Book excerpt: Matthew knows that he died twenty years ago. He has, after all, been bouncing around New York city ever since, causing mischief and having fun as a supernatural being. But recently some problems have been cropping up: not only is he hallucinating things in garbage cans, but his mentor doesn't think he's working up to his full potential, his best friend can't offer any solace but drunken confusion, and his wife is dying in Central Park. See, the past twenty years haven't meant a thing because now it's time for Matthew to make his second choice and become a tester of humanity. And that's all before the zombies show up. Come explore the world of Matthew and Epp and see what a samurai from Feudal Japan has to do with the course of modern physics, what a two-thousand year old Roman slave has to do with the summit of Mount Everest, and what a dead man from Brooklyn has to do with the fate of the world.

Book Exact Algorithms for Constraint Satisfaction Problems

Download or read book Exact Algorithms for Constraint Satisfaction Problems written by Robin Alexander Moser and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2013 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Boolean satisfiability problem (SAT) and its generalization to variables of higher arities - constraint satisfaction problems (CSP) - can arguably be called the most "natural" of all NP-complete problems. The present work is concerned with their algorithmic treatment. It consists of two parts. The first part investigates CSPs for which satisfiability follows from the famous Lovasz Local Lemma. Since its discovery in 1975 by Paul Erdos and Laszlo Lovasz, it has been known that CSPs without dense spots of interdependent constraints always admit a satisfying assignment. However, an iterative procedure to discover such an assignment was not available. We refine earlier attempts at making the Local Lemma algorithmic and present a polynomial time algorithm which is able to make almost all known applications constructive. In the second part, we leave behind the class of polynomial time tractable problems and instead investigate the randomized exponential time algorithm devised and analyzed by Uwe Schoning in 1999, which solves arbitrary clause satisfaction problems. Besides some new interesting perspectives on the algorithm, the main contribution of this part consists of a refinement of earlier approaches at derandomizing Schoning's algorithm. We present a deterministic variant which losslessly reaches the performance of the randomized original.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “An opinionated people, a shamefully naked church, an arrogant prideful people, wretched and despicable in behavior and above all, a spiritually blind church”. Regrettably, this is how Revelation chapter 3 describes the seventh church, Laodicea. This book is a highly recommended exegetical commentary on the seventh named church spoken about in the book of Revelation. It identifies many of the parallels between the historical church and the church today. The book focuses primarily on the apparent blindness of some facets of the church that can be evidently confirmed in the interpretation of end-time prophecy. With earnest prayer and fasting, Bishop John Ingraham has devoted himself to a meticulous study of eschatological events for over twenty years. Primarily he believes, interpretation of prophecy is by divine revelation from the Spirit of God and by proper exegetical analysis of scripture. Let Laodicea now see examines several popular teachings on end-time events in the light of scripture. I pray that after this book would have been read, eyes will have been anointed with the eye salve of truth’ the word of God, and Laodicea will now see!

Book Slaves of Satan

Download or read book Slaves of Satan written by Patrick Ryan Bell and published by TrineDay. This book was released on 2024-05-02 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Slaves of Satan is an extraordinary book that looks at the darkest corners of the human and diabolical mind and answers the question of why. Why do human beings commit some of the most horrific, appalling, and unspeakable acts known to man. What is it that drives these evil people; serial killers, cult leaders, occultists, and dictators to leave a trail of murder, violence, sexual depravity, and total unmitigated destruction in their wake. Author Patrick Bell through years of extensive research has done a deep dive into one of religions most controversial and terrifying subjects, diabolical possession, and the most serious and horrifying form of it known as Perfect Possession. When a human being has given themselves, their intellect, mind, will and body, their very souls over completely to the source of all evil, Lucifer. The author examines the theology and church teaching behind perfect possession, the three types of it, who it occurs to and why and then examines people from history (Slaves of Satan) who were perfectly possessed including serial killers, dictators, the international occult elite and the diabolical deeds and destruction they have perpetrated, led on by their master the devil, upon the human race.

Book Baseball Between the Numbers

Download or read book Baseball Between the Numbers written by Jonah Keri and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2007-02-27 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the numbers-obsessed sport of baseball, statistics don't merely record what players, managers, and owners have done. Properly understood, they can tell us how the teams we root for could employ better strategies, put more effective players on the field, and win more games. The revolution in baseball statistics that began in the 1970s is a controversial subject that professionals and fans alike argue over without end. Despite this fundamental change in the way we watch and understand the sport, no one has written the book that reveals, across every area of strategy and management, how the best practitioners of statistical analysis in baseball-people like Bill James, Billy Beane, and Theo Epstein-think about numbers and the game. Baseball Between the Numbers is that book. In separate chapters covering every aspect of the game, from hitting, pitching, and fielding to roster construction and the scouting and drafting of players, the experts at Baseball Prospectus examine the subtle, hidden aspects of the game, bring them out into the open, and show us how our favorite teams could win more games. This is a book that every fan, every follower of sports radio, every fantasy player, every coach, and every player, at every level, can learn from and enjoy.

Book Extraordinary Entrepreneurship

Download or read book Extraordinary Entrepreneurship written by Stephen C. Harper and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-12-13 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 21st Century brings all new rules. Entrepreneurs are challenging conventional wisdom and thinking outside the box. One of the first challenges involves challenging the assumption that a business has to be big to be successful. While most of the 20th century heralded big businesses, it is clear that businesses no longer have to be big to do big business. Now it is possible for a handful of people to operate a global business from virtually any place on the planet. Today, the keyboard has overtaken the boardroom. Financial markets, alliances, and joint ventures have eliminated the need for entrepreneurs to put up substantial capital investments. Today's businesses are driven by ideas, innovation, and execution. This book will show entrepreneurs and business leaders will provide CEOs and entrepreneurs with the tools that they will need to become leaders in their market.

Book Inquiry Under Bounds

  • Author : David Thorstad
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press

  • Pages : 240 pages

Download or read book Inquiry Under Bounds written by David Thorstad and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-06-27 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access title available under the terms of a [CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 International] licence. It is free to read on the Oxford Academic platform and offered as a free PDF download from OUP and selected open access locations. Herbert Simon held that the fundamental turn in the study of bounded rationality is the turn from substantive to procedural rationality. Theories of substantive rationality begin with normative questions about attitudes: what should we prefer, intend, or believe? By contrast, theories of procedural rationality begin with normative questions about processes of inquiry: how should we determine what to prefer, intend, or believe? If Simon was right, then the central task for theories of bounded rationality is to develop an account of rational inquiry for bounded agents. We need, that is, a theory of inquiry under bounds. Inquiry Under Bounds takes as its starting point a five-point bounded rationality program inspired by recent work in cognitive science. To elaborate on and defend that program, Thorstad argues we need an account of rational inquiry for bounded agents. Inquiry under bounds develops an account of rational inquiry for bounded agents: the reason-responsiveness consequentialist view. I use this account to clarify and defend key insights from the bounded tradition as well as to shed light on recent controversies in the epistemology of inquiry.
