem inar on the foundations of quantum mechanics met at Stanford on a regular basis. The extensive exploration of ideas in the seminar led to the org~ization of a double issue of Synthese concerned with the foundations of quantum mechanics, especially with the role of logic and probability in quantum meChanics. About half of the articles in the volume grew out of this seminar. The remaining articles have been so licited explicitly from individuals who are actively working in the foun dations of quantum mechanics. Seventeen of the twenty-one articles appeared in Volume 29 of Syn these. Four additional articles and a bibliography on -the history and philosophy of quantum mechanics have been added to the present volume. In particular, the articles by Bub, Demopoulos, and Lande, as well as the second article by Zanotti and myself, appear for the first time in the present volume. In preparing the articles for publication I am much indebted to Mrs. Lillian O'Toole, Mrs. Dianne Kanerva, and Mrs. Marguerite Shaw, for their extensive assistance.

Download or read book Probability in Physics written by Yemima Ben-Menahem and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-25 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the role and meaning of probability in physical theory, in particular in two of the most successful theories of our age, quantum physics and statistical mechanics? Laws once conceived as universal and deterministic, such as Newton‘s laws of motion, or the second law of thermodynamics, are replaced in these theories by inherently probabilistic laws. This collection of essays by some of the world‘s foremost experts presents an in-depth analysis of the meaning of probability in contemporary physics. Among the questions addressed are: How are probabilities defined? Are they objective or subjective? What is their explanatory value? What are the differences between quantum and classical probabilities? The result is an informative and thought-provoking book for the scientifically inquisitive.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent results from high-energy scattering and theoretical developments of string theory require a change in our understanding of the basic structure of space-time. This book is about the advancement of ideas on the stochastic nature of space-time from the 1930s onward. In particular, the author promotes the concept of space as a set of hazy lumps, first introduced by Karl Menger, and constructs a novel framework for statistical behaviour at the microlevel. The various chapters address topics such as space-time fluctuation and random potential, non-local fields, and the origin of stochasticity. Implications in astro-particle physics and cosmology are also explored. Audience: This volume will be of interest to physicists, chemists and mathematicians involved in particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its inception in the famous 1936 paper by Birkhoff and von Neumann entitled “The logic of quantum mechanics quantum logic, i.e. the logical investigation of quantum mechanics, has undergone an enormous development. Various schools of thought and approaches have emerged and there are a variety of technical results. Quantum logic is a heterogeneous field of research ranging from investigations which may be termed logical in the traditional sense to studies focusing on structures which are on the border between algebra and logic. For the latter structures the term quantum structures is appropriate. The chapters of this Handbook, which are authored by the most eminent scholars in the field, constitute a comprehensive presentation of the main schools, approaches and results in the field of quantum logic and quantum structures. Much of the material presented is of recent origin representing the frontier of the subject. The present volume focuses on quantum structures. Among the structures studied extensively in this volume are, just to name a few, Hilbert lattices, D-posets, effect algebras MV algebras, partially ordered Abelian groups and those structures underlying quantum probability. - Written by eminent scholars in the field of logic - A comprehensive presentation of the theory, approaches and results in the field of quantum logic - Volume focuses on quantum structures
