Book Probabilistic Heat Transfer Problems in Thermal Protection Systems

Download or read book Probabilistic Heat Transfer Problems in Thermal Protection Systems written by Kun Zhang and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal protecti.on system (TPS) is one of the most important subsystems of hypersonic vehicles which are subjected to severe aerodynamic heating. The reliability and structural integrity of TPS are crucial to the structural safety and integrity of hypersonic aircrafts. During the design and service stages of the TPS, there are numerous inevitable uncertainties in aerothermal environment, material properties, manufacture and assembly errors, analysis modeling errors, et cetera, which have great impact on the reliability assessment of the TPS. In this chapter, the probabilistic heat transfer for TPS is presented to achieve light-weight TPS with high reliability. The uncertainties and their modeling and sampling methods are introduced at first. Then the finite element model and the precise integration method for transient probabilistic heat transfer of TPS are given. Based on the theoretical and numerical methods, the probabilistic design and reliability assessment procedure for TPS are finally formed. A typical multilayer ceramic composite material TPS is used as example to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This book was released on 1996-01-22 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The key to opening the use of space to private enterprise and to broader public uses lies in reducing the cost of the transportation to space. More routine, affordable access to space will entail aircraft-like quick turnaround and reliable operations. Currently, the space Shuttle is the only reusable launch vehicle, and even parts of it are expendable while other parts require frequent and extensive refurbishment. NASA's highest priority new activity, the Reusable Launch Vehicle program, is directed toward developing technologies to enable a new generation of space launchers, perhaps but not necessarily with single stage to orbit capability. This book assesses whether the technology development, test and analysis programs in propulsion and materials-related technologies are properly constituted to provide the information required to support a December 1996 decision to build the X-33, a technology demonstrator vehicle; and suggest, as appropriate, necessary changes in these programs to ensure that they will support vehicle feasibility goals.

Book Probability Based High Temperature Engineering

Download or read book Probability Based High Temperature Engineering written by Leo Razdolsky and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-18 with total page 669 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume on structural fire resistance is for aerospace, structural, and fire prevention engineers; architects, and educators. It bridges the gap between prescriptive- and performance-based methods and simplifies very complex and comprehensive computer analyses to the point that the structural fire resistance and high temperature creep deformations will have a simple, approximate analytical expression that can be used in structural analysis and design. The book emphasizes methods of the theory of engineering creep (stress-strain diagrams) and mathematical operations quite distinct from those of solid mechanics absent high-temperature creep deformations, in particular the classical theory of elasticity and structural engineering. Dr. Razdolsky’s previous books focused on methods of computing the ultimate structural design load to the different fire scenarios. The current work is devoted to the computing of the estimated ultimate resistance of the structure taking into account the effect of high temperature creep deformations. An essential resource for aerospace structural engineers who wish to improve their understanding of structure exposed to flare up temperatures and severe fires, the book also serves as a textbook for introductory courses in fire safety in civil or structural engineering programs, vital reading for the PhD students in aerospace fire protection and structural engineering, and a case study of a number of high-profile fires (the World Trade Center, Broadgate Phase 8, One Meridian Plaza; Mandarin Towers). Probability Based High Temperature Engineering: Creep and Structural Fire Resistance successfully bridges the information gap between aerospace, structural, and engineers; building inspectors, architects, and code officials.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manned Spacecraft Design Principles presents readers with a brief, to-the-point primer that includes a detailed introduction to the information required at the preliminary design stage of a manned space transportation system. In the process of developing the preliminary design, the book covers content not often discussed in a standard aerospace curriculum, including atmospheric entry dynamics, space launch dynamics, hypersonic flow fields, hypersonic heat transfer, and skin friction, along with the economic aspects of space flight. Key concepts relating to human factors and crew support systems are also included, providing users with a comprehensive guide on how to make informed choices from an array of competing options. The text can be used in conjunction with Pasquale Sforza's, Commercial Aircraft Design Principles to form a complete course in Aircraft/Spacecraft Design. Presents a brief, to-the-point primer that includes a detailed introduction to the information required at the preliminary design stage of a manned space transportation system Involves the reader in the preliminary design of a modern manned spacecraft and associated launch vehicle Includes key concepts relating to human factors and crew support systems Contains standard, empirical, and classical methods in support of the design process Culminates in the preparation of a professional quality design report

Book One dimensional Numerical Analysis of the Transient Response of Thermal Protection Systems

Download or read book One dimensional Numerical Analysis of the Transient Response of Thermal Protection Systems written by Robert T. Swann and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differential equations governing the transient response of thermal protection systems to a hyperthermal environment are presented. These equations are expanded into finite-difference equations which are suitable for numerical solution. The equations provide for three layers of different materials, the first two of which may have moving boundaries. Concentrated heat sinks, such as metallic structures, may be located at the back surfaces of the second or third layers or of both layers. The analysis was developed primarily for charring ablators but is also applicable to impregnated ceramic, subliming, and heat-sink thermal protection systems. The principal difficulty encountered in numerical analysis of charring ablators is the extensive computer time required to obtain solutions. Provision is made in the numerical equations to introduce options which reduce computer time. The errors resulting from these options under various conditions are discussed. Good agreement is obtained between numerical results and exact solutions.
